Pseudoscientific or speculatory threads belong here.

Speculations Forum Rules

The Speculations forum is provided for those who like to hypothesize new ideas in science. To enrich our discussions above the level of Wild Ass Guesswork (WAG) and give as much meaning as possible to such speculations, we do have some special rules to follow:

  1. Speculations must be backed up by evidence or some sort of proof. If your speculation is untestable, or you don't give us evidence (or a prediction that is testable), your thread will be moved to the Trash Can. If you expect any scientific input, you need to provide a case that science can measure.
  2. Be civil. As wrong as someone might be, there is no reason to insult them, and there's no reason to get angry if someone points out the flaws in your theory, either.
  3. Keep it in the Speculations forum. Don't try to use your pet theory to answer questions in the mainstream science forums, and don't hijack other threads to advertise your new theory.

The movement of a thread into (or out of) Speculations is ultimately at the discretion of moderators, and will be determined on a case by case basis.

Well lately I have heard a lot about 2012. I have heard 3 different stories and have been presented with lots of so called evidence. These are the 3 thoeries: -Planet X will cause all sorts of disturbences when it comes into close quarters with our solar system. It's large gravitational field being the main cause. Apparently a large body has been detected a few billion miles out. It also seems our sattelites have experienced wierd gravitational anomilies lately. -In the centre of our universe is a black hole, from this black hole extends a thin disk-like gravitational field (the galactic belt). Apparently our solar system orbits the black hole as well as oscilatin…

I think, without any evidence, at the least indirect evidence. That its safe to assume that existence or more specifically the nature of reality is perhaps all a great illusion to keep us playing the ultimate game. And even though it seems so plainly obvious that none of it is an illusion to any degree since we can physically effect ourselves with it and influence things within it. However it could be just that which makes the illusion so great, like the matrix. An illusionary-game hypothesis would possibly explain one of the greatest mysteries of nature, which is why there are so many particles. As well as why everything seems so complicated with all of what science has …

  4. Evolution has never been observed. Saying species evolved over millions of years is a faith statement and is not the scientific method. Science is knowledge from observation. If you believe you have empirical evidence that evolution has been observed. Please put it up. I am not talking about words i am talking about video footage or a photo. I am willing to pay £10 to anyone that has a photo or video evidence of macroevolution taking place.

The LHC Project. I completely understand what they are attempting to find. It will result in massive FAIL. (already has) All the time and billions spent on building something that will never prove anything worth knowing. I am certain that within the next ten years the whole thing will be disassembled and sold for scrap. Then they will use the place for some expensive fancy Condominiums. In the mean time... somebody's making a ton of money on it.

I was reading up on the infamous {money pit} on nova scotia, oak island mystery and i found it quite compelling as to the acclaimed people that invested in this, and still nothing has turned up really. From what i read the whole thing is shrouded in mystery, from pirate gold to alien space craft landing zones. What got me was the way it was built to literly be unobtainable and so far it has. The speculation is also that nothing is down there just a nothingless pit. But when drilling through multiple platforms they discoverd gold flakes and supposedly a stone tablet-rock with ancient markings of some sort. So from beginning to end i think this definitely worth looking alit…

Let's suppose that negative mass exists and that it responds by being repulsed by other matter rather than attracted. So in our galaxy there is a lot more regular mass but there is also some negative mass. Again, a big supposition (and yes I realise that even if there had been, it would have been flung out into deep space long ago). Would the total gravitational effect of the galaxy be based on the positive mass minus the negative mass, and therefore the galaxy would still have an overall attractive quality, or if the negative mass were arranged in such a way as to block the gravitational 'waves' could it actually repulse other galaxies. So say a star is surrounded by…

Bacterial (Prokaryote) lateral-transfer (Conjugation) of DNA genes (Plasmids) represents "proto-Sexual reproduction" Plasmids are pieces of DNA, that bacteria incorporate into their own genome: Such seems superficially similar, to (lysogenic) bacteriophage virus DNA, which enters bacterial cells, and is incorporated into the cell's internal functionings. Perhaps Plasmids underlie the Eukaryotic transition to diploid-ism, representing some sort of "proto-sexual reproduction" ?? A major research effort to develop a cure for diabetes has hit a roadblock which has not yet been explained. To cure type 1 diabetics, transplanting a whole pancreas or pancreatic beta cells exposed to the immune system is fairly ineffective, since the initial autoimmune disease which causes diabetes in the first place persists to damage the replacement islets, which have to be additionally protected against conventional rejection by highly toxic immunosuppressive drugs which are more damaging to the body than diabetes itself is. The shortage of donor islets and pancreatic tissue is also so extreme that even if the procedure worked perfectly, fewer than 1% of diabetics …

Here you will find the story of the U.S. Air Force craft - a triangular shaped craft called the TR-3B. Questions to follow. I found this here: http://www.darkgovernment.com/tr3b.html But if you Google it, this same exact story is all over the internet: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=The+TR-3B+is+Code+named+Astra.+The+tactical+reconnaissance+TR-3B+ " The TR-3B is Code named Astra. The tactical reconnaissance TR-3B first operational flight was in the early 90s. The triangular shaped nuclear powered aerospace platform was developed under the Top Secret, Aurora Program with SDI and black budget monies. At least 3 of the billion dollar plus TR-3Bs were flying by 199…

