I recently acquired Adobe Flash CS4 Portable by Atalay, and it runs just fine on my own machine, which is running Windows XP. But it will not run on my wife's brand new laptop, which has Windows 7. It returns an error to the effect that the program was stopped. When I poke around with the event viewer I find that it's apparently an APPCrash. I was told to try turning off UAC, which I did. But she doesn't have Win 7 "professional", so the process for turning that off isn't quite the same. It uses a slider instead. I just bought a new Hard Drive, a Western Digital Caviar Green 500GB so I could install Win7 on it without messing up my XP install until I am fully migrated. When I try to install Win7, it tells me it can't on that drive because the drive has problems and might fail soon... then it lets me and gets most of the way - only to crash out due to a missing file or something like that. I'm trying to figure out whether I was just unlucky enough to get a dud drive, or if something else is out of whack and causing the drive not to behave properly. I hate obtrusive ads that are obnoxious and take longer to load than the page I'm trying to read, so naturally I use adblock plus (with the default filterset, EasyList). However, I'd like to contribute to websites I visit, especially those using unobtrusive ads like text-only adsense. I know I can add individual exceptions, but I'd kind of like to have a different approach. Is there a filterset for adblock plus that blocks only obtrusive ads?

Hi, when I am typing in MS word or MS outlook Express my cursor will all of a sudden jump to various locations in the document. sometime it will jump to the same spot when it does jump and other times it will jump all over. I have to then make corrections to the doc and bring the cursor back to where it was before it jumped and continue on. it is very random when it jumps, you can not predict that it will jump after typing so many characters or specific characters or to where it will jump. am using windows xp home premium on a dell xps laptop.

Hi , some strangeness occurring with my internet connection. As you know, most mobo's have two ethernet connections. Randomly, I will get a disconnect that requires me to switch the ethernet cable to the other port. Anyone have a clue as to why this might be happening? Thanks.

Hey, this isn't strictly computer help but i figure its close enough. The main TV is a phillips(can't remember the exact model number, i can get it but my dads watchingsome david attenborough programme on it just now so i'll get shouted at if i check just now) but it developed a problem a few months ago, on the right half of the screen, the red pixels do not go to full brightness(or at least not all the time). its actually a bit complicated, i tried this out with my laptop, if you set the red value to 254 then the screen is equally bright all over. if you up the red to 255 the left half doesn't seem to change which is pretty much expected, but the right side gets …

So, my grandma had emails on webTV, transferred to a localnet address, and currently residing on an old linux computer, saved in an old version of ThunderBird. We no longer have those mail services, as they came with her internet connection and she has switched to verizon. Now, she uses yahoo and gmail for her email. She wants to get rid of the old computer, but she wants her old emails as well. Is there a way to rescue them?

I feel like I abuse the system, always asking away yet never being able to help others Ok, my external Hard Drive has the capacity of 640 GB. In explorer and it says that there is 380 GB free space still... However, I am unable to copy anything to it, giving me the error message "Cannot copy. Not enough free Disc space". My computer is working really slow, I was thinking about getting some assisatance. I really have no idea what I am doing, has anyone on here tried geek choice ? A co-worker said they might be good. I also found these guys, but their site does not look good to me. I just need somoene who can solve the problem with my computer. Every time I open my internet explorer it takes nearly 3 minutes to display on screen I have also noticed a small clicking sound inside the computer itself. What does this sound mean?

I started using Google Chrome for Macs a few days ago. It works pretty well, but there's one issue I've been having. When I click new posts here, the size goes down one. I have to command = to put the size back to default(at least what default was on Firefox). The 'actual size'(command 0) is fairly small. Is there a way to fix this?

I'm about to buy a new printer, in its technichal specifications it says it Does not support Linux. Which I find odd as it shouldn't really matter, Ubuntu Linux worked fine with my old printer. I think what the website selling the printer is trying to say is that The software CD which comes with the printer is only meant for Windows and/or they've never used the printer with Linux so they just say 'No' on the site so as to cover them selfs. Would I be right in thinking any modern inkjet printer will work fine if I just plug it into my USB port. Thanks in advance guys

I'm not sure what type of software this would come under or even if it exists(i suspect that it would either be a content management system or a database but honestly i haven't got a scooby). what i want it to be able to do is manage files. i have a massive folder chock full of PDFs word documents, spreadsheets etc etc. from uni. i want to get hese organised so i have a nice little reference if i need it. so if i can insert the file into this program along with some extra data(what class it was for, some keywords for searchability and so on) and maybe have it all contained within the one file for easy backing up. oh, and linux compatability would be excell…

Hello, so I have this computer of mine wich is made from scratch really, like a digital Frankenstein. It runs on WindowsXP, and is usually great, but the other day it took a bit longer to load then usual, and all the sudden, before loaded the screen went blank and a message saying that the <Windows root>/systems32/ntoskrnl.exe. file is corrupted or missing, and to please reinstall it with recovery disk. Well, I dont have any disk for it, and I am kind of at a loss for plan of action towards getting that file. I have looked on line a bit, but couldnt really find anything. Can anyone help me? Thanks.

Hello Everyone, I have big problem and need solution. I am not able to start My XP. I have install dual OS XP and Fedora. I have deleted the XP's C: drive where It was installed. Now the problem is that I am not able to reinstall it due to fedora's Non Dos partition. I want to delete the Non Dos partition and install XP back.. I dont want to lose my data on other drives like D:,E:, and F: .. Is there any solution to delete the fedora an can get my space with XP back???

I hadn't tried it with much at all, and figured it was an isolated problem or drivers or such. I've updated to all the latest drivers and found that multiple programs (Fallout 3, EVE Online, etc) show the same symptoms. It will run well and fast, and then lock up for a few seconds - 3-30s, and all the textures will become corrupted. Good evening Whenever I want to burn a music CDRW on iTunes it starts making this odd clicking sound and doesn't end up burning the CD. I tried using the regular drag and drop onto the CDRW burning folder itself and it still makes this odd clicking sound. I'm using tdk DVDRW and they worked fine when I first got them then all of a sudden it's doing this. I've tried another brand of disk (sony) and it's still making the same noise... I have a bug or virus on my PC that uses my bandwidth. I downloaded a program (Net Limiter 2) that monitors all network activity on my PC. It shows what program accesses the internet and how much data gets transfered. This program indicated that in was explorer.exe that was using my broadband so in task manager i just "End Process"ed it and problem solved... Except now i don't have explorer running. So i can't access my programs or files etc. As soon as i "Run" explorer.exe it continues using my broadband. My anti virus (Avg free) hasn't given any errors or alerts etc however it hasn't been able to update itself either for no apparent reason (it could be related).…
