  1. I don't like uppity moderators that delete postings because of their own personal issues.
  2. For this reason I never use the front page. Even from the college computers that delete my browsing history so I have to type in the url, I go straight to the usercp. I always check my subscribed threads first anyways. Part of the reason is that those are threads that interest me. There's a lot of uninteresting threads; that's unavoidable; but I wish it were easier to find interesting threads.
  3. You do realize that the staff are all unpaid volunteers? This sounds like a LOT of work for questionable results. This system isn't supposed to be that big a deal. It's one aspect of your account, and a minor one at that.
  4. We can see who is repping posts. If we think a person is going out of their way to unfairly rep someone or someones, we do our best to reverse the damage. We also possess the power to remove the ability for someone to neg rep members. A quick glance at your account does not suggest to me that you have been targeted. Perhaps it's time to look at your posts instead of blaming the system or other members?
  5. Alternatively you could go to the admin view for the spamming user and "Delete all messages sent by this user" after you ban them
  6. Sorry to interrupt this debate but it annoys me that at the top of each forum is the following message: Hello elas, It appears that you have not posted on Science Forums for over a month. Why not take a few moments to ask a question, help another member or just participate in one of our many discussions? I know from past experience that if I give a simple mathematical explanation such as in this case, the cause of negative charge (in reality it does not exist i.e. it is apparent not real); it will quickly be transferred to ‘speculations’ or ‘trash’ accompanied by a ‘warning’. So will someone please delete the message so that I can enjoy reading the forums in silence, without irritation? Thanks in anticipation, elas mod note: moved from antimatter discussion to its own thread
  7. Nevermind. Please delete the thread.
  8. How about now? I'll need to find a way of fixing the unread PM count in the user table AND removing the invalid inbox entries in the PM table whenever I delete spam PMs from the PM text table.
  9. You have one account - we don't allow multiple accounts, neither parallel nor serial. I wasn't around when the rule was formulated - but I would expect that it was designed to allow debate in an atmosphere of mutual understanding, respect, and camaraderie; you can get this only when there is continuity. You take responsibility for your posts and your opinions. There is no (or very little) impersonation and duplicity as one's posts remain on record. Post stuff that you are happy with now and don't mind being associated with in the future. But don't overly worry about the past - to the largest extent people will judge you on what you post in the future not in the past.
  10. Our policy used to be to issue infractions and send PMs to members who broke the rules in threads. This was not so successful; anyone else reading the thread could report posts breaking the rules, but they'd never see anything being done about it (since it was via PM) and so they'd assume that the staff doesn't care. This was not good. So we switched to posting in-thread warnings. These are not "in the judgment of any particular moderator"; moderators are encouraged to report troublesome posts so other moderators can discuss a reasonable course of action. Only a minority of moderator actions are taken "alone", so to speak. No in-thread comment is ever intended to "humiliate" a particular member. Our goal is to keep discussions on-topic, not to shame members into compliance. If you believe a moderator has stepped over the line and humiliated or attacked you, you should always report their post or send a PM to an administrator like myself. I can guarantee you that every reported post is checked by at least one moderator -- we have made changes to ensure that. Also, to make this clear: moderators do not ever ban members on their own whim, or delete posts on their own whim. (Unless it is blatant "BUY VIAGRA" spam.) Bans of members only occur with the consensus of several moderators, and any post deletions are discussed by the staff. We are not a bunch of angry people using our power to do whatever we want. If you believe an abuse has occurred, and you have been humiliated or attacked, report the post or contact an administrator. If you have any suggestions on how we could run SFN better, I'd be glad to hear them.
  11. Yes. Yes, I am. Your only recourse now, of course, is to send me money. I will PM you my bank account information so reparations can be made without further delay. OT: All members here volunteer their time. No overhead, really. Only cost is server that hosts the forum and those costs tend to be quite low. Also, as mentioned by Phi, there is some revenue from ads on the site that likely more than covers this. Your best bet to give back to the site is to educate yourself, help others whenever possible, and be sure to look for answers to basic questions on your own before posting them here. That little bit of extra effort from you will allow all of us to enjoy richer and more thought provoking discussions since questions will be more specific and thread participants more informed.
