  1. This chart of Japanese cherry blossom seasons going back to 812AD seems to support the onset date of the current climate change cycle as happening during the industrial revolution. of the mid-1800's.
  2. The mirror segment actuators are controlled by software which can constantly adapt their configuration in real time to the prevailing seeing conditions affected by localized changes in atmospheric density. They aren't set-and-forget optics. The ground-based adaptive telescope views can apparently rival space-based telescopes in image quality.
  3. Yes, you are probably right.
  4. Doubt that they charge to 100%, more like 95%. 4.1v is 'full'.

Yes, that illustrates the fluidity and kaleidoscopic nature of English evolution perfectly.

It means the English don't have rules that stay inert over time. They change according to the needs and social whims of the era. Common contemporary usage of a word becomes its de facto definition. English dictionaries are records of historical usage, and not authorities. A word's meaning may change over time due to a change in popular usage. Does that make sense?
  7. It turns off permanently by design if the residual cell voltage drops below about 2.7v. The normal operating voltage is 3.2v - 4.2v. The 3.2v point is the arbitrary 'zero' point. At some point just below that, the battery is considered to have 'failed' and the circuitry disables it. If the voltage further drops below 2V, the lithium can turn metallic and form web-like structures, which can short-circuit the cell, heat up rapidly and go into thermal runaway. I've seen it twice and nothing can stop it. It's like a jet engine. "According to my sources Israel has not yet decided when to send US ground forces into Iran."
  11. The Iranians have access to a hell of a atemi point in the Strait of Hormuz. Nice to see the shoe on the other foot. We are a bunch of twats, and we were due a kick in the collective nuts.
  12. Yeah, shouting and singing generating plenty of pathogen-bearing aerosols.
  13. All are factors compromising mucosal integrity, allowing direct exposure of epithelial cells to pathogens. Apart from the physical barrier, it is host to lysozyme, lactoferrin, and immunoglobulin A. Also, the cilia move mucus in a conveyor fashion that has trapped pathogens to be swallowed and neutralized in the stomach. If the mucus dries, those functions are disabled.

In the same vein: "Firstly, THANK YOU everyone for your concern. I’m okay, just a bit shaken up. Fact is I was robbed this afternoon in broad daylight at the gas station. Afterwards, I was disoriented. My money was gone, so I called the police, who asked if I knew who did it. “Yes," I said. "It was pump 4.”
