Hey all, im just a normal everyday guy with a idea. Im not sure if there has ben any reasurch done for this. But i know there is work on taking brain waves and useing the data to move objects or tell what words they are thinking. My idea is to do the opposite. How headphones plays a song out of the earpeice, have a connection to the brain to hear music without actually hearing with the ear. Or see a computer screen directly from your eyes without there being anything there. To roughly put it, hotwire the brains preceptions. It would be cool to connect a cpu directly into yourself rather than a monitor, mouse, keyboard, and speakers. Or connect netflix …

What was probably the typical age a woman would conceive for the first time in prehistoric times before contraception etc? I know there would have been some variations between tribes living in different areas, but I'm only after a likely average.

if you imagine a human being that is born without all 5 senses. It can not feel/touch, smell, taste, hear, see. let us say that one sense is given back on this person, for instance: touch. Can it learn, with that sense alone, how to communicate at all? Are babies susceptible to language impulses by parents? my question is: is language innate or merely taught? I myself think of how many people are horny daily, and how many people speak. It is almost equal in amount. so I dare to say language is not something one learns by way of parenthood. It can, at best, be improved by parenthood but even that is given to genetic ability. And does it…

Most people would say they feel a release of pressure and pain when they crack their back, fingers, or other joints. I however, feel a more euphoric feeling that can be compared to the feeling of being on a good drug. I asked a bunch of people and tried to do more research on why this happens and I could not find anything. I understand that bubbles of air are released from the synovial membranes and can cause a rush of good feeling due to the release of pressure and pain. I don't see that as being the answer as to why some people, including myself feel a more intense drug-like sensation. I have also heard that a history of drug abuse in the past can have som…

I think if you want to get only a little pedantic, then if you'v ever eaten corn it's GM corn. The question is how the genetic manipulation has been done. Corn (as well as other crops and, of course, animals) has been selectively bred for thousands of years; corn has stark differences with the wild maize that it is descended from. I wonder how many people realize that the sole purpose is to modify the genes, even if the practitioners didn't realize this. I do realize that GM is usually meant as a different sort of modification

I'm just putting this in a different thread so that we don't hijack the original. So, This is an offshoot of a discussion in the "Cultivate salt water crops", in which the statement was made that, Another poster commented that the U.S. is a net exporter, and thus does not really need food imports from other countries to sustain their populations. This was countered with The question of whether or not we can sustain or grow agricultural production in a post-oil/post-fertilizer economy is a useful question. I personally think that a transition to ecological agriculture will allow us to maintain production, but it would require a larger amount of people …

I read a study stating that some of this combined were morepotent than when used alone. I went toschool for health and human performance so my biochem is not very deep. My understanding was that all of thesecompeted for the same receptors. How canthey be more potent if that is true. Maybe I just don’t get it. Does anyone know how to identify the colonies of bacteria in this picture qualitatively? I trapped the bacteria in a milipore filter from my home source of water and incubated them in a TSA plate. I'm trying to find out if it is anything to worry about, since water is only tested for E. coli and nothing else.

I had an exam a couple days ago asking for maximum number of electrons in the third shell of an atom. The correct answer was 8, but I keep seeing all over the internet that it's 18. I also saw on the internet that elements like uranium and radon have 18 electrons in their third shells. Our textbook, however, does say that the max is 8. I asked my professor about it and he basically just looked at me like I was crazy and was really adamant about it being 8. Please help. I feel really confused at this point...

Dear all, I am a mechanical engineering student conducting research in developing new numerical model for green roof. A relatively unknown domain for me is plant physiology. I am looking for an expression that give rate of water transport through soil, plant and to atmosphere that may include, among others, soil water potential, air vapour pressure, etc. Can anyone in this forum give me a link to these areas? Thank you for your help Aloysius Decruz PhD Candidate University of Nottingham Ningbo China

Hi all. Never seen such before yesterday. It is soft, rubbery, wet looks, bright orange, white base, black top. Today it has its point bent down, but still there. There is no more around, nor parts of it as if it was missing something. What is it ??? ----> http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss323/Innernet/P1000982.jpg Other pictures ----> http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss323/Innernet/P1000983.jpg ----> http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss323/Innernet/P1000984.jpg

Hi, I am working with the good old PMSF inhibitor, that is supposed to inhibit a broad spectrum of serine proteases. But how broad is this spectrum? I am wondering how different its inhibition is to different proteases. Can one tell me if it inhibits plasmin (sounds trivial that it should so, but I could not explicitly find it) and if so with which Ki value? Any good source for PMSF Ki values for different proteases? Many thanks, Csiszi
