  1. If you stand in the middle of a salt flat, your horizon or how far you can see, is about three miles in every direction, from that perspective 'you' are always at the center of 'your' universe. IOW the big bang is the salt flat and we're in the middle of it. And it doesn't matter what's outside of what we can see bc if we can't see it... 😉 IOW the middle just got bigger... BTW we're all time travellers it's just another direction that we can't see, beyond 3 miles...😉
  2. Of course it lies assumes certain thing's, it can't possibly process reality in real time, as tremendous a tool as it clearly is, reality takes a little time to think about... 😉 That certainly is a ridiculous statement, did your brain lie to you again?
  3. This question is akin to the, so called, immigration problem. The cold hard truth is, most people are happy to see it happen bc it doesn't really affect them, and they like to 'google' on their friends when they insist, that a tomato isn't a fruit. You can't stop an invasion that's already happened.
  4. What iceberg? The future is so easy to predict when it's already happened...
  5. Who told you that? It's up to you to gain legitimacy, through reasonable conjecture.
  6. I look forward to the time it does all the hard work for us, no more zero hours contracts and it's ilk. I see no real reason to fear the future of AI, as long as it's available for everyone to make use of it; AI maturity under that condition, will make money a pointless concept.
  7. I get what you're trying to say, but if I can quote Frank Herbert "science is like a balloon, we blow knowledge in, which inflates the ballon, but in doing so we increase the surface area of what is unknown" (or words to that effect), standing outside the balloon it's easy to say "look how big it is, there's so much that we don't understand, how can they say I'm wrong?". Sometimes scientist's do fall into the trap of belief, like every other human on the planet, but that doesn't entitle you to say "therefore what I believe has equal legitimacy".
  8. But it is fun to speculate... 🧐 Seems obvious to me...
  9. Ahhh, a neg, an anti-point; there's a reason why antimatter, isn't dominant...😉
  10. Indeed, that's why it's not important... 😉
  11. I'm sorry but this is typical of the age we live in, the seventh'ish epoc of the age of nihilism, of which you're a part. You're so busy finding fault's in the bible, you miss the relevant part's "it's easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to find heaven"; Trump isn't the antichrist, much like antigravity, there's no such thing. Trump is 'our' product, just rejoice in the fact that he'll never be happy bc his locus of control is definitely external, and consentrate on your own; which is also mentioned in the bible, I don't know where exactly, TBH I don't care... 😉
  12. I wondered about the ankers too, but I guess even a failsafe anker drop would have little effect in this case.
  13. The problem is that words like this exist, and some people think that because it has an official definition, it legitimises the sentiment; and as @J.C.MacSwell points out, it gets twisted and mangled to the point that even the greediest think their moral compass is pointing north; then even their grandmother's are up for sale, rather than up for their thanks. Word's often don't mean anything in different culture's, that's why they're lost in translation; I doubt aborigines/indigenous tribes even have a word for self-made, except for perhaps 'God'.
  14. I wonder, are you being deliberately obtuse? I said thinking... Why would I do that? Thanks mate, that lil ol neg is acknowledgment that you've run out of steam on this thread (which kinda makes me right, go me...).
  15. The point is in the flawed thinking, "rich and successful as a result of your own work and not because of family money" The thing is, every family has money and since you're alive, how can you tell? The point is, self made is impossible as a legitimate concept in the real world, for example, I am, literally, a paedophile, I love kids they bring joy to my day (mostly), but I'm not going to say that, in the real world either. It depends on who switched it on... 😉
  16. Indeed, but the question remains, where's my +1...
  17. The only connection I can think of is, Dawkins wanted to cancel Jesus... 🤔
  18. Like this: Which bit is doing the thinking? All we can say is, it onlly happens in the brain, the only caveat I can think of is the neurons around the heart, but their only thinking about the beat, "Ha Ha Ha Ha, staying alive, staying alive"... 😉
  19. OK, let's switch things up to illustrate my point. Our own @Markus Hanke is a recognised self made/taught physics expert, but I know that he will acknowledge that he had to be taught the basics, before he could build his bank of understanding... People can't pull themselves up by there bootstrap's, because it's basically a computer joke... 😉
  20. Nice post +1 We just hope AI can fix them for us, it just seems like "A brave new world" and is wrong for all the same reason's, different strokes for different folk's....
  21. Indeed, the hermit has the strongest claim to the title, but even they need, at least a good ax, not easy to get without some help. Anyone, who claims to be self made are just deluded. My mate thinks he is, he just forgets that he grew up in a council house and was educated in a state school, he also forgets that his parent's went on to buy that house, at a huge discount, from the state, and the profit from that inheritance, funded your building company and the tax benifits therein, also given by the state; and you think you're self-made, mate keep taking the pills you get from the chemist...🙄
