I was just wondering about evolution. Specifically how animals over millions of years of adapting to their enviroment, their bodies change to suit their needs. Would you say that that long term physical change starts out in one lifetime of a creature fundimentaly through brain training? eg, A man who trains and works for years in a repetative job, like, welding panels or digging holes etc.

Hi, me again. I'd like to extend the time line of My content. It is restricted to one year and I have a hard time to remember where I posted what and under what name for more than that period. Can I do something to get my list of posts older than 1 year ? Thanks.

I figured this was the right place to post this so here goes: A little while back I posted an old A level coursework on Quantum theory I did that served as an elementary introduction to the subject. I'm starting to feel like I should now produce a piece of work that could serve as a more complete introduction, but this time to relativity. I have no alterior motive this time around, I am not currently required to do such a piece of work by my department at University, I just feel it may help me out in my own understanding of the subject if I can produce a piece of work with which to explain relativity as best as I can. Do you think this will be well received? I was th…

  6. Why can't people post ideas that could seem all like garbage to "smarter" people or community based on the fact they can't do the math to prove anything when i thought science was all about speculations, challenging ideas, theories, sharing an idea, helping others resolve someone's question that they don't know the answer to. something that sounds like garbage or impossible can somehow have truth in it look at many scientist that got laughed at and bam we use their science today. way back people thought we were the center of the universe or the earth was flat and the people that got laughed at saying the world is round and we are not the center of the universe. you may th…

There is no place in science for racism and discrimination? Racism defined as using the race concept, like others isms, a concept used with exactly the same definition as any phylogenetic category? I'd say there certainly is a place for racism in science. Perhaps due to the intentionally vague nature of the word you are trying to imply "racism" necessitates gas chambers and slavery, and then associating this with discussing human psychological differences, a cheap and dishonest but entirely common tactic. Sadly modern politics has devolved to the point where mindless sheep bleat "racist, racist" ad infinitum. It's sad that such mindless idiocy affects science too. Amazing…

When you sign in to the forum you're asked for your display name and your password. Obviously you have to be asked for your password but instead of having to provide your display name, it might be easier to be able to sign in with your email address.

Just an aside, and because I was curious how this might come about - the dictionary which auto-spell checks our posts doesn't recognize ornery (bad-tempered, stubborn) nor orneriness but does recognize orneriness's (which I am not sure is a word at all). EDIT OK - Now I have noticed that the spell checker is across all sites so it must be specific to me, or to chrome

I used to be in love with my SFN blog, but I think its time for a complete reset. I'm no longer interested in some of the things I once blogged about and somehow the comment section has exploded with spam (I had to disable notifications). I'm considering to get back into it though, and want to stay on the SFN platform. Is this doable?

I'm finding myself mildly irked by the abuse of the "status" feature to keep crankery on the forums' main page, i.e. in the "Recent Status Updates" section on the right side. Do these statuses violate posting rules 8 or 10?

Hovering the cursor over a front-page thread provides a textbox with the full thread title, except for this thread: Which is the most 'intelligent' animal, in your opinion? shortens to Which is the most http://www.scienceforums.net/topic/21595-which-is-the-most-intelligent-animal-in-your-opinion/page-10

We know when we make photo copy of a doc or use printer to print, the unique ID of the machine gets printed that is invisible to naked eye. So can we use similar technology in the screen shots or video taken by mobile phones? Now-a-days most of us have mobile phones and most of us use them in negative purposes. For ex: exam paper leaking, private moments spent with a gal etc. And then our wicked brain makes them viral. But if such technology could be implemented so that when a video is taken or a snap is taken then the source Mobile IMEI or mobile no would be automatically stamped and when sent to others that number too would also be passed. And hence the outcome …

I've noticed that no justification is ever given for decisions to move threads, especially to the pseudoscience and speculations forum. It would seem to me that this is an important detail in the decision, and that the addition of this to such posts would surely relieve most of the authoritarian, personally-threatening connotation that many misguided minds glean from the terse post, hopefully overall conveying less of a sense of intimidation and more of a sense of rationality versus bias.

Some kind of refference system, what with this being a science forum. typing [ sup][ url=ww.blah.com]1[/sup][/url] all the time is annoying, on the admittedly rare occasions when i do. I was thinking something simple like [ ref]ww.blah.com[/ref], being automatically superscripted, linked to the url, and replaced with 1, 2, whatever.

Try this: on the main page in the search box at the top, type (for example): 'neutrino photon' It comes back with the first page of 51 total topics back to the beginning of time. Now click on page 2... it has somehow broadened the search to give you 131 topics, but only for the last year?
