  1. Given a 1M concentration of HCL and NaOH here are the pHs: pH of HCL: 1 pH of NaOH: 13-14 and of course water has a pH of 7. Here is a reaction that is most likely to occur: HCl+NaOH+H2O->H2O+NaCl(aq) However I think that other reactions are theoretically possible. Like for example theoretically sodium oxides could form from the OH− taking a proton from another hydroxide anion thus giving you O2− which could react with the sodium to give you Na2O which is a sodium oxide. I also think that theoretically Cl− could steal electrons from the OH− since Cl can exceed an octet of electrons. This would give you neutral OH which could then react with another chloride ani…

  2. Hi! I have a swimming pool chlorinater with a sealed lid due to the drying out of the chlorine gases that rose to the top.Is there any easy solution to dissolve this seal? There is a cap screwed onto the canister with and o-ring. I thought I had a silicone gel applied that would prevent this from sealing. At this point it is impossible to remove the cap. Anxious to hear all suggestions. Thank you

So I am currently studying acids and bases and looked up the acidity of skin, which has a pH level of 5.5. My question is if skin is in fact an acidic substance, why is it that applying HCL or other acidic substances harms it? Does adding acid to acid induce reaction as well?

  8. From what I understand fuel efficiency is define by two variables. 1 Type of fuel being used. 2 The type of engine. Where engineers make the engine more fuel efficient. The type of fuel being used. A fuel that is more densely packed molecules is more fuel efficient than a fuel that is less densely packed molecules. A fuel that is less densely packed molecules is less fuel efficient. We use fossil fuels because it is cheapest out there and the most fuel efficient thus densely packed molecules.

  9. Hey, I know that trying to put lithium or any alkali metal in water would result in hydrogen gas and an explosion, but is it possible to dissolve small amounts of the regular 1s^2 2s^1 form in a solvent that wouldn't react so violently? I mean, it wants to give that valence electron away, so could a solvent shell form around the lithium atoms (if they were unbonded) even if it technically doesn't have a charge? That probably sounds a bit jumbled, so here's a hypothetical scenario to better illustrate the question: A lithium atom with all its original protons and electrons intact is put inside a liquid solvent that is made up of a molecule that has a + side and a - sid…

Hi recently doing a project . I recently bought an ozone generator which is used for clarification of wastewater . Everything was working fine until droplets of water began appearing on the outlet tubes of the ozone generator . Thus I was wondering if it was possible that this happened because there is an air leak in the output section of the generator which causes the outside air to react with the O to create H2O ?

Hi. Im working on a school project and cant find any answers anywhere. What i need to know is if its possible to turn a liquid into a sticky liquid. To make it very very sticky. Kind of like a gum but a little less solid? Just like maple syrup when heated, but even more stickier and gummy then that.

  13. What is the general principle of reaction chemistry? Is it justifying observed reactions theoritically or Predicting the mechanism of reaction in theory and matching with the experimental reaction.... For instance...reaction of flourine with water One way to work this out is by analysing the bonds and intermediates theoritically to find d products and then matching with the one that occurs in experiment Other is to carry out d reaction practically and analyze the products and thereafter justifying why the reaction takes place that way

  14. This may be a relatively dumb question but I would rather ask it than not at all. I have an ultrasonic humidifier. If anyone has ever owned one, you've probably heard that distilled water is the best to use for these devices to reduce mineral build-up a well as minerals entering the air. My question is, how does vaporized distilled water act in the air? I know it absorbs minerals and CO2 when it is consumed or in a liquid form but does this rule apply to it being airborne? The reason I ask is because I have plants that as any person with a general amount of biology knowledge would know, absorbs CO2. Plus you never know what health hazards could also…

I am having difficulty in finding information on how ionized atoms react chemically in comparison to non-ionized atoms of the same element. For instance, would an ionized noble gas then become more chemically reactive? Sorry if this sounds ignorant but my understanding of chemistry is rather limited.

Unfortunately, I do not have the education necessary to create a solution base on this formula. I was hoping somebody could help me by guiding me in the creation of the solution or telling me where I can learn how to do it. Thank You for any help you can provide me. sucrose (4%) + Al2(SO4)3 (100 ppm) sucrose (4%) + Ca(NO3)2 (1%)

  21. So, if there are any Star Wars fans out there, you may be familiar with the breather that is in the pre-sequals of Star Wars. A very useful tool, but the question is if it is possible to develop some device that is similar. It would seem pretty straightforward, so I did some research on how this would be possible. First, we have to assume that the user is underwater. The way this breather could be developed is by having a small container that attatches to the breather. This contains the mechanism that converts the water into oxygen. This can easily be done with the electrolysis of water. However, we want to be environmentally friendly with this device. Theref…

I just read Nineteen Eighty-Four for the first time in over a decade. I got to the part where Winston Smith was being tortured with electricity. This has made me wonder ... is that plausible? Like ... how many kilowatt hours of electricity, per second, would it take to torture somebody? I know the book never says how many volts are being put through Winston's body (it just says the dial goes up to 100, but doesn't specify unit size), but it was enough to make Winston forget why he was counting the fingers, so let's use that as the threshhold. If we assume that electricity costs ten cents per kilowatt hour, how much money would it cost Guantanamo Bay to electro-…

So i have an MX-5 and whenever i wash the windscreen (doesn't matter what with and yes ive tried new blades) it makes this oily looking smeer right in front of where i need to see! I have tried newspaper and vinegar. I have tried specialised windscreen cleaner. I have changed the wiper blades. I don't know what else to do so my next step is Science! Does anyone possibly have any idea of what this could be and how to get rid of it!! Thank you
