Speculations

Pseudoscientific or speculatory threads belong here.

Speculations Forum Rules

The Speculations forum is provided for those who like to hypothesize new ideas in science. To enrich our discussions above the level of Wild Ass Guesswork (WAG) and give as much meaning as possible to such speculations, we do have some special rules to follow:

  1. Speculations must be backed up by evidence or some sort of proof. If your speculation is untestable, or you don't give us evidence (or a prediction that is testable), your thread will be moved to the Trash Can. If you expect any scientific input, you need to provide a case that science can measure.
  2. Be civil. As wrong as someone might be, there is no reason to insult them, and there's no reason to get angry if someone points out the flaws in your theory, either.
  3. Keep it in the Speculations forum. Don't try to use your pet theory to answer questions in the mainstream science forums, and don't hijack other threads to advertise your new theory.

The movement of a thread into (or out of) Speculations is ultimately at the discretion of moderators, and will be determined on a case by case basis.

Do you think that someone will somday come up with an actual perpetual motion machine? I like to think so...then again, I like to think that I will come up with one, one night while bouncing a super ball...but what do you think?

Abstract The inertial phenomenon whose characteristic quantity is that the inertial mass is one of the natural phenomena known soonest but its nature has so far still been a big scientific enigma. On the basis of analyzing trends of cognizing the definition of inertial mass from the past up to present, the author has found another approach to the nature of this phenomenon, that is the limited time of all processes of energy exchange. In the mechanics, the finiteness of the time of energy exchange leads to the motion of the body with the limited acceleration. It does prove the portion between the potential field force and the motion acceleration of the body in the pot…

this is just a simple not so well written theory i came up with one afternoon... the big bang theory states that all life was created after a single atom implodes, a black hole is a lot of mass pushed down to a single point, now if we think of the mass in that one point as the same kind of atom in the big bang theory then wouldn't it make sense, if space and time were to be thought of as layers, that multiple universes exist in our own.... well is just a though, not written very well though.... can anyone write this up a little better, or disprove, or prove it, or add some facts to help this along.

Black Light Power was recently confirmed by Rowan University to produce far more calories than possible for the given hydrogen impregnation in a 5KW reactor. The hydrogen and catalyst are brought up to 200C at which point the gas combusts and produces more heat than Rowan chemists can account for with standard chemistry. BLP has had difficulty procuring a patent because they failed to recognize the contribution of exclusion fields also known as Casimir cavities or any other quantum effects all of which they consider antiethical to their Grand Unified theory. on May 8th 2008 Cal-Tech doctors Haisch and Moddel were awarded a patent for a streamlined device with far more pot…

  5. I've been watching youtube videos of Richard Dawkins lately, especially his arguments against Intelligent Design. One in particular is his openness to the possibility of multiple universes to explain the bizaar fact that our universe seems to have been set just right for the possibility of life to have evolved. I'm sure most of you are familiar with this: all the basic constants of the universe - the mass of electrons, the gravitational constant, the speed of light, etc. - are of such precise values that, should they have turned out to be even the slightest bit off, life as we know it in the universe would have been impossible. It is as though the parameters of the univer…

String theory postulates that there are more than three spacial dimensions, I forget exactly how many (it's been a while since I read up on the theory) but is it 11 more dimensions or 11 dimensions in total, or something like that? Anyway, it's been suggested that the reasons these extra dimensions can exists without us knowing about them could be because they're curled up on themselves and are really really small. Dark Matter is supposed to account for about 75% or so of the mass of the Universe that we can't detect, what if the reason we can't detect it is because it's confined to these other dimensions within the Universe? In an analogy of a 2-d creature be…

Quarks In Science Science is conducted by observation, study, and prediction. There's a problem, scientists have applied to many predictions to outer space that it has grown into a system of lies. Lets go back to 1916 when Einstein published General Relativity. He created mathematical formula's, and designed predictions all with out any knowledge of how the universe works. Now there's a problem with math, all math is a language. A language that's good for measurement. You can build a house, a car, or a spaceship. But you cannot explain how space, or even life works with mathematical formula's. Things like Bekenstein-Hawking radiation, laugh in the face of s…

