When you delete a post/thread, could you PM the person that wrote the post/thread to tell them which post/thread and why it was deleted?

How about it? That way users can post links to ebay auctions and stuff. Although I would recommend a minimum post count before you can post there.

I was told that string theory was not to be used to explain anything on SFN. Why is that?

I was just thinking, as I posted my last thread, why isnt there an optics section under Physics. It could be used for discussing...hmmm...optics, and such. lol

As I poked around another forum, I noticed something. On that forum, many users get titles from the admin, things like "Top Poster 2003" or "Top Spammer 2003" or even "Top Waffler". I thought maybe it would be nice to spice things up a bit around here by giving out more of them, and not just to bad people. You could give out "Top Psuedoscientist" titles, or perhaps "Mr. Know-It-All". Or, if a user hit a certain amount of posts, he could get a title. A few suggested titles: 1. If you take a look at the member list, you'll notice that out of just over 2000 members, 642 of them have not posted at all, and quite a few haven't logged on since they registered. Then there are loads more with less than 5 posts. It probably is annoying when you register, to have register form tell you that your name is already in use by someone who never posted. So I propose this: Members that have not logged in for six months (or some other length of time), and have 5 (or some other number) or less posts, should be deleted. The terms might be changed, you could warn them, but I think it would help let new members have a name they wanted, not some odd thing as a la…

Perhaps you could add a section of the forum that could be for those non-english speaking among us. You could advertise it on the front page so they wouldn't be turned away by all the English. And if you are wondering how to moderate it, you might just recruit multi-lingual members to moderate it. I think this is a great way to have more members and let more people use this site, 'specially since it's better than the other ones I've seen.

could we have a Plant Physiology subsection in Biology, it would be better than just putting it under general bio all the time, it is after all 50% of all bio, Animal being the other 50% it seems a bit too important a catagory not to be present, or at least absent from the description of what goes into what Forum. I remember a while back faf made a thread about how we broke the one day record for posts (300 and something). It was in the announcements where I can't post though so I created a new thread. How many posts are we getting these days? Have we broken the record by any chance?

I just looked at sciforums.com, to see the difference, and while they have over 9,000 members, they stink. Not a very good discussion around there, not well moderated, etc. etc. In other words, keep up the good work!!! (and, get more dedicated members!)

I am an Musicoholic. I would love to discuss certain aspects of music. such as composition , performance and interpretation. the subtelties of jazz and classical music. It would also be a good place to open your own mind and others mind to different genres. For instance I have quite got into DnB and UK garage lately. we could also talk about our fav pieces of music as well as share our playlists. and if this forum is ok with sharing music, we can put links up to good torrents.

Can team debates be made? or at least More than 2 persons debating on a challenge.. because there can occur things like the evolution debate, where for example evolution hypothesis can be supported by other arguments than the ones that cpt said in that case a third person would remark this perhaps. Although it can reach to be a chaos instead of a debate by the people debating. It would be nice to think about it.

It's an absolute must for a vB science or maths forum for Html to be turned on in order to make equations more readable.

The page and contents load quickly and that's all good but each page seems to continue loading something for several minutes after everything relevant appears to have loaded (this is on a T1 connection so it's not a connection speed issue). Not sure what it is but it's annoying and somewhat disconcerting (just what IS it loading in the background?) especially as there are adverts on display which can include all sorts of nasties.

I made a few posts earlier today from a computer other than I normally use. Now that I'm home the threads a posted on seem to be cut short, like they're missing the last few posts, occasionaly mine. Did anyone delete them or am I just going crazy?

Specially religious / pseudo-science ones. I just feel that lately too many low-intelligence pro-creationism bored antisemetical rude racists people join as members just to trash whoever they feel like that doesnt fit their notions. And no, I don't mean that all creationists are low intelligence, so all you creationists out there don't throw words into my mouth. We're not a religious site, nor are we political one. I love religion/science debates but I like them when they're used by LOGIC and REASON and when the sides actually CARE what the other thinks.
