It's a bit of a trivial thing to make a thread over, but does anyone here know of any good online revision or testing sites for subjects like physics, mathematics, and chemistry? Not necessarily ones with revision notes themselves, but ones with questions and/or quizzes would be helpful, and I'm sure some of the people here are into those sites and know of a few good ones that would take a while to Google. I ask because I'm doing some quick revision of previous work in preparation for university interviews, and it's been almost two years since I finished the A-Level so I'm a little rusty. I'm reading through textbooks from about 25 years ago, but they're so much mor…

Now I don't know anything about cloning. However the other day I was thinking, if they can clone an animal, that is a living thing composed of cells etc. etc. , then is it possible to clone food? Food is composed of cells and such and are living things. Now like I said, I don't know much about this subject and there might be an obvious answer I don't know about, but any answers would of most interest.

Hello, After dabbling with science on an amateur/foundation level for a year, I have decided to pursue a BSc in one of the science fields. However, I'm torn between physics, biology and chemistry, all of which I find appealing. Since I feel attracted to them all, particularly modern physics and biochemistry, which one would provide the best employment opportunities in the future? It seems at first glance that chemistry and biochemistry would provide the best opportunities, but would it be possible to study physics on the undergraduate level and then study electrical or mechanical engineering on the postgraduate level? That might cover both bases . Thanks fo…

I'm writing a research paper about adult stem cells, and I have came across termology im unfamiliar with. The term is canonical wingless pathway. In a report I have found <http://www.jbc.org.proxy.lib.ohio-state.edu/cgi/reprint/M406275200v1> this below is an exerpt how it is being used. thanks. "It is established that human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs) from bone marrow are a source of osteoblast progenitors in vivo and under appropriate conditions, differentiate into osteoblasts ex vivo. Since hMSCs are recovered by iliac crest aspirate and enriched by virtue of their adherence to tissue culture plastic, the cells provide a convenient ex vivo model for the …

I'm an American and work for a European company in the US office. We have Sr. Mgmt from England over here and a number of British expats working under them. There's an enormous amount of nationalistic tension between them and the Americans. For quite some time I stayed on the sidelines of this feud because I saw the Americans as being more than equally guilty of progressing this, plus, I've worked in an international environment for quite some time and realize how stupid and destructive this nonsense is. One of the things that really tees off my US counterparts is that while the essence of an ex-pat package (and it's a nice one at this company) holds that it giv…

Sooo... Half-Life 2 is available tomorrow (at least legally it is :> ). Anyone else going to buy it/has preordered it with Steam? I think it has had so much hype that if it sucks, some people (most likely including me) are going to smack their heads against the wall for a few months.

Imagine this,a rock flies up the air while cooling down,a projectile accelerating while losing heat.We never see this kind of phenomena happening even though it is follows the 1st law of thermodynamics, that energy mya be converted from one form to another without loss. However, the second law of thermodynamics states that entropy is one-way(ie. we cannot decrease entropy without an increase in it locally of a greater magnitude)As we can see, the amount of usable energy deceases at an accelertaing rate. The random movement of molecules can't be ordered up in a single direction, therefore decresing entropy and increasing the amount of usable energy.thermal energy, however conver…
