Speculations Forum Rules

The Speculations forum is provided for those who like to hypothesize new ideas in science. To enrich our discussions above the level of Wild Ass Guesswork (WAG) and give as much meaning as possible to such speculations, we do have some special rules to follow:

  1. Speculations must be backed up by evidence or some sort of proof. If your speculation is untestable, or you don't give us evidence (or a prediction that is testable), your thread will be moved to the Trash Can. If you expect any scientific input, you need to provide a case that science can measure.
  2. Be civil. As wrong as someone might be, there is no reason to insult them, and there's no reason to get angry if someone points out the flaws in your theory, either.
  3. Keep it in the Speculations forum. Don't try to use your pet theory to answer questions in the mainstream science forums, and don't hijack other threads to advertise your new theory.

The movement of a thread into (or out of) Speculations is ultimately at the discretion of moderators, and will be determined on a case by case basis.

  1. I have been watching this Mass bird death on the news and it has hit many headlines. So far from what ive read it has happend in ark, 100,000 drum die in the ark river and more birds in louisanna and now sweeden. I have been trying to piece together an answer but everytime i seem to be on somthing it falls apart. Just wondering if anybody has heard of this and if so, any rational thoughts or reasons as to why this is happening? And also for that matter if it was just focused on because it's the first thing to really happen in 2011. And the only explanation given so far is fire work displays, but if thats the case wouldnt their be more of this every holiday regarding firew…

As per article http://news.discovery.com/space/earth-like-planet-life.html If this has been discoverd then why would we presume any further that life does not exist off our planet? And to the same accord is it feisable to inhabit such planet someday?

What's an atoms nucleous made of ? I'm not asking what's in there, but what are the "walls" made of? It must be extrememy strong to contain all that explosive power. Is this shell some kind of dimensional barrier of some kind ? Some kind of quantum force field? The surface tension between the quantum world and the real world? Does anybody know?

  4. Could an indestructible function be able to transform every " known" constant to a double precession? And could the h constant hold more discrete values of energy than we know of? The following below suggest this may be possible. Below is a "rare" finding of mine, I am very open to any comments at this point thus far. Thanks To All! c squared = 299.792.458 0.000370114 / 299.792.458 = 0.000001234 e = 2.718 0.000003355 / 2.718 = 0.000001234 Golden Ration = 1.6180 0.000001997 / 1.6180 = 0.000001234 Pi Ratio = 3.141592653 0.000003878 / 3.141592653 = 0.000001234

Firstly I don't subscribe to the thinking that we will be experiencing Armageddon conditions in 2012 but in saying that. I do think it would be remiss to not allow for some serious tectonic activity because when the precession of the equinoxes occurs and the change and shift in motion and direction of the wobble of the earth that twisting motion must be impacting the mantle. It would have to be having an impact on that. Where will be most affected is the curious bit in my view.

Doesn't it seem logical that electrons can't fall into the nucleus because doing so would cancel out their electrostatic charge and that would violate some conservation law? I know people hate the Bohr model and thus presumably every detail of it, but it makes sense that if an electron was orbiting the nucleus, it would accelerate the closer it came to that nucleus. This acceleration would result in greater momentum, which would function as more repellant force between electrons of different molecules when they collide. If the electron would continue to accelerating into the nucleus, it would build up momentum that couldn't be expressed as volume anymore, so it would h…

  7. It isn't. In a double slit experiment, the moving particle has an associated dark matter displacement wave. The particle travels a single path and enters and exits a single slit. It is the associated dark matter displacement wave which enters and exits both slits. The associated dark matter displacement wave creates wave interference upon exiting the slits. As the particle exits a single slit, it is this wave interference which alters the direction the particle travels. Detecting the particle causes there to be a loss of coherence of the associated dark matter displacement wave, there is no wave interference, and the direction the particle travels is not altered.

This seems like more of a QP question than an issue for speculations, but since the issue appears to be somewhat mysterious as it emerges in other threads, I thought it might deserve its own speculations thread. My sense is that wave-quantization has something to do with the internal dynamics of force-fields. Like, if you would try to subdivide them in increments between their natural quanta that they would resist because of internal cohesion-force, like surface tension causes water to divide into rain drops. I would also guess that this quantizing force also influences how the electrons can interact with the nucleus, i.e. because there is an energy threshold that has …

  9. Am I correct in saying that this theory says that the universe is splitting into all the possible outcomes the universe can create? From wikipedia: "According to the MWI, each of these possible observations corresponds to a different universe. Suppose a die is thrown that contains 6 sides and that the result corresponds to a quantum mechanics observable. All 6 possible ways the die can fall correspond to 6 different universes." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiverse) If this is true, would that not mean that each person's consciousness / soul / life would be seperated into it's own universe, where everyone else is just a dummy with "no soul" if you like. Th…

and he figures out human cognition. And then realizes that physics hasn't solved the universe precisely because of how human minds works. So he solves it. Stunned. How would you feel? I cook up this theory that matches all known data . . .but I do it in outer space. I'm working out how the universe has to drive itself, why you would "think" there was dark energy, how you could possibly explain light, and what the heck gravity is. Along the way *time* falls into place. Time. I get a rock solid theory that connects all those things together . . . but have no equation. I go to a physics forum and get kicked off for being a crackpot. I find another for…

