Speculations Forum Rules

The Speculations forum is provided for those who like to hypothesize new ideas in science. To enrich our discussions above the level of Wild Ass Guesswork (WAG) and give as much meaning as possible to such speculations, we do have some special rules to follow:

  1. Speculations must be backed up by evidence or some sort of proof. If your speculation is untestable, or you don't give us evidence (or a prediction that is testable), your thread will be moved to the Trash Can. If you expect any scientific input, you need to provide a case that science can measure.
  2. Be civil. As wrong as someone might be, there is no reason to insult them, and there's no reason to get angry if someone points out the flaws in your theory, either.
  3. Keep it in the Speculations forum. Don't try to use your pet theory to answer questions in the mainstream science forums, and don't hijack other threads to advertise your new theory.

The movement of a thread into (or out of) Speculations is ultimately at the discretion of moderators, and will be determined on a case by case basis.

Hi, It is time again for my yearly update. These cosmological speculations were largely 'induced' from the philosophical paradigm/syllogism: "We and the Universe around Us are involved in an ongoing, staged process of self-engenderment or self-creation; wherein and whereby the Creator of Us and the Universe around Us is attempting to engender or create itself." see http://www.self-engenderment.com My variant of the BB/BC model presumes that the BB event/body displayed a high degree of 'angular momentum'. When this conserved AM began to be co-opted by emerging sub-atomic structures, the BB event/body partially collapsed, and as a consequence ejected 2 large …

Water is critically important to life. Very few, if any, biological systems or reactions will function without water. There is no substitute for water in life as we know it. Logic would suggest that the evolution of life was also dependant upon the unique properties of water. Is the affect of water taken into consideration within evolutionary theories or is this variable left out even though nothing will work without its unique properties? The answer is this critical variable is left out of the analysis even though it was no doubt critical to every step in evolution. That being said, what is unique about water, is its properties are defined by hydrogen bonding. The o…

  3. E = mc2 = m(c/cos0)2 By Suhail Jalbout Nothing can travel faster than the speed of light; the Theory of Relativity tells us. I think that it is possible for a single pulse of light energy, transmitted at random, to do just that if projected on an incline. The speed of each projected pulse will travel faster than the speed of light. I am not certain whether my analysis is purely a mathematical exercise or whether it has important theoretical and practical implications. I leave this in the hands of the experts. Here are the equations that support my hypothesis. A. SPEED Let c = the speed of the light energy pulse from the source (the speed of light) V = t…

From the perspective of a photon traveling here from the big bang the world as it is now would appear to have been instantly created. For me this implies the idea of predestination. That is, everything that has happened and will happen was determined in the big bang itself. Hope you can follow my logic. It also implies that there is a unseen dimension which is timeless and in which all matter is in immediate contact with all other matter.

Hallo! Sorry if I bother you with trivialities or a topic which may have been discussed before, long ago, but after seeing websites like this: http://www.reformation.org I could not help wondering how can some people get so provocative... So my question is: Foucault's pendulum is considered a crucial proof that the Earth rotates. Nevertheless: 1) It can't possibly be the ONLY such (direct) proof! (Lutheran fundamentalists seem to mock about the fact that even NASA "fails" to provide "more recent" direct evidence.) How many other proofs are known? I can very briefly recall Coriolis effect on hurricanes and winds, as well as the motion of ballistic missi…

  8. Hi, everyone. I'm new here, and a high school student, so try to please salve the insatiable voracity for ripping apart threads with scrutiny for the heresy "Intelligent Design" articles one may stumble upon; I'm admittedly a tyro. I want to broach Metaphysics, because the field is one that I hold as an experiential sentiment. I "claim" (trying to keep the crude skepticism at bay) to shoulder both voluntary and involuntary relationships with that of clairsentience, claircognizance, past life regression, aural capacities, healing capacities, blah blah blah blah blah blah... Essentially, I was contemplating the absolute existence of dimensions: Are th…

To keep things simple lets ignor the matter in the universe for the moment. The universe comes from nowhere, there must be an explanation as to why nowhere becomes somewhere and this leads people to think of highly speculative theories.

Hi Everyone, http://www.gpofr.com This is a link to my theoretical physics paper (ebook) I've been working on for sometime. Hope you enjoy it and please feel free to pass it along to friends who might find it interesting. Its still very much a work in progress and my first attempt at writing an ebook. What is contains I believe it to be very significant. Just to point this out, my new relativistic mass equation presented in the book equates the relativistic mass of Jupiter to the value of an electron charge which is 1.6x10^-19 C (exactly). It was something I did not expect to find but the new equation was the one that gave me insight into this relationship whi…

