  1. Wow, I really like the idea with the heat.... And, well, if you were to do the experiment, would you just use time on heating mantle as the independent variable, and well control the amount of Vitamin C, and amount of solvent there is for it? Also, would you ahve to make sure that the temperature is constant for the mantle in order to use it every time? What would be the easiest way to approach the heating part of this experiment? Also, suppose a fruit or vegetable was used.. If a green pepper was used instead of vit-c tablets, how could I come about doing that? Would i have to extract Vit C, or crush up the green pepper in solution, heat it, and then titrate the extract from green pepper (after filtering the extract out from green pepper..) What do you think?? ANd thanks for the help
  2. I have to do a science fair soon and write up the procedure and background info.. I have been thinking of topics, but I don't know how to further develop them so that they could be more than just extractions or something of that sort. These are 3 topic choices that I could do a research project on... Caffeine Vitamin C I can do the extractions.. but from there, what can I do with caffeine extract, or Vit C extract that would make it be labeled a "Science Fair Project" or that I could further do research on. If anyone can help, or suggest topics to work on, that would be greatly appreciated.. I need ALOT of help. Thanks. Also, if something research-y can be done with Cleaning agents other than testing how effective it is, what could I do with that?
  3. thanks.... so it's sorta like how enzymes and activation enzymes work.. in a way.. like how it should have certain shapes and binding sites so that they'll match up...
  4. Why do some antimicrobial agents affect bacteria, but not humans? Does anyone know?
  5. Does anyone know the Lewis Structure for: A. HOCN (HO-CN) Polar or Nonpolar? B. COS Polar or Nonpolar?
  6. Does ANYONE know how to solve this Heat of Vaporization problem? My teacher is HORRIBLE, we haven't really learned any of this, and she gives it to us. and I'm completely lost. If you can, can you walk me through the problem? Problem: A chunk of sodium metal is cautiously dropped into a mixture of 50.0g of water and 50.0g of ice, both at 0 degrees C. The reaction is: 2Na(s) + 2H20(l) --> 2NaOH(aq) + H2(g) Enthalpy: -368 kJ Will the ice melt? Assuming that the final mixture has a specific heat capacity of 4.18 J/g C, calculate the final temperature. The enthalpy of fusion for ice is 6.02 kJ/mol

    AP Chem Labs

Does anyone know a great site with many AP Chem Labs? I'm looking for AP Labs on these Topics: Fireworks-Related Labs (How is Fireworks related to Chemistry, Btw) Electrolytes in Sports Drinks vs. Water (something with electrolytes) Cleaning Reagents-related Chemistry of Foods Thanks

    Redox

first, the CuSO4 crystals were added to the test tube... afterwards, a paper circle(filter paper) was added and the tub was filled with water up to CuSO4... then, NaCl was added (4-5 g) and then filter paper was placed on top, along with addition of water.... on top was the iron nail, and then the tube was filled with water.... on 2nd day, i noticed a yellowish-brown solution near the top and then a light greenish solution in the middle... the bottom had a black substance.. the nail rusted and Cu (s) was observed... also, yellow precipitates were observed...... what would each color be, esp the yellow precipitate, the yellow solution, and green solution...

    Redox

so.... when you said that the green is probably the iron(II) ions... can it not be FeCl2? or FeSO4 after the redox reaction between Fe, CuSO4, and H2O and NaCl... and you also said that the yellowish brown liquid is iron(III) ions....is it not FeCl3? thanks

    Redox

thanks for the info... i wasnt sure what everything was in that experiment. is the NaCl working as something called the salt bridge (heard about it). and btw, do you know if the iron (III) ions float on the surface of the solution... also, there seems to be a dullish pink substance below a layer of my NaCl that is left and copper and sulfur (i believe).. any ideas of what it may be?

    Redox

has anyone ever done the redox lab with the iron nail and copper sulfate, adding the NaCl and water? i was wondering if anyone knows the products that are formed in the experiment... one is what is the green color in the experiment? and what is the yellow liquid at the top of the solution? thanks
  12. quick help please... does anyone know why dye solutions must be boiling hot? also, what is the relationship between chromatography and solubility?

    Science Fair Topic

thanks... i'm working on abstract right now.... thanks a ton! i have all the info i need..

    Science Fair Topic

so.....since you say what you gave me are results, then when you put heat : ...... that means, if you're increasing the heat, rate of reaction increases and same with everything else...if ___ is increased, then that's what happens?

    Science Fair Topic

hey, so are those that you gave me....hypotheses? right now, i'm feeling empty headed with bio stuff
