I was watching posts about mass affecting space-time and things like that, and i found a variety of answers, but i didnt saw anyone explaining it totaly. So by my opinion best explanation for this is:if we imagine a space like a trampoline that has no middle part. When we drop heavy object like bowling ball it bends trampoline and all the small balls fall to the recess what the big ball made. But if they have speed they wont fall closer to the middle. But why does the light curves? Well again imagine trampoline and bowling ball, and put a laser at the flat part of trampoline.Beam wont follow the hollow, but to the object that is in the hollow it is going to look like the be…

Hi, I don't believe in God but I believe in ghosts. Couldn't be ghosts footprints of us left in other dimensions? It's easy to explain other's consciousness but our own is difficult to explain. Maybe our brains can interfere with other dimensions, and psychics can interfere more. If part of our consciousness is in other dimension(s) different than the traditional 3 our own consciousness could be easier to explain. How to gain access to other dimensions? Maybe our brains can align some sort of dimensional dipoles like magnetism. Why do aliens look so much like us? Maybe they originated in us and evolved in another dimension. Maybe they're in the future. What do you …

I have two questions for yall today. 1. How did the earth keep an orbit as it was forming billions of years ago as it was pulling clumps of matter together and gaining mass? 2. If you took half the moons weight and added it to the earth, say by spreading moon rock over the surface, would we fall out of orbit and die? (ignoring the fact the moon would collide into us if that happened)

This is my first post so i hope its in the right place (im new to this site) and im interesting in understand or standingover the foundations of physics, most physical equations can be proven within the realms of our testing apparatus but for me the very nature of this equation seems deceptive so i would appreciate your feedback okay so Einstein's proposal was as follows E = Energy (the fundamental force for & of our physical existence(a physical form of change( time is needed and for([x=12],[y=112.7],[z=1pp])....you get the picture))) M = Mass (Existence as our approximate mass relative to the specific weighing system but not fallacious of it) C = Constant (The…

I have just got my hands on a book called "Quantum Mechanics " written by B.H. Bransden & C.J. Joachain. It states that in 1964 a radio noise was discovered, and was interpreted as due to black body radiation at an absolute temperature of approximately 3 K, which fills the universe uniformly and hence is incident on the Earth with equal intensity from all directions. It seems to be very similar to Cosmic Background Radiation, but this was not discovered until 1965. Will someone please explain the difference between these two discoveries ?

My question regarding Gravity and spacetime. I have seen example of the Trampoline effect when explaining gravity and 3 dimensional cube models. Here is what I thought was happening and I wondered if anyone can shed some light to where or not I am making any sense. In the trampoline diagram we see something entering an orbit due to the curve create in the spacetime grid. Kind of like something going down a drain so to speak. I picture a 3 dimensional grid, let’s say it’s made of a liquid sponge. I take an object like my fist for example and place it into the grid. The fist would be forcing the liquid sponge away from its self which would create pressure back …

Let’s say, state A is the opposite of state B and state B is the opposite of state A. Normally if each of the state has an opposite results of themselves to an extent that the result of a mathematical method in state A can be obtain in state B and the result of a mathematical method in state B can also be obtain in state A. -Is this in relation with quantum entanglement in any way?

The only thing I really know about neutrons is that they add to the atomic weight of an element without adding to its charge. I suppose I also know that a star can develop into a neutron star, which would be very dense. Now I am wondering about the following questions: 1) are there any natural sources of free neutrons besides radioactive decay? 2) why/how to they decay into a proton and an electron after a short time? Are they actually just a weakly (nuclearly) bonded configuration of these two particles? 3) why don't they exhibit ideal gas law behavior? I would expect them to behave like a non-combustible form of hydrogen if they were permanently charge-s…

I am interested in doing experiments using specific frequencies to destroy mold. According to my research 26 kHz will destroy n Aspergillus. I would like to test this out. Question is how can I generate 26 kHz? What form of energy should I use? What kind of device should I use? I was thinking of using radio frequency generating device. However most of those seem to start at 100 kilohertz and up. Maybe electromagnetic energy would be better? How would one go about generating an electromagnetic field that pulses at 26 kHz? Any input is appreciated http://iopscience.iop.org/0256-307X/15/2/014;jsessionid=AB6A60375E0A820121FB1BB4601EE076.c1 An ultra…

This is a response to an emerging discussion in another thread about the common claim that most of an atom consists of empty space. My question is whether it makes sense to attribute any volume at all to the constituent point-particles or if that's like claiming that 0-dimensional points make up a small amount of volume in a 3D object. Can electrons, protons, and neutrons be described as having volume and "empty space" or do they generate volume/space with their energetic interactions: from previous thread: Ok, but nuclei are configurations of particles, not particles themselves, right? I'm just wondering if there's any basis to that assumption that the partic…

If you make a line starting at point zero and going to infinite, is it really representing something infinite? The question arises because the "infinite" line has a starting point: it has an edge. Can we say that something infinite can have an edge? I am confused. When something starts somewhere, in space or in time, it has a starting point (kind of tautology). Can we consider this starting point as an edge?