Could “time” possibly be defined basically by the geometry of any particular system? Say you take the universe at any particular time, such as if you take a snapshot of a system, then not observe that system, then take another snapshot at a different time could being discrete like that still allow for say finding what governs the system? Such a simple example I think of course would just be on earth with someone dropping something. Yet as I would like to phrase my question, which is difficult for me, is can you apply such to the universe? It would seem if that laws of nature did not change in time that such should be able to explain the big bang, not saying anything …

Hello all, Wow, it's more than half a year since the last time I'm here. After a series of debates about energy theories, I seclude myself and determine to find out what was going on. I've found the answer, but that's not what I'm here for. I'm here to touch your belief system, vibrate it alittle bit and hopefully something will crack. I just want to introduce the brief history of what happened back then. It was the time of Leibniz and Newton/Descartes and their view of Force. Newton/Descartes were the creator of the formula "mv" where m=mass, v=velocity. It is now known as momentum. Leibniz was the creator of the formula "mv^2", which later modify by Corio…

I fail to see an experiment clarifying the properties of antimatter gravity and so far I've only heard of 2 speculations: i) Antimatter gravity is the same as matter gravity, as gravity is a property of mass, ii) Antimatter and matter repel each other, but antimatter pulls itself together in the same way as matter does. I'm thinking of something else: Matter gravity --> A "force" that pulls "everything" Antimatter gravity --> A "force" that repels "everything" In the beggining of the universe, a gravitational effect like this, would make the concetration of matter higher at the center of the universe "globe", while antimatter would mainly concetrate far fro…

I just had this random thought... Since electric field can be blocked by a metal sphere in electrostatic equilibrium (when there is a charge outside the sphere and the sphere reaches equilibrium, it becomes an object of equal potential, so electric field lines can't penetrate the sphere), is it possible to block gravitational field?

Does anybody know anything about these? http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2007/11dec_themis.htm Apparently "Magnetic Ropes" are said to connect the Sun to the Earth. I am unsure if this is similar to what happened with the Nasa Polar program. They reported 43,000 ice/methane comets pummeling the earth daily back in the late nineties but it turned out to be static noise. Are these magnetic ropes for real? Or imagined?

Today in science class we were examining vials of different elements and compounds. My friend, being the joker he is, took the vial labeled hydrogen gas and opened it. It wasn't that big, and my face was a few feet away from the vial, but I'm just wondering if I'm going to suddenly explode without warning. I haven't even written my will yet! Thanks for the help.

Is there any weight to the claim made by these web sites: http://www.water4gas.com and http://www.savefuel.ca ? They send HHO into a vacuum line of a gasoline engine and presumably you save fuel...Someone told me there was a recent Popular Science article that debunked these claims. I am really tempted to get a kit from the first site and try it. Also I heard a similar process was implemented on WWII P51 mustangs to super charge them and it worked okay - when it did work; otherwise they blew up..... any insights are appreciated.

I have studied the Grand Canyon a little bit and throughout my research many people referenced the creation of the canyon to have formed primarily via river erosion. While I do not doubt that a river has eroded the walls of the canyon I do not believe it is responsible for it's great expanse. Searching the USGS earthquake database I found the following information regarding the total amount of earthquakes having been recorded since the seventies. The grand canyon has by far the greatest ocurrances of earthquakes which suggests it has the greatest potential for tectonic movement. The Grand Canyon 36.3N -113W 300km radius 936 quakes 500km radius 9860 quakes …

The story I've heard: Earth is an experimental ground. Current human race is the latest patch of the experiment. The time has come close weather or not to destroy this patch. The discussion amongs our maters has broke out into votes: 1/ The experimental must be filter and destroy now 2/ This is a crutial time to filter out more successive ones. The reason why this experiment be destroyed because when the human race realized who they are and what kind of power they have, they are much more powerful than their own master. Thus, without achieving the standard moral necessary to control this power, humans are a threat to this universe. The story of Adam an…

As this seems to be the forum for idiots to spout off half-baked ideas, I figured I'd chime in with my own two cents. So I recently (in the past 6 months or so) read Lee Smolin's now outdated book Three Roads to Quantum Gravity. The central theme of his book is that spacetime is discrete and is probably best modeled by forms like spin networks or spin foam. But Smolin's book is, at this point, some 7 years old and not exactly representative of the state of the art in modern physics. The "traditional" approach involves a continuous spacetime. There are no discrete structures, there's nothing special going on at the scale of the Planck length, and spacetime conta…

Hi All, This is my first post here on this forum. Glad to be here. This forum looks and feels much better than PhysicsForum, and more open and tolerant. I want to give more insight about a holitic theory I developed in 2002, and of course I am open for critics and questions. My theory is about cosmology and the growth of complexity, from fundamental particles, atoms, molecules to complex organisms. Pelastration is a coupling mechanism in spacetime development. The term pelastration combines PEnetration and eLASTic and STRAtification (layers). I see spacetime as a real physical phenomenon. To me spacetime is a dynamic oscillating membrane, non-breakable…