Before entering into the argument proper, just a few words to specify two points. (1) we shall be dealing with mass-energy equivalence clearly formulated by the equation in question which came to be known as «the most famous equation» not because of the aforesaid equivalence, but because of its association to nuclear fission and its property of quantifying the missing mass into the released energy during fission. (2) although the equation was tested for energy release from nuclear reaction in 1933, and definitely associated to nuclear fission and rendered famous after the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, from the outright start Einstein himself in his 19…

Imagine a being who's sensory system is tied directly to its memory. Hardwired. All five senses sequentially writing data. Photographically. Add to this being a brain that evolved for millions of years under evolutionary pressure to logically extrapolate the sensory input as rapidily and as far into the future as possible. A necessity to outwit the other beings in its environment. That are under the same evolutionary pressure. To out logically extrapolate them. Imagine a being at the peak of this evolutionary battle.

Perhaps the momentum of proton vibration travels through the velocity time dialation (existing between the nucleous of the atom and the elctron) as a whipping motion back and forth on it's three dimensional paths. Perhaps it even acts like a tunnel that allows fundamentle electic charge to travel in a quantum fashion to the edge. If the photon is, as I suspect, a momentum wave caused by the dance of a couple of quarks, then we will find the gravatron riding the crest of the wave, in a similar fasion to the electron riding the crest of the present time waves, and the photon riding the crest of distance past. I believe that distance is created by the gravity snaping …

I'm curious as to where my own beliefs and expectations are relative to my "peers". This poll is aimed mainly at fellow speculators for which I assume the following are true: - The topic you're speculating on is not related to your main area of work/study (unless working independently full-time on your theories). - You're more interested in developing a new idea on a topic than understanding all existing knowledge on the topic. Thanks for your input!

  19. Proposal; Human have two cognitive modes. From when you are born until you develop emotions you are in a logical cognitive mode. As you develop the ability to manipulate symbols you are in an "in between" mode with logic and symbolic settling which is in control. "normal" is when symbolic mode developes early in childhood. As you age and "learn" symbols you gain enough skill to settle fully into the symbolic mode. These are evolutionary logical modes. The homo sapien evolutionary step was to add this "backwards error sorting" to their memories. This prioritizes some memories over others. With an ability to prioritize memory (WATSON like) we gained the ab…

Preamble: This piece comes with a tenured understanding and perspective that not every PHD has. One would have to understand the maturing phase of relativistic thinking. Only someone who is old enough to understand for example where both the eastern school of thought arrives, and western schools of thought collides, and how they can be woven together and made to work. Someone like that would be my intended readers. One of the things that I like to get people to understand about the reality is that you have a certain level of control within that reality. I will try to go ahead and explain how certain leaps of understanding are made to get you to these basic laws.…

I am not a scientist, but I have a theory about a couple of different things when it comes to the origin of our universe. My ideas seems to be fairly original, yet simple. I believe that the Sun gave birth to all of the planets, one by one. That the sun spits out a large ball of plasma every 80 billion years or so resulting in a new planet. Each planet is an offspring of the sun on an outward journey away from it. A ball of molten plasma exploding out into space, spinning and slowly cooling until the outer crust forms. Basically the planets are a timeline of what happens to a ball of plasma shot out of the sun. Ball of plasma-cools-crusts over, spins from its source,…

! Moderator Note Split from http://www.scienceforums.net/topic/54440-how-to-create-energy/ A very interesting topic. According to physical science, energy must be eternal, it must have always existed and will always exist. The basic form of energy is a photon, an electro-magnetic radiation travelling at the speed of light; it is a quantum particle with a quantity of energy that is a Plank constant. All physical matter and different forms of energies are constituted by quantum particles. The fact that energy in its basic form, is eternal is also show by Einstein relativity theory which holds for the principle of "time dilation" which holds that for any object trav…

  24. Hi: What would happen to my body if it were subjected to genetically-engineering to focus on cellular maintenance as opposed to cellular reproduction/growth? In this theoretical situation, none of the cells of my body die unless exposed to physical injury from external sources -- such as cuts, burns, toxins. However, none of these cells reproduce or grow either. Also, in this possible-but-unlikely scenario, no part of my body experiences any inflammatory response to any circumstance. From the molecular to the cellular to the systemic level there is never any inflammation to any extent no matter how irritated any cell/tissue is. To make matters more interes…

Say you were to attempt to travel between multiple universes. Perhaps by traveling back in, and subsequently altering time, thereby causing you to exist in a universe parallel to your origin (as is stated in one theory). Now, it is generally accepted as a law that matter cannot be created or destroyed. Therefore, the total amount of matter in the universe must be a constant. But if you were to travel between multiverses, you would be reducing the amount of matter in your origin universe and increasing it in your destination universe. My question is, how would this be possible? Does the law of conservation consider all possibly existing universes, therefore negating any …