  12. Hi, I'm a real armchair scientist and my scientific knowledge is based largely on fervent web searches / books / TV shows rather than proper education, so forgive me if the following is completely absurd! I've been attempting to learn about subatomic particles, specifically how the Pauli Exclusion Principle affects them. From what I've read, fermions with the exact same attributes cannot occupy the same space at the same time. So, how does this work with black holes? Could it be that the gravitational forces are so great that time becomes infinite within the event horizon, thus allowing all particles to occupy a single subatomic 'space'? Or could the fermions …

Proof of God: Before beginning we must fully understand which methods and techniques can be defined as proof in the modern era, and what route we should take to verify the scientific or pseudo-scientific theories and hypothesises. There are three modes of observation: Mental; examination through the mind, Physical; examination through the body, and Empirical; examination through the self (both the mind and body). The physical mode of surveillance tends to be the most common, where things can only be proven through corporeal evidence – whereas the mental mode of study is infrequent and frowned upon, where things can only be proven through psychological means. The rares…

Your refusal to be told you’re WRONG is Pathetic. If you have serious doubts about electricity… go stick your finger in a light socket. WHY…WHY WHY…would anyone exclude something that RULES on planet earth. WHY…WHY… WHY…would anyone think that electricity doesn’t exist throughout the entire universe. Does Earth have some kind of special unique physics? NO. The Einstein crowd has that covered. I will leave you silly buffoons to your follies in virtua…

How does the Electric universe theory explain time dilation(an observed fact). Time dilation was predicted long before it was observed. In fact, it is so easy to derive that you can do it with minimal algebra skills. Now, let's see a derivation of time dilation using Electric Universe since Relativity is such nonsense. Relativity has an equation for it already, so when you derive your formula, the two can be compared. The comparison could even be tested. Go on and do a derivation for us, Just the Facts; it is the first step toward you being taken seriously. And please don't reply to this with a post that gives swansont BINGO.

I believe I'm in the correct forum for this thread. It is Modern, Theoretical about the Physics of light. So... I believe light is a plasma phenomenon. The light travels through stimulated plasma and travels as far as the source will sustain. It is the overall strength from the source that determines how far… and how fast the light travels. There is no “Speed Limit” to light. It is a reaction process. Like a child on a swing. The harder you push, the faster they go. The brightness, distance and speed light travels is variable depending on this factor. The reaction is to the heat created by the source. The more heat, the more light it makes. It is only plasma afte…

  19. I'm going to go the opposite direction of Stephen Hawking and bet that by the end of this year, we will have a generally accepted theory that unifies relativity and quantum mechanics. I will also predict that there will be an explosion of related scientific discoveries over this year and the next few. In previous great years in the history science, there have always been few people working on the cutting edge of science, relative to the number of scientists working today, and the world took a long time to catch up. Today, there are so many brilliant minds who have a hundred years' worth of understanding of modern physics, who are ready for the next level of puzzles th…

I'm not sure whether anybody watches the news regularly but I've noticed that the President of the United States of America always has the same hair-style whenever I turn the TV on. It's always short, he doesn't let his hair grow long and free. I bet he'd need to have frequent hair-cuts to keep his hair short all the time, but why does he do this exactly? Is it a medical condition? Or does he keep it short because he doesn't want to look more 'foreign' and cause him to potentially lose votes in the US? Does anyone actually have the answer to this question? If not, what does everyone think? What's with his short hair?

Greetings! As a teenager I developed a treat, I did not have before. I clearly remember the difference between then and after. I know, you will not believe me, but I would still like to share my experience, if anyone would be interested in my words. I noticed my body has a system of muscles, that, how can I explain, make me change my mood. They run right underneath the skin forming a coordinate system formed from vertical and horizontal stripes. I can feel them. They help me concentrate even within my body. All people have this system, I am sure, yet I became aware of it. It is not a belief, it is awareness of it, spontanously born in me in my teens. Before, I was…

Good Day to all. Respectfully…. I don’t know anyone here at this site. Nothing personal is meant by these remarks. I try to remain friendly and respectful to all. I have been at too many various forums to be too concerned about what happens at anyone of them. I do like this site…. so far. I find it quite unfortunate that in some cases the Moderators at forums like this too often think of themselves as the Great Gate Keepers of science. They attempt to keep out any ideas that aren’t in Lock Step with their own beliefs, or of the so called majority. Instead of being “FREE THINKERS” they become more like Nazis trying to maintain the accepted status quo. They…

  23. The expansion of spacetime is commonly called "The Big Stretch" (Carroll & Ostlie. Intro. Mod. Astrophys.), and is often likened to the blowing up of a balloon. Musing naively from the analogy, balloons only blow up, when something provides an internal pressure, in excess of the surroundings. Speculation: The closed "3-Sphere" of spacetime is being "blown out like a balloon", by a radiation of "hyper-particles", emanating from "interior Hyperspace" (the hyper-space topogically inside of the hyper-sphere of spacetime). These "hyper-particles" impinge upon the "inside surface" of spacetime. As they "rain down" on spacetime, they produce a "pitter-pa…

  24. Allegation (?): Enzymes are "spring-loaded", storing Mechanical Potential Energy (MPE). When an enzyme binds with a reactant, the "spring-loaded catch-mechanism" is tripped, "trapping" the reactant into the enzyme's active binding site. This "clamping" process imparts the enzyme's stored MPE into the chemical bonds of the reactant, thereby supplying some significant fraction of the Activation Energy (AE) required to run the relevant chemical reaction (MPE --> AE). Then, the "clamped" reactants bind, into their new chemical combination, which has allot lower total energy. So much energy is released, in their (exergonic) reaction (RE), that the new chemical compound …
