If there was just one person on Earth who had covid, how would we know the threat to the rest of us?

We can never know when we cross the event horizon, but we can wear a seat belt. With such strong push-back against sensible measures, such as mask wearing and vaccination, I think the tipping point is in our rear view mirror. Fundamentally, human rights in a pandemic is no different to any other time; we're not allowed to kill, through action or inaction. If that requires a stick, then so be it; even if we'd all prefer a carrot. Evolution won't let you do that...

We need energy to exist...we get that energy from the Sun fundamentally, and via food as an extension. Without that energy we hunger and die. That applies to any living organism. Our advanced Alien friends would know that. So why would we need to explain hunger via maths? So, no you can't... 😉 What if they're deaf or don't own a record player? It was my two peneth on Phi's post in a well defined topic, I see little reason to assume that. Besides, smoker's are refused treatment everyday if they refuse to give up. There's plenty of things society mandates for the greater good, not carrying a gun springs to mind. No one should be free to kill people, ignorance is no defence.

I hate to do this, but why is their faith, wrongly placed? Since all evidence confirms that their faith was wrong? Every empire, both grows and dies...

Indeed +1, as a society we can only travel at the slowest speed of it member's, but we can pick them up and help them speed up. No one has the right to expect help when they need it, without getting on the train with the rest of us...

It's not about who's more advanced, since there's no such thing as a babel fish and a universal translater is a fantasic fiction; language without context has no meaning. A lion understands a lion, An alien understands itself and a human sometimes understands another human, if they share a language... A better analogue is, It's like walking on a beach and aiming for a diamond that's of interest.

That depends on the percieved threat level, so staying hidden is the best approach for all... because when they're ready to threaten, we have no seat belt available; even if the alien is an ant hill. Not personally, but I understand it involves a turkey baster... If I happen to be on that rare part of the spectrum of life, as to be a 'human' that is both capable of producing sperm and an egg and a usable womb and lucky enough too utilise our best technology. I have a third choice... 😉
