Aliens from space (split from Time to talk about UFO's or now as the military calls them UAP's?)
Maybe later, I'm watching a film ATM... 😉

Your thoughts on Neil deGrasse Tyson
My thoughts are, he's a good teacher at a certain level, IOW he's read at least two pages past his student's, but doesn't understand the question of puberty... I'm with @Eise +1, just late to the conversation...

We have a miriad of evidence that ghosts are real, yet no one, who didn't want too, has seen one; imagine the career of David Attenborough if he spent his time on TV trying to show us a unicorn instead of a dragon "I'm here at the last place on earth, to show you this magnificent creature, and there it is; no wait was that a donkey?"

TFG or That Florida Guy? Either way, can the GOP win in 2024?
Indeed, but as much as I'd like politics to always plow the middle furrow, I just hope the suffering is short and sharp, rather than a long and protracted deviation, which is what we could get if Trump was half as clever as he thinks he is. Most politicians don't get too, bc enough of the population usually get to vote, if the GOP get their way only white women and their rich husband's would get to.

The faster we achieve the political extreme's the faster the pendulum swings the other way, I just hope I don't have to suffer... 🙏

Assimov was very careful to sepperate that from his hyperspace fiction.

Overpopulation in 2023
Huxley was indeed prescient on the subject. Let's hope Nietsche was too.

Let's do it! Do what? All you've got ATM is, my bible is better than your scientific knowledge; I didn't think you liked that approach... Indeed. "God/alien's is the blanket we use to cover the unknowns and give it a shape." I think this was a quote from a roadie for the "Rolling Stones".

Indeed, trying to guess where they came from is a lot easier...

ZOMBIFICATION OF HUMANITY AND THE HERALD OF AI.
Again I cite "The parable of the madman", in which he's trying to shine a light that other's should follow (clearly a metaphorical teacher) and the efficiency of that struggle depends on the time of day (cometh the hour cometh the man). IOW what's the point of seeing the light (inner peace) if you can't point it out to other's, the village idiot who can't show why it's cathartic to stand by the side of the road and wave at traffic, will remain a madman in the eyes of the rest of us. It's literally the start of all the major religions, a teacher that shows us the path to peace, and I think Nietzche spent his life and his mental health in persuit of the path he assumed he was on, until the death of his father. Would we even have heard of this hugely intelligent man, had his father died peacefully in his old age? An ubermensche at the wrong time of day... This is a generic description of both, not a critique of either in the context of this topic. When are 'you' going to think about this?

ZOMBIFICATION OF HUMANITY AND THE HERALD OF AI.
It very much depends on who you believe, Aldus Huxley or George Orwell.

Was Nietzsche talking about the 2nd coming of Jesus?
What makes you believe that?
-
Was Nietzsche talking about the 2nd coming of Jesus?
Again point well missed, who are you to say what they believe in is nonsense, that seems arrogant to me, is what you believe truer? In the words of Jimmy Carr "there are two types of idiot in this question, those who believe the bible is litterally true and those who believe religion has no value".
-
Was Nietzsche talking about the 2nd coming of Jesus?
OK, that's two negs for two reasonable post's, are you offended or insulted by my conjecture? What makes you think I want people to feel sorry for him? These arguments are really very weak indeed. I merely provided context that I think lends credence to my premise, his early life was steeped in a belief in the god of his father's teaching, which he was entirely happy with until his fathers very painful death. My point is, sigh 🙄, the village idiot is perfectly content with his lot, he doesn't even care that we call him the village idiot; which is a really neat fit with the madman parable I mentioned earlier in this thread and whomsoever Jesus actually was, which is also an irrelevance to my premise; someone inspired the book and it seems was inspired by who many thought was an equivalent of 'the village idiot' or <insert idiom here>.

No more than it means the unexplained is worthless...

Why use the atomic bomb on Japan?
Indeed, it depends on the context, but let's be honest, there's fook all we can do to stop his finger; the illusion is his ability to win...
-
Was Nietzsche talking about the 2nd coming of Jesus?
When did I say he was a poor man? How do you persuade the village idiot that it's not fun to wave at the car's? It doesn't matter what illusion or delusion you choose, if you're content with the result. For instance, if you imagine the bad guy who forced you to stop waving at the traffic, got his comeuppance; most of us would be happy with that, for those that aren't, an illusion that it's a bad thing to do may stop them from negging a reasonable post... 😉

Asteroid defense ideas
I imagine the timing would be an issue, given the relative approach speed.

Why use the atomic bomb on Japan?
Wittgenstein. That's my response. Haha wait until you read my science fiction book! None of that explains anything, what exactly do you think is wrong with my logic? And we circle back to the post of mine you negged, what makes you think this issue would crack the top twenty of legitimate threats to your daughters mortality (that you can do something to affect)? You might think it's a laudable objective, but so is a cure for everything, a more laudable one is to come up with a perfect shield that is shared with the world, bc that is more achievable. He hasn't yet, that should tell us something about the reason for his propaganda, it strengthens his apparent resolve and ability in the eyes of his enemies; he doesn't give a shit about 'his' people.

Was Nietzsche talking about the 2nd coming of Jesus?
You had me up until my bolded part, the context of his thinking, until the tragic death of his father; the truth he found so ugly and frightening was 'the death of god'. I think the ubermensch he had in mind, was the person that could create the necessary psychological crutches for the so called 'herd'; of which we are all a part. That we're not all born equal, is in some ways literally true and seemingly obvious, we've all seen the village idiot who's happy to just stand at the side of the road waving at passing traffic; for me, and I think N, he would be like john the baptist, Jesus (no one special) was the one person who got the lesson and he happened to be really good at PR. IOW the ubermensch was just a lucky guy with the right skillset.

Why use the atomic bomb on Japan?
Indeed, my point exactly. 😉 IOW it's an impossible dream, so why even worry about that way of being dead?

@Orion1 I'm waiting... 🧐

Why use the atomic bomb on Japan?
We still have (by which I mean some of us) a viable small pox virus, can't think why we'd keep that around?Just hoarders I guess...

Why use the atomic bomb on Japan?
That's not true, at all, especially in this context; it only really work's in the traditional Mexican stand off, where each player knows the other player's only have one bullet each and it only work's for the first player to throw away the gun, even the suspicion that one of the other player's has more than one bullet, invalidates the throw away your gun theory. And if there's four player's the advantage would go to the player, who shot the player who was first to throw away the gun. 😉 After that, it gets a little complicated. That's certainly true of the musket, in this context, after that it gets a little complicated... 😉
