Will the DNA from a child born of incest, between two brothers, match with the DNA of the grandfather? Will it show that the grandfather might be the father of the child if a paternity test is done? I'm doing research for a novel. Someone please explain this to me. Thank you!

Hello everyone. I've been trying to find an answer to this, but there's very little data. Can someone help me with what are the chances of having autistic children if I marry autisic woman? Unfortunately I'm having some asperger traits also, which I've read contributes to the chance. Her parents are both well educated and functional, but she's having significant problems, barely got a university diploma and a simple library job is quite stressful to her.

On another form we had a "god fearing" member who claimed he was "dumb" In the opinion of many on that forum, including myself, he was actually out to gain some sympathy after being "put down"many times in scientific debate. This sparked my interest soley because when I was a kid, I actually had a cousin who was born profoundly deaf, and couldn't really talk either. Obviously her and others born profoundly deaf, cannot hear sound to "learn"how to talk. So in effect she was not really "mute". Another reason why this person from another forum claims were doubted. I mean it simply isn't acceptable to call a person who cannot talk as "dumb" and insulting to boot. …

Hello, I am interested in the feasibility of the hybrid sensory organ for continuous multi-parameter blood analysis concept. Concept is based on genetically engineered cells each dedicated to the detection of specific analyte. Such cells would be than immobilized on sensory chip for signal transduction. And the whole device would be than implanted inside human body. I have described reasons why I want to build such device and covered the concept in larger detail in my blog post http://bit.ly/2MlOkVC If you are interested I would like to get a feedback from you (negative or positive) and discuss the technical aspects of such concept wi…

Hi, I know that different people have different resting metabolic rate. What I wonder is why a big bodybuilder need more glucose than a skinny guy if they perform the same work while resting. I would understand that the bodybuilder would need more glucose if he is excercising because he has bigger muscle that consumes it, but if they both are resting, why doesn't they need the same amount? And why does the bodybuilder's muscle burn more when he rest?

Hello everyone, could you please help me with the following excercise? A women is a carrier of a mutation for a very rare disease (for instance, an inborn, recessive glycosylation disorder). Her partner is her second cousin (see family tree). What is the risk that the child has this disease ? 1. 1 in 2. 2. 1 in 4. 3. 1 in 16. 4. 1 in 64. 5. 1 in 256. Thank you.

I am an amatuer geneticist trying to better understand my own DNA. Can someone help me understand gene frequency? For example. I have a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) that is listed as having a frequency of 48.7 Does this mean that 48.7% of people have this SNP? Thanks!

Can we change things like our species(Example a cat to dog) , our appearance , personality , gender , age etc after we've completed our biological development ? And even if we do manage to edit every cell in the body or every gene in an adult ( for complex traits of course) Would changing the DNA even have a major effect and give us the desirable traits we want ? Will it ever be possible ? Using nanotechnology combined with genetic engineering ?

Hey, so I'm writing a piece on the convergent and parallel evolution of genes involved in domestication but I'm a little confused. A lot of the literature talks about certain genes that are involved in domestication appearing 'more often than by chance' in orthologous (the same) genetic loci of multiple crops (i.e. trait A is controlled by gene A in crop 1. The same trait A has evolved convergently by a gene in crop 2 that is on the same part of the chromosome of crop 2 as gene A was on crop 1). Essentially, phenotypic convergence is controlled through genotypic convergence. However, I feel like I'm missing the significance of this point. Surely, it shouldn't b…

Does anyone know how long can I expect my cells (example HeLa) to survive in a plate where I took off the culture medium (after they proliferated)? Do they quick suffer from desiccation? Thanks

Hello, I am dating someone who was born to a consanguineous couple (his father married his niece). I am completely unrelated to him. If we get married, will our children have elevated risks for any birth defects because of his parents' consanguinity? Also, note that he had a younger brother who passed away. He had a mental disease since birth.

Hello! I'm trying to probe microsatellites (SSRs) in a mantid (T. sinensis) using two biotinylated oligo sequences [(CA)10 and (GA)10]. I know the concentration the probes need to be, but I don't know the volume. I've looked through numerous papers and can't find anyone who's reported the volume used. I'm going to digest 1ug of genomic DNA with RsaI, hybridize the probes, then pull them out with streptavidin magnetic beads. There's about 5700 Mbp in a diploid cell if that helps. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! Mike

Ok so this will be somewhat base , but go easy on my lack of complete knowledge as I'm a undergrad in mathematics and biochem and some genetic study is on some higher 300 and above level , waiting to learn more . my university does longevity genetic research since it was approved by the government recently . We also cater some interesting bacteria and algae modifications that allow ethanol products as a metabolic product . so it's a decent university for molecular biology studies . Ok to the point , Ray kurzweil makes some comments as to the computational powers of supercomputers In the near future 2023 or around this date computational powers are equivalent to …

Apparently there's been an article recently falsely claiming research has shown intelligence is exclusively or mainly inherited from the mother, which got me wondering, is there any evidence either parent contributes more to a child's intelligence?

Let's say we have a male with infertility issues. Him and his wife get a Chromosomal Analysis that comes back with his wife being fine, but him having: "balanced reciprocal translocation between chromosomes one and ten" 46,XY,t(1;10)(q21;q25.2) And the embryos from their first IVF round have the following abnormalities: 45,XY,dup(1)(q23q44),del(10)(q26),-22 46,XY,del(1)(q23),dup(10)(q26q26) Why would the embryos have duplications and deletions on the same chromosome but at different locations than the abnormalities in the potential father?

Hi folks.....I have this moron I somehow ended up arguing with on another forum who made the following claim "Persons of Color are more genetically disposed to sanction on the side of self preservation. Ergo, mass shootings where escape is not really important isn't appealing to most of them." Now obviously this is bullshit but the guy just will not let it go .........if there is anyone active on this forum who is credentialed and can provide me some documentation or a study that would prove his premise false I would appreciate it. I assumed that base instincts like Self Preservation were developed well before there were any separate races and even at tha…
