Yesterday, scientists for Health Canada suggested that men should take a look at their beer consumption, considering the results of a study showing the presence of female hormones in beer. The theory is that drinking beer makes men turn into women. To test the findings, 100 men were fed six pints of beer each. It was then observed that 100% of the men gained weight, talked excessively without making sense, became overly emotional, couldn't drive, failed to think rationally, argued over nothing, and refused to apologize when wrong. No further testing is planned.

I posted 2 replies to threads - the squid thing and the star wars thing but they haven't shown up - why? Is it some crappy server thingy or what? Bear with me - I'm an impatient sort of person who doesn't respond well to glitches!!

The "other" forum I belonged too had a "chatroom" through sorcery.net. It was no biggie to set it up. We would arrange to have "Chats" by people in various fields (ussually friends of mine). For example, we had Michio Kaku (Strings), we had Elaine Morgan (Anthropology), and we had W. S. Davis (Cosmology). I also had Astronomer Martin Rees (Astronomer Royal of UK) interested, as well as Dorion Sagan (Yes: THAT Sagan), Lynn Margullis (Discovered Sybmiosis), Brian Greene (you all know who he is), Seth Shostack (SETI) and several others. But....I left the forum before all could come to fruition. Would that be possible here? Just wondering. Thanks; Bill

As we approach the eve of the time change, one cant help but wonder the purpose of this seemingly unnessicary notion. We all seem to be doing just fine on the current time right? The Machavelian aspects of this, in context of political and agricultural benefits is obvious, but is it nessicary. I know its only a minor gripe and the adjustments become second nature within a week or so for most people. But this change is just a microcosim of some of the unorthadox practices here in the States. I would like to here others opinions on DST as well as other unorthadox practices here in the states.

I am in the process of putting togeather my next book. I have run into an unussual snag: the title. I have 2 that I like, and cannot choose. I would very much like to read YOUR views. Background: the book is an examination as to why American Public Schools are amoung the worst in the world, while Private and Home schooled students are at or above the world average. The book will not be very "warm and fuzzy" and will make some pretty unpoplular statements which will be backed up by facts. Here are the title choices, and please, if you hate both fine. What I don't need are suggestions as to a "Better" title. These two were chosen out of several by my agent, publicist an…

As I begin writing this next book, I am looking for stories about how public education is letting down students. I am seeking examples, anectodtes, stories, etc. At the same time, I am also hoping to find some positive stories from schools, private, public, homeschools, whatever. If you believe that your time is wasted in school..now is the time to say so. All names will be kept 100% confidential. Please e mail your acounts to: drwdavis@prexar.com subject heading: "Book" Thanks Bill

I'm going to pick up a few books from the bookstore soon, any suggestions, preferable science related? I'm thinking about: "The Selfish Gene" - Richard Dawkins "Right Hand, Left Hand: The Origins of Asymmetry in Brains, Bodies, Atoms and Cultures " - Chris McManus "Faster than the Speed of Light: The Story of a Scientific Speculation" - Joao Magueijo "The Electric Meme: A New Theory of How We Think" - Robert Aunger has anyone read any of these?

When i was like 10 (im 15 now) i got a piano from my parents in christmas. As time went by ive been ignoring the piano 'till now where i discovered "music" My aunt already gave the piano away to my cousins not long ago. How am i going to explain to them that i want a piano for my birthday? Im really scared they'll get mad at me. I found out that the arts is my path when i grow up, cuz i suck in math and science. All i see are a bunch number coming out of no where. :bs:

The other forum is great, but I do not need personal attacks, e mails to my home and ofice telling me I will "Burn in Hell" because I understand Darwin, or that I am, in fact "Satan." This forum is great, and I think that I will be very comfortable here. The other forum is a great forum as well. I miss being there, but to each his own. Bill

I found out, thanks to the board admin here who had come to bash me. At the same time, I have deted two posts bashing another forum. IF ANY posts are in any section that I mod, and are negative towards any other FORUM (we do not name names..suffice it to say any means any) they will be deleted. These other forums are not in competition with us..they are different and have differing ideologies and memberships. I belonged to several, and found two that were great. This is one. Be that as it may..NO MORE blatant attacks of anyone here or any other board. Thanks for your maturity. Bill PS: making fun of me is fine.

But the opening message should be 'of x and myself', or what have you, rather than '...and I'. Who knows, perhaps maybe many an aspiring scientifically minded pedant has turned away at the door in disgust.

We now (us--You and Me) have our very own chatroom. There is a Java link, but for those running mIRC or similar programs, the channel is on sorcery net and is #scienceforums. Now that we have established this, we will be asking for inputs on a schedule of possible Open chats with folks in various fields of science. What we would like is to have some idea WHOM you would like to chat with. Some people require several months warning, some only a few weeks. Sooo the sooner we get started the better. Bill
