my answer to the above questions would be a solid yes. while not detectable on a short run, if you compare syllabuses and exam papers from a couple of years ago and now. you will notice that it is indeed true. with the rocketing of pass rates, surely this must stop somewhere.

Im looking at going to University in September next year in the UK after my A-Levels. I have no idea how Universities work when it comes to classes, lectures and setting work. Is it like A-Level where you attend a series of classes, do work and study in class for exams, is it like Primary School where you are in specific classes and taught one to twenty or is it something completely different? Any info would be great, Thanks

Currently, I'm studying Electrical & Computer Engineering. As of now, I'm planning on stayin in school for awhile (hopefully to attain a Ph.D). I know it's important to set yourself apart from the crowd for graduate school so I want to take the steps early on before it's too late. My school offers a dual degree program with Physics and ECE. I was thinking about doing ECE and Applied Physics dual degree OR double major. The other course of action would be to double major ECE with Applied Math. Which one will be more beneficial to me down the road? I like both subjects equally and wouldn't mind studying either.

Hello all, Need some advice, I have been accepted to do my Degree in Science the only problem I am having is that I haven't study in years!!! The degree starts in January so im beginning to "hit" the books do some reading, some research etc... my only problem is concentration, if I read something 10 minutes later I completely forget what I was reading. I hope this is a temporary thing maybe because I haven’t studied for a few years

Yes, I need help reading. Not so much the actual act of reading, but how to concentrate on reading. I can't focus for more than two or three sentences before I zone out. It takes me hours to read a chapter for philosophy when it should really only be about a half hour of reading. Is there anything I can do to focus better so I can get my homework done?

I am not a US college student, but it's like a resolution for me to apply a good university, esp in USA/UK, eg, Harvard. However, I have read an article somewhere about the mastriculation methodology for Harvard, Princeton, Coolunbia, etc etc is based on a system called AI, which includes a criterion on mastriculant's "outside school" grades, like any achievement you have accompolished outside the school, like sport, music, literature, science on a level range of 5, and, not neccessarily the SAT score. besides, is it also true that the legacy of Harvard has a better chance to be accepted?? Any idea on this?? thx

right i need to pick an elective class for MEng in Chemical Engineering nad i have worked it down to 3 possibles. 1. Engineering Physics: All about waves (sound and light) but you get to use some really cool and big lasers 2. Intoduction to process biotechnology: examines some extraction and production processes and you get to make BEER! i don't like biology that much and i haven't done any since second year in highschool. 3. biomedical engineering: sounds cool with loads of cyborg type stuff and artificial organs but again i'm not too keen on biology. any advice? i'm currently leaning towards No.2

Question: Do you think that alternative learning environments are "better" than say a normal classroom environment? For example, I go to a School called the Harwood Community Learning Center. I go there for two hours every day for 4 days a week and am completely focused in my work. Another great thing about this program is that I am able to create my own curriculum. For example, I'm doing a science project on Anti Social Behavior Modification. I would have never been able to do something like that I was in a "Normal" High school. If I were in a normal science class, than I would be failing because I was bored or was talking to my friends, etc. But even though I'm with oth…

Hi - Matt here from Australia, We are currently entering a new phase in education known as outcome based education. I'm sure many of you out there are familiar with the term. I was just wondering if any one has had any experience with outcomes based education particularly with regard to science? What kind of difficulties have you encountered? What are some of the benefits of the system in regard to science? Any responses are appreciated

I want to learn English grammar and elements just like those native-born speakers--although I already know some rules of grammar. I think to make me throughly understand English that I need to learn as a begginer. For example, I don't know why people often put "else" behind the nouns it is modifying. Else is an adjective, so putting it in front of any noun should make sense. Also that in Mandarin speaking, we could put any kind of adjective in front of pronouns. But this doesn't work in English; it just doesn't make sense to people. I don't know why. When I speak, I memorized lots of grammatical rules which I have to think before speak. And I think in order to go to UC-B…

I have the ability to actually learn things twice as fast as average people. I find that I could probably earn my Associate's Degree in one year if I chose to go for it. What worries me is the ability to transfer credits/units and the degree to a different educational institution. From what I have researched on the Interest the only place that seems to go quickly is a place called Excelsior College. I'm sure that other online institutions could offer me a speedy course schedule, also. From what I've been wanting to do, I've actually thought about joining the U.S. Military so that I may obtain money for living and education. Taking five years of time off school…

Out of interest, I took a sample of SAT-I test paper, and I evaluated myself. To my surprise, especically in the mutliple choice question involving filling the gaps of sentences and choosing the right pair of related rephrases similar to the original ones, about 1/3 of the choices I dont know the vocab... I feel that the SAT's text is written in a certain style. Do you guys know any genre of text which is written like the SAT one in a similar way?? because I want to practice my vocabulary. This is my very 1st time that I disillusioned how poor in vocabulary my English is. Seriously, I never heard of those words, or any one spoke in that kind of tone. …

Okay - I'm heading off to college in 3 weeks (as I've said in past posts). In these next few weeks I have to finalize my schedule - which incidently finalizes my major pretty much. I'm going into engineering. I'm definitely majoring in Biomedical engineering - but my university forces you to double major BME with some other "traditional" engineering major. Initially, I wanted to do Mechanical + Biomed; but now I'm not so sure. I'm interesting in chemistry and physics - but I like physics more because, to me, it seems more practical. It seems as though in the earlier classes I'll have more "hands on" experience instead of just learning the theory (like Chem E).…

Maybe this is not news to anybody http://infoproc.blogspot.com/#112101839736725138 it's about an economist's study of outsourcing hightech work especially to parts of asia. and an apparent decline of interest in science and engineering (he abbreviates S&E) careers among US highschool and college students. surprising conclusion, for me, was that the decline of interest in S&E among US students (I don't know if it really exists, but assume for argument's sake) can be argued to be economically rational because of increasing job competition from overseas. Not sure what I think of this. Could be flawed.

I'm attempting to think of good ideas for my physics project. I was thinking along the lines of measuring the speed of light using lasers or the optimum volume of water in a water rocket to provide the greatest height. I'm not too sure about the laser experiment as to how to carry it out but it's something i'm definately interested in exploring. Any comments or serious problems which i may run into? Any ideas? Thanks alot guys!!
