I think that not only should there be just more experts in general, and not only of a wider variety, but with a much higher standard. I'm not doubting the knowledge of any specific individual, but as a passive observer in many topics, I think that there needs to be more of an effort to bring in more experts who have a Masters degree or higher in every field this site has, because so far I haven't seen an "astronomy" expert or a "psychology" expert, but also need to display a level of maturity such as that they never put in their personal opinion or emotions except in the philosophy, speculation or brain teaser, lounge and politics sections.

Hello, I've noticed that many old posts and topics of mine are gone. The ones before 2010 appear to be absent. Is Dave or any other admin working on this issue? So, I really think some code should be written in order to get that stuff back on this forum. For one, many of us have gone into talking about various scientists, articles, and other aspects of scientific enterprise. I am not sure how valuable much of the old data is. However, I do know that I have talked about various things, such as cryogenics in relation to biology, and looked for the information more than once for hours in order to present it and talk to people about it. I am really hoping this stu…

S the reputation seems to be some open ended interpretation that can be interpreted in any arbitrary way that someone wants, so what if instead there was a specific unit or meaning, and instead of just having it say "like a post", you have it say "it successfully answers your question". It can still be positive or negative because I suppose a comment may actually detract from the answer to the question in such a way that it creates a conflict outside of scientific argument. At least there would be some concise way to agree on what positive and negative means rather than just throwing around some arbitrary likes and dislikes. Just have some kind of concise unit that every…

Sometimes I know there was some topic I posted in but I don't remember where it was, I looked in my personal posts section in my profile but it's limited to a handful of recent posts. I think you should be able to view every post you've ever made or at least every post in the last week.

So, if I'm on the Who's Online page being a creepy stalker and I click "View New Content" it always defaults to the new users rather than new posts. Is there a way to fix this? It's rather annoying.

I can understand why the application of negative rep is limited but is it possible to set it so that it can be applied to more than one person a day as I wanted to dish one out to to two people today but couldn't? Is it possible to limit it to issuing to one recipient each at a time but only once in a day from you.

Hi, me again. I'd like to extend the time line of My content. It is restricted to one year and I have a hard time to remember where I posted what and under what name for more than that period. Can I do something to get my list of posts older than 1 year ? Thanks.

I really, really miss the old quote tags where you could just hit the balloon-button, that would inset the [ ] tags and then you could fill in the details yourself... i.e. attribute the quote to someone. Maybe I am missing it, but I don't see how to do that with this box thing that just appears... The old method was really nice when you wanted to quote multiple people, especially from multiple threads -- you could just copy and paste them into one reply and so long as the details in the

We have all been aware that the Forum has been upgraded. The container has changed, what about the content? By "content" I mean not the content of the dicussion boards, but the content of forum itself, its organization etc. Till now I have gathered this important feature from Hypervalent_iodine: Anything else new?

Can someone tell me how to link a word in a post to a url, it's not the same in this new software? When I click on "link" icon in the posting UI and then click "Link to anchor in text" and put the url in it says "no anchors available in document". How to create an anchor?

At the top right of the screen near our avatar and user name is a drop-down menu showing notifications... For example, when someone has quoted a post from us. When clicking the link underlying the word "quoted," it should bring the user to the actual post that was put forth in response to our own. Now, it just loads the most recent post in that thread. It seems that the part of the URL that identifies the specific post number is failing. It's no longer taking us to the post referenced. This worked properly until very recently. Can the functionality be restored (or is the issue of no longer loading the specific post specific to my account/profile somehow)?

I haven't really seen a reputation system on a forum before, but looking at various topics, what's the point? The marking of positive or negative is essentially just a purely emotion decision, not a rationally deduced one, in fact it's purpose is merely for an opinion, so I don't think it should have a place on a science site. Even if you have extreme religious fanatics, chances are they are that way because of a misconception or not because they are arrogant but because they've spent their whole life around religion. No offense, but I see even posts by staff members and I'm like "What? How was that 10 word most more helpful than my detailed and cited 2-3 paragraph post?"…

I was reading an article earlier about the use of "user" vs "customer", and how the former is more sterile while the latter humanizes the individual who is consuming a product or using a service. I think that's right, and I've talked about users of this site in some threads we've had on so-called censorship and also dealing with complaints about the speculations forum. And I should modify that — people who come to this site to follow a discussion are not users, they are customers. If we were to apply the adage that the customer is always right we should conclude that the staff, i.e. the people who run the site, need to bend over backwards to please the people who visit…

Ive started one thread on this site, in the astronomy and cosmology forum, that was moved to the "speculation" forum. At its base, I do not have a problem with a thread being moved (which is essentially a form of censorship but that's OK) if the subject steps into the realm of "hey I've got a new idea or concept and I want to bounce it around". But there is a difference between discussing a new idea that is based on accepted mainstream science vs a pseudoscientific, conspiracy theorist, tin foil on head, Mayan calendar, 2012, 7 headed Revalations beast, fountain of youth discovered thread. Anyone with an IQ of 100 can sniff out the lunatics. It becomes particularl…

Hello Folks! I'm newly back and want to say hello and that I sure missed some of you. I miss some lively and challanging threads with some people I have a lot of respect for. Thanks for being here folks! Now that I'm back I want to fresh and not make any mistakes and get a better understanding of the rules. I seemed to have posted things that I wasn't in the wave-particle duality thread. So I want to learn what to do in certain instances. Not only from moderators but mainly from other members who've run into similar situations and was able to resolve it to their satisfaction without getting a red moderator tip directed at them (I hate it when that happens). So I …