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28506976/ Without too much comment really. Apparently the latest woolly thinking & frantic Back-Pedalling says that - and this is a quote from the article - The finding suggests that the molecular gas at the center of the Milky Way from which the stars form is denser than previously thought. The higher density gas makes it easier for the self-gravity of the condensing cloud to overcome the strong pull of the black hole and to collapse to form new stars. What????!?!??!?!:eek::eek:

I was involved in an exchange last year over interpreting a small, positive cosmologic constant (CC, or [math]\Lambda[/math]). I tried to locate it but let's just start again. I say such a term corresponds to an intrinsic, positive pressure, such as I interpreted as manifest in the fractional photon population, or quantum zero-point field. I believe one of the blue-stars here dismissed this because the sign was wrong. I say not! The whole field equation reads: [math] {R^a}_b - \frac 1 2 R{g^a}_b + \Lambda {g^a}_b = - \frac {8\pi G } {c^2} {T^a}_b [/math] . When we construct the source terms on the right-hand side (RHS) the diagonals are:[math] <\rho c^2, -P,-P…

  10. it has been proposed by acredited physicist that there could be infinite universes could it be that nothing is (infinitly) long or wide yet just infinite. i mean the only thing infinite could be change. I propose we rethink the ideas of boundries or peremeters. if the uncertainty principle proposes that we dont know were or when then dose this not give heed to the idea that uncertainty itself is infinite possibilty ergo inf universes?or the possibility of. And the only thing infinite is change.

There is nothing that is somewhere as in a space that contains nothing, but can there be nothing that is nowhere? Ignoring the matter in the universe for the moment could the universe be a whole lot of nothing that is somewhere having originally come from a nothing that was nowhere?

For twenty years I have been developing a theory of particle structure based on a single elementary particle and a single elementary force. When I thought that I had something fit for publication a paper was submitted to the European Journal of Physics and was dismissed with the phrase 'this is not science’ . Science Forums dismissed it as ‘speculation and numerology’ and Physics Forums summed up their rejection with ‘your paper does not contain anything that is new, you have not said anything that is not already well known’. None of the three were prepared to give or debate the reasons behind these comments. Subsequent conversations with academics at a social gathering …

if our universe worked like this at the quantum level. From one angle certain events are possible/impossible, but if you rotated the angle of observation, the perspective shift might form "trick of the eye" qualities or patterns, which alter the relevant cause-and-effect mechanisms to fit the new physics allowable by the dimensions of this illusion as if it were real.

Well, dont worry, I'm not here to pedal my "latest and greatest" nor am I asking you to buy anything. All I ask is that you read the following with an open mind and comment on it with an open mind. Flamers and trolls need not apply. In 1901 Nikola Tesla won 2 patent for "Apparatus for the Utilization of Radiant Energy" and "Method of Utilizing Radiant Energy." The following is a detailed explanation of this system and how it works. I'm sure many of you have come across this before and if not, I though…

I am impressed with authoring on Warp Engines, but would like to offer an alternative of what I see as a dark matter engine - Dark Matter Engine . It is conceptual, and does not assume warping, light speed or otherwise. It it summerized as follows - "To create and manipulate a Black Body Radiator within a chamber in order to create propulsion from directing its radiation. Within the engine's chamber, a heating element ( based on design ) is used with the absolute cold of space. This is to create the black body radiator within the chamber. The radiation from the radiator is to be compressed and directed magnetically to faciliate a direction of heat flow of the hea…

Using mathematical models to help prove a theory is a way to break down the logic of what the brain has already discovered. It is a test for finding errors in thought. I beleive it's possible, although improbable, that somebody out there may be able to use common everyday observations to leap to ground-breaking implications for physics without first doing anything with math (because the brain has already done this as a part of it's innate abilities). Therefore, for a few people math may be more of a hinderance than a tool for making progress (because math is slow and akward). It is also noteworthy to mention that few people with great mathematical proficien…
