It's gone gold now. Are there plans to upgrade immediately or are we just going to wait until it goes through a few updates to iron things out? Frankly I don't know what front-end changes there are, so I'm indifferent.

I have just started a new thread. When choosing the thread name the computer offered the name of the previous thread I started in an automatic drop down box. What a pointless waste of computing power and resources. It could even encourage those who have been prohibited by a moderator from raising a subject again to break the rules an start another thread on the banned topic. I can't tell if this is part of the new site software or a W10 'Helpful' update. I also get a drop down list of every email address that has ever been used whenever I login to SF on this PC. What a security risk, not just to say that none of the entr…

Hope I haven't opened up a can of worms here but I did not see any suggestions for an image uploader, so I thought I would make one. I know that there are online places where one can archive upto 10MB of images for posting on the IN but how about an uploader for ones PC docs. and settings? It would be nice to have so to futher define a subject and highlight certain points. Being an amateur Microscopist, Protozoologist and Stream Biologist, among other interests, it would be a help but then again how many like minded individuals are in the membership of this site to make it worthwhile?

On the locked Forum Rules forum http://www.scienceforums.net/topic/49483-moderators%3B-admins%3B-etc/ the maths expert Bignose states: Popper's main point is one of falsifiability. Without the ability to falsify an idea, the idea is NOT science. It is story telling. This is not strictly correct, Popper clearly states that non-perturbative theories cannot be falsified; Popper defines ‘non-perturbative' as having no margin of error. Only perturbative theories (i.e.with a mathematical margin of error) can be falsified.

Hi. Sometimes I see a way to grade the topic -or question- (about the quality/interest of the initial post, not the responses) somewhere on the screen. Some times does not show. Where and how works ?

Whut? I remember in the original FAQ linkage was ruled out unless a big ol' wad of cash was offered. It's even got the superannoying jiggly 'You've won a prize' banner on rotation.

I think a section for science media would be a good idea. I've posted a few really cool things to look at and people tend to react positively.

This could be at the Lounge?, move anywhere if deserved. Deutsche Welle television announced a report on moderators for social sites in the near days ; if anyone has any interest. Cannot tell the title of the program in English as I saw the announcement in another language, but should be easily searchable. Choice of languages. Wait. Found something in English : ----> https://www.dw.com/en/trailer-the-cleaners/av-53444125

I was reading an article earlier about the use of "user" vs "customer", and how the former is more sterile while the latter humanizes the individual who is consuming a product or using a service. I think that's right, and I've talked about users of this site in some threads we've had on so-called censorship and also dealing with complaints about the speculations forum. And I should modify that — people who come to this site to follow a discussion are not users, they are customers. If we were to apply the adage that the customer is always right we should conclude that the staff, i.e. the people who run the site, need to bend over backwards to please the people who visit…

I've run into a problem recently where I go to edit a post, and when I switch editing modes and back, the quote tags moved. i.e. text that was originally quoted is no longer included in the "quoted" section. Also, all of the markup tags appear (background, size, color, etc.) in the text body. It's a mess.

on the home page, in the sidebar on the left, two links -- 'forums' and 'index' -- both point to the same place.

When you click "sciences", the entire list of sciences shows up. There is something inconsistent there: Let's take chemistry as an example. We have 4 subforums: 1. Chemistry 2. Inorganic Chemistry 3. Organic Chemistry 4. Applied Chemistry In the "sciences" list, they all seem equal. However, when you click "Chemistry", it turns out that the other 3 chemistry forums are sub-forums of the main chemistry forum. This is supported by the main index page. The fact that sciences and the main index treat the "chemistry" forum different seems inconsistent to me. The inconsistency however is supported by the "new posts" (which are mentioned in slightly darker blue …

I am surprised there isn't a place here to talk sports. There are forums for religion, politics, speculations, general philosophy, and a lounge but no sports? Would it be oppropriate to start sports related discussions in the lounge?

When I try to make a new post, the image button (to insert an image in the post) is missing. I typed the command manually, and it just came up as a link. When I try to repond to posts, the button is there, but when I click, it just loads, and the insert text window never pops up. Is anyone else experiancing this problem, or is it just me?

Hello, I just joined SFN and I think it is great!. I wanted to ask if it is cool to include the URL to my blog "Science Lifestyle Blog" in my signature? On my blog, I write mini-essays on various science topics. It would be great to discuss some of the topics here on SFN, but I don't want to offend anyone if I post a link to a particular essay, so we could discuss it here. For example, the most recent essay is regarding Richard Feynman. It could be great to discuss Feynman here on SFN. Anyway, I just wanted to make sure I know the rules before I do anything. Thanks!!

It was suggested a while back by someone that it would be very nice if we could see how our post count is divided into each forum. For example it would say: "You have X posts in Physics, Y in Chemistry and Z in biology" Is this feature or something similar possible to implement?
