Does anyone know of software (or ideally) maybe a spreadsheet that would allow me to model the generation of electricity in a simple rule of thumb manner for MHD systems? Ideally I'd like to have some rough calculations I can just swap - say the main fluid from a plasma to mercury and see the difference or mercury to salt water etc? also be able to change other factors. Whilst I have a number of PDF files here explaining all the factors I don't have the math background to understand all the elements in detail. What I'm looking for is a means of demonstrating the simple generation of current by fluid flow through a tube and how that varies dependent upon the fluid …

If I were to argue that the theory of everything is consciousness, am I arguing psychologism, thus arguing against physicalism? When I keep reducing the parts to the whole, I see consciousness being the thing that explains "why" things are what they are. "Gravity works that way because that is how I observe it to be." Consciousness is a necessary condition for gravity to exist: Thus, at least one being has to be conscious to recognize gravity's existence. I've been thinking about this a lot, and a lot of signs point toward solipsism for some reason. At least one person has to be conscious for gravity to exist, but if a someone does not exist, that someone cannot say g…

Student: - I cannot believe in any way that hours later, your efforts will be concluded in time for the trip. That is really unique masterpiece. Scientist: - Exactly. I see you've been working on this project for years. However, because of the secrecy of it, I was deprived of much assistance. However, I do it. - Even though I was the only person who had the details of your work, but still theoretically I cannot understand it. I do not work on your time machine how it works ... 11. Hello, I'm starting to study the quark model and I was trying to understand the patterns of the octet and decimet of baryons (when plotting the hypercharge and 3-component of isospin). In the octet of 1/2+ baryons we may find the particles Sigma^0 and Lambda^0, as while looking at the decimet of 3/2+ baryons we find Sigma*^0, the three of them as a result of coupling the u, d and s quark. These three particles have (T: isospin, j: spin): Lambda^0 -> T = 0, j = 1/2 Sigma^0 - > T = 1, j = 1/2 Sigma*^0 -> T = 1, j = 3/2 My question is Why there isn't a X particle with T = 0 and j = 3/2 (with the same quantum numbers as the rest of the decimet…

  13. If we look at physical laws, not as rules how a 3/n dimensional universe develops from moment to moment, but instead see them as rules that govern the structure of a 4/n+1 object, along paths in that object we call timelines. Then the problem of induction, the question why the universe obeys laws, becomes a question of why is the object is structured the way it is. My thought was: Maybe the question is asked wrongly? If the object is not really cleanly structured, but the act of creating a timeline, a lets call it "consistency" function works like a filter that excludes anything that function can not map as imperceivable and such de facto non existant, then the question …

  16. Back in college physics, the professors were teaching us that Superconductors would absorb radiation. Later in my career, I go to discuss Starships with a venerable old physicist. PhD, MD. and he told me that Superconductors could be used to protect a ship from radiation. At worldcon this past weekend (The World Science Fiction Convention) We discussed potential solutions to protection people from radiation. To which I brought up the possibility of Superconductive properties providing shielding. Now I am in doubt, and doing some research, and hit a limit of my knoweldge of physics. And came here to get some input. I found a article that showed research of…

Is there any theory in physics in which the Grandfather Paradox could actually occur? As far as I can tell, there isn't. In General Relativity, for example, time is co-ordinatized. Time and space are inseparable, so an event is just a place in a manifold. The time machines usually talked about are closed timelike curves. That's just a trajectory through spacetime that does a loop to back before the initial endpoint of the trajectory. It's not like going through a closed timelike curve lets one get a do-over. It's the same event. It is what it is. To get the do-over, you'd need some sort of meta-time which is absent in GR. It's simply a fact that, if you go back in ti…

  23. 1. Since the waves of all fundamental forces are sinusoidal, then acceleration of a particle by a fundamental force can only produce sinusoidal curvature in the particle's trajectory. 2. Since the direction a particle is traveling in can only change from being accelerated by a force, and forces only curve a particle's path sinusoidally, then particles' trajectories can only ever curve, without there ever being sharp angles; when there seems to be a sharp angle in trajectory, viewed at a small enough scale there would only be sinusoidal curvature. 3. Since trajectories of particles only consist of sinusoidal curves, and a particle is affected by forces from every d…

  24. I have repeatedly attempted to engage in sincere and civil discourse with people on this forum only to be met with vile, vulgar attitudes from cocky, arrogant brainiacs that think they know it all. Now I respect peoples intelligence, I do, but the lack of wisdom is shocking. I have stated I have realised Einstein's dream of a theory of everything, namely the universe is a kind of cellular automata. Now I assume you are arrogantly wanting me to 'prove' it to you with the divine language of nature, the mathematics you worship, would I be right?

I am an extremely well known person in spiritual circles conversing with some of the worlds most elite, diligent, enlightened religious scholars and I was told a very interesting story about Einstein. The field of physics and astronomy are currently hoping to realise, a some point in time, Einstein's dream of a theory of everything. Well I have been told that he did in fact have a theory of everything, that is a complete and logically coherent mathematical description of all the forces in the universe uniting the macrocosm with the microcosm under a very simple philosophical framework. Would you like to hear more about this story?
