i had this idea about 2 years ago and think about it now and then. As of now its just a dream. My thought is transporting electricity through the air for ex: like radio waves as opposed to a conductor like a power line. If this were possible the possibilities would be endless. Anyone have any idea(s) on how this would work?

this is a modification of this thread:http://www.scienceforums.net/forums/showthread.php?t=5017&highlight=enterprise with modern/theoretical physics, we could create a cruiser with nearly the same capabilities as the Enterprise NX-01(less capable than NCC-1701[insert letter here]). how would it work(please, no startrek technobabble. (ex. heisenburg compensators))? i was thinking that for propulsion, it could modify the higgs field in the back of the ship(in such a way that it would have enough negative pressure to make repulsive gravity) and have some sort of graviton exchange in the front.

In the next month sometime I'm going to test my first homeade rocket motor. I'm using a commercial case and nozzle (which is made of aluminum), but I can't find any specs on the maximum internal pressure the case can withstand. The best I can do is calculate the pressures commercial rocket motors create and try to keep my homemade ones in that range. I want to build some sort of CHEAP box that will withstand a small blast and contain flying aluminum shrapnel. The tops and bottom of the box will be open (I don't care if it flies up, I just don't want a razor sharp chunk flying at my head). Any suggestions? It needs to be as cheap as possible!

space is like time. time cant be real, it a man made thing or sorts. what was before the beginning of time??? if there was nothing before it then how did we all get here? with space, whats on the other side? and whats beyond that? so there cant be an end which doesnt make any sence. have you ever herd about how light beds? perhaps space does as well. im no physisist but im trying. remember those OLD video games where when you run off the screen to the left you appear back on the right side of the screen? maby this is where worm hole come in... im going to stop here before i start to sound crazy. tell me what you think...

After the success of my first video rocket, I've decided to try and push the boundaries of model rocketry--with a video camera onboard. The goal of this rocket project is to boost an onboard digital movie camera over a mile high (1.61 km) and successfully recover it. The main challenge as I see it will be recovery of the system. The rocket I have built for the project (seen below) will not be visibile at that altitude. I'm also limited by the small size and general inavailability of fields around town. Because of this I've decided to go with a 2-stage recovery. The plan is to have an altimeter fire a charge to eject a 7' (2.13m) streamer at apogee to help find the ro…

I know this is very unlikely to happen anytime soon, but just speculate with me for a second. Do you think it is possible for man-kind to go without economics as we know them? What if we got rid of all the currency in the world and the acquisition of wealth did not exist? For example, in the science fictional world of Star Trek the acquisition of wealth is irrelevant, humanity works to better itself as a whole. Now I know there are many things to consider, food, resources ect ect. Everything money buys really. And in the Star Trek world they have replicators which can make anything they want or need. Could and would humanity be able to handle the distrabution…

The Arctic heats up faster than the rest of the globe because dark ground and water, once exposed, soak up far more heat than snow and ice. Why does darker matter soak up more sun then light matter?

Adding carbon to steel makes it harder and stronger. Is this true for all metals? Could you add carbon to titanium or vanadium to make them even harder and stronger? On the contrary, why adding sulphur to metal to give a softer metal? I could imagine there's no chemical reaction.

E = m(1+D) In an earlier posting I wrote that I was prompted to tackle the subject of "Time" by a vague idea that whereas Time is a real factor for living entities, in the case of Universal matters a Time element is proportional to distance and does not warrant a separate dimensional term... This thought still bothers me. What say you ? Elaboration: Suppose that in E = mC^2 FOR THE WHOLE UNIVERSE the E is constant. This mandates that since C is constant also m is constant. This bothers me. Now, if the right side of the equation is m(1+D), where D= Distance from point of Big Bang, then both m and D vary continuously, and the original initial m decreases c…

Why, whenever you are outside at night, do all of the lights extend into beams of light perpendicular to your vision? For example, when driving, the cars coming towards you on the other side of the road have lights that create a beam upwards and towards the ground... Or, when looking at a street light which has lights extending in five directions... Thanks

I was just outside lying in the sun with a towel over my face, and sunlight got through tiny holes in the towel, it wasn't a very thick towel. It made pretty little circles in front of my eyes. I started playing with them (for want of a better word) and they got bigger and smaller depending on how i focused my eyes, as one would expect. After tinkering with my eyes a bit, I was able to 'zoom in' to these circles while still focusing on them, and saw that I could see the surface of my eyes in them. little bugs floating around in the liquid etc. I'm interested to know how a towel could act like a lens like that... It was very cool, I recommend you all try it.

by a strange train of events i have aquired two biological duck units. The small one we believe is female, they aren't that old yet though. The female is malfunctioning and somehow losing wing feathers. We are not sure if it is natural, or if one or the other of the ducks is doing it. The feathers are being stripped down to their shafts--- any idea what is going on and what to do about it?

When you drive past cars that are at rest, you hear something. It sounds as if the car is driving past you. Is that the doppler effect? Or is it something else? Why does it happen? The car isn't making any sounds but going past it you can hear a sound.

Hey, does anybody have any information about the physics of skywriting? I just wanted to see if anybody knew anything...I tried doing general google searches, but I mainly get advertisements. Someone told me to look up the physics of how light could be scattered by the smoke to make it seem very white, but I don't know what that would be called. Would it be called refraction or just plain scattering?? And how exactly do solenoid dowels and manifolds work?!?!!

I have here 2 slugs of Am241 (.7 micro curies each). they emit Alpha particles and are widely used in many Smoke Detectors. I`ve done alot of research into HOW they actualy work using search engines over the last year or so. I still have no more than a VERY vague idea I`ve been trying all this time to get SOME sort of usable energy from these slugs, examples: I made my own Sodium Iodide (supposed to glow on exposure) same with Zinc sulphide and Calcium sulphide. no glow I`ve tried charging Leyden jar capacitors with the alpha particles, nothing I`ve even kept one in a sealed vacume tube for 2 years and periodicly passed a high voltage through it to …

Survival Most books that teach the language of Mathematics, ignore our cognition’s abilities to understand and define the fundamental concepts of this language. Language is a tool that gives the cognition its ability to examine the object, the subject and the value of object/subject relations. For billions of years, living things have been learning how to deal with internal and external challenges occurring in their ways, and as the phenomena of life becomes more and more complex, it needs better tools of communication that will give it the ability to save and develop life from the single gene to the existence of civilizations. The language in its bot…

I am quite confused about the purpose of each of those 3 parts of a lab report: conclusion, evaluation, and discussion.... These 3 particular parts of a lab report generally mean the same to me, so I am struggling when my teacher asks me to write each of them individually in my labreport.... Any help? Albert

Before 1983, the meter was a different size than the current meter. I read that the current meter is based on the distance time can travel in 1/299,792,458th of a second. Where did anybody come up with that number? Now we have to say that light travels at 299,792,458 meters per second. Wouldn't it make it easier on scientists if 1/300,000,000th of a second was used? That's just my opinion. Does anyone know why 299,792,458 was used?