  12. UPDATE: Nevermind. I have found this: "If you do not want to receive visitor messages, you may disable the visitor messaging system." Before update: When I delete a visitor message, I would really its existence and what it was and who made it to disappear. That didn't happen when I recently removed a visitor message. Personally, I don't like the idea of visitor messages. We have a PM system. I would like to either be able to remove all traces of deleted visitor messages and/or the ability to simply turn off the visitor messaging system on my profile. Thanks, Genecks.
  13. ah, soyou made posts that were completely irrelevant to the discussion at hand. this is against the guidlines you agreed to when you registered so they are within their rights to delete or move the offending posts. that was your warning that you had breached forum policy.
  14. If s/he is on the staff, then yes. That is what s/he is here to do. They moderate the boards. Regular members cannot delete posts, but a mod can when they are unrelated to the topic.
  15. Yes, after some testing I can confirm that. I picked an old inactive account, with zero posts and a very low number of profile views, and then visited it multiple times and after around half an hour the counter spiked with the same amount as my visits. So it is very likely that any member/guest could have contributed several times to another members profile views. I did not visit your profile close to a hundred times, which the counter now have almost increased to. (53,378 views up from 53,286 when I made the timestamp on your profile.) And since your profile still lists me as the latest visitor, the latest increase must all have been done by guests or hidden visitors. I am pretty certain that partaking in a thread on the first page of the New content list will draw more interest to member profiles, than threads that is hidden somewhere far below amongst the older threads. And since we are talking about the profile views counter, I suspect a lot of people get curious and check the counter themselves and thereby increase the count even more. I also notice that you currently have a Recent Status Update listed on the main page, which probably causes more profile views too.
  16. Is this thread just going to be an extension of "crackpots in physics". I enjoy speculation posts, So do others by the post and reply count, PS sunshakers got some good posts in speculation, damn, I have used wrong account to post
  17. Have I told you all how dazzling you all are? You know how your intelligence seem to have no bounds.... Could such outstanding gentlemens (and ladies) delete or tell me how to get rid of the advert of my blog. I really had no intention of doing it it. I apologize, I am a bad boy, and I have reflected and I carry my shame. I have issues with having things there that don't need to be there...it's beyond bugging me at this point. Any help is appreciated. I'll give fake sincerity to anyone who does. XD
  18. Ah, okay. That makes sense. I guess it would destroy a lot of threads if an account was deleted. I'm not interested in deleting my account(!), I was just going through all the settings and wondering where it was.
  19. Other account has been suspended. Thanks for letting us know
  20. On a related note. My attachment folder is nearly full, and I don't want to delete the images that I have stored...yet, so I tried starting a thread last night, to share some pics from imageshack. However I couldn't get the links to work. Initially I just used the code the images come with, for message boards, but I just got a small box appear, with no image when I previewed the post. I tried a few other alternatives (where I can't remember exactly, what I tried) but they failed as well e.g I got a link to the image, rather than the image itself. What's the right method for imbedding pictures into a post, via a url that I'm missing...specifically for imageshack (if that makes a difference.) I did a quick scan of the FAQ's, the BB code list et.c so maybe I just missed something obvious...any ideas ?
  21. Somebody gave me some reputation points, but the whole point of doing so was so they could spam me. The comment is "Embroidery Corporate clothing tee shirt printing t shirts printing" in the form of a bunch of hyperlinks. Is there any way to delete that garbage?
  22. While it's not impossible for someone to do this for you, the short answer is, no. You cannot delete something from the board once it's been submitted. http://www.scienceforums.net/forum/showthread.php?p=439215#post439215
  23. I have that same issue now: Only for certain pages however. Science Forums, The Original > Other Topics > Politics: This one particular: The depraved state of US politics http://www.scienceforums.net/forum/showthread.php?t=35147 You do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons: 1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system? 2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation. At the bottom of the page it says: You may not post new threads You may post replies You may post attachments You may not edit your posts How to remedy Sirs.
  24. How can I terminate my membership if I want to quit this forum? I mean completely deleting my account and all my information.
  25. You can yourself erase all personal information on your profile page and then simply stop coming here. But your account and post must remain though to keep threads readable. I would advise you to keep your password safe so you can return later if you change your mind, lots of members take breaks and come back again after a few years, as long as you don't misbehave and get banned you are always welcome back again.