This may be more of a chemistry or engineering question but since it involves light, I'm posting it in physics. The issue I'm wondering about is whether it is possible for some material, used in flooring for example, to reflect much light and absorb little, but also scatter the light so that photon density close to the surface remains higher than if it were more directly reflective, such as a smooth white surface. If "photon density" is not directly clear in terms of what I mean, I'm thinking in terms of the angle of reflection/refraction for the light being very low so that light beams remain closer to the surface/ground longer. Second, if such a material ex…

Hi there! While charging a metal sphere(connected to earth) negatively by induction,by bringing a positively charged rod near it,why does the electrons flow from earth to the sphere? When we want to charge the sphere positively by induction, the electrons flow out from the sphere when connected to earth. Why does it happen? Could someone care to enlighten me on this? Thank you in advance! Good Day BTW,I'm new here! Nice to meet you all. Nila

If gravity was really strong on that level, then electrons probably would fall into the nucleus. If the attraction between individual electrons and protons was a lot stronger, then electrons would probably fall into the nucleus, but once again, things are very small and close to nothing on that scale, so there's more room for freedom and forces are a lot less stronger. In fact, the reason an electron does have those probable places only around the nucleus and not in it could be the fact that on an individual basis a proton isn't strong enough to pull an electron directly inward with all the momentum and wave-like movement an electron has. On a macroscopic scale, since…

...and deliver it to Earth, as an effort in harm reduction from the dangers that nuclear technology presents? Are the resources available to get sufficient nuclear reactors in orbit, and could a viable method of transportation of the product back to Earth be possible? I have this idea of giant cables reaching out from the planet like tendrils with a nuclear power plant at the end of it, and was just wondering what radical solutions to mitigate the negative aspects of nuclear energy there might be.

I started to post this in the thread about light bulbs but I thought it might be considered hijacking. As I understand it, a 15watt cfl produces as many lumens as a 60watt incandescent, both of which can be replaced with a 5watt LED(or was it 3?). I would think LEDs are the limit for lamp efficiency but is any greater efficiency possible? Once total lighting efficiency is reached, what will be the next great "efficient technology race," iyo? Or maybe the better question would be what technology has the greatest potential for energy-efficiency increases after light-bulbs?

The other thread got me thinking. The Earth's axis of rotation (around itself) can change after an earthquake. See here as an example http://www.geekosystem.com/chile-earthquake-earth-axis/ I know that rotation isn't the same as orbit, but they are related, and I'm trying to think, theoretically speaking, if this can affect the actual orbit. I'm not talking about noticeable effects, I just want to know if theoretically this will have an effect. What I'm thinking is simple - if the Earth's axis shifts, the mass distribution on that previous axis changes too. More than that, it won't just "shift" axes - it will bobble, so we get a pendulum effect. wouldn't that …

A magnitude if divisible one way is a line, if two ways a surface, and if three a body. Beyond these there is no other magnitude, because the three dimensions are all that there are, and that which is divisible in three directions is divisible in all. One thing, however, is clear. We cannot pass beyond body to a further kind, as we passed from length to surface, and from surface to body. For if we could, it would cease to be true that body is complete magnitude. We could pass beyond it only in virtue of a defect in it and that which is complete cannot be defective, since it extends in every direction. …

The following map depicts Earth as having a topography of variable gravity: http://www.bbc.co.uk...onment-12911806 1) Why does gravity not correspond with altitude? It is weaker in the Himalayas and the oceans than many other places on land. 2) Could Earth or another planet be non-spherical and still appear to be because of gravity? E.g. if Earth was potato-shaped, wouldn't water still disperse across the surface in a way that the surface would appear flat to a sea-bound observer? At what altitude, then, would the odd-shape begin to become apparent or would it at all? edit: Could an odd-shaped mass have a gravitational field with the same shape such that …

Hey Guys, I am new here and hope this is the right forum to post this in. I have been wondering for a while what would happen in this scenario. What if you had a bowl shape covered in permanent magnets with the negative poles facing up and in and then you have a ball covered in permanent magnets with the positive poles facing out. I say "covered" because I don't know if radially charged magnets exist and even if they do I'm sure they are rare and/or pricey. So I envision using small neodymium magnets to cover the surface of the two shapes. Now in this setup what would happen when the ball is lowered in the bowl? I envision the ball levitating but probably spinni…

Hello I'm studying for a course in Environmental Studies and I wondered if anyone could provide any help. So I've been given the handbook of what is supposed to be known as well as the textbook. However, the text book does not provide sufficient information regrading the following. Quoted from the guide 1. The wave nature of electromagnetic radiation and the electromagnetic spectrum 1A. Wavelength characteristics, and the environmental importance of ultraviolet light, visable light and infra red light 2. The characteristics of insolation and factors which cause it to to change... at the outer limits of the atmosphere as it passes through …

Hello, I'm an undergraduate in biomedical engineering, physics, chemistry, and pure mathematics. As you all know, a human can travel at any velocity he/she chooses. The problem arises when the human accelerates to a high velocity in a short period of time (or in other words, accelerates too fast). I was pondering a question about how to decrease the force felt by the human body in motion and therefore increasing the rate at which that person can accelerate. Obviously, the technology is beyond our grasp, but let's say we could induce a gravitational field in any direction we pleased on an aircraft. If we induced a field in the opposite direction of force we felt when we ac…
