A brand new member ( 0 post count ) misplaces his query about getting more heat from his outdoor fireplace, and his thread is shut down. Not moved from the Sandbox to the appropriate place, mind you, but 'closed to further replies'. Have we adopted a 'zero tolerance' approach since I was last on ?

Occasionally i get the message shown below. it doesnt last for long (about 5 mins) but this is not the first time this has happened. i think that this site is getting ever more popular and there is an increase in traffic. maybe a bandwidth upgrade is in order. obviously it costs money, but just something to monitor.

just a comment on the placement of your "banned/suspended users" thread most likely it's the first post people will see when visiting your site + it will give the impression of a repressive forum - it's up to you whether you want to give that impression also, as i've said elsewhere, the introduction thread is well hidden and should be given more prominence e.g. stickied in the "Announcements" part of the forum

When you look at the main forum index, all the forums are listed. When you look at the 2nd column, all the most recent posts in the subforums are listed. The #1 post on the right side is almost always the "banned/suspended users" thread. I agree that the announcements are on top... but can we please "hide" the banned/suspended users thread? Since there is a lot of banning going on (with all the spammers and trolls), or because few other announcements are made, this is almost always the most recent post. Therefore, it is visible at the top of the main forum index. But the fact that yet another troll was banned is not interesting - it should not receive any attentio…

I was curious if you are looking for a new forum banner? I've had a hobbisis "fling" with imaging and PS for quite sometime. If your bored of it or want it upgraded I wouldn't mind giving a shot at it, and I am sure other would like to particpate as well. Problem is people have the tendency to use something that sucks because people spent time making something for them. How does a user get banned permanently? Am I in that position? This is just a general question.

I'm a new member, and one of my first actions was to check the help pages to see what BBcode was allowed. I was particularly interested to see whether I could post in LaTeX. I did eventually find the answer in a post, but I think it should be mentioned in the Posting section of the Help pages. That's the natural place to look for the information.

I have CFU counts over 10 days. What is the best way to present colony forming units in a scientific paper? I don't think a table would be the best method. Maybe a bar graph? I have 10^-4, 10^-5, 10^-6, and 10^-7 plate counts. I have 20 different samples for each dilution. Please comment with some scientific papers or examples! Thank you

I was just wondering whether the powers that be thought "Biochemistry/Molecular Biology" would be a more appropriate name for the " Biochemistry/Genetic Engineering" forum?

I was reading a thread, and I thought to myself, "Hmm. This person did a biology experiment." I've done a few biology experiments myself, but I'm typically not the kind of person to share my experiments. However, I think it would be a nice addition to the board.
