Speculations

Pseudoscientific or speculatory threads belong here.

Speculations Forum Rules

The Speculations forum is provided for those who like to hypothesize new ideas in science. To enrich our discussions above the level of Wild Ass Guesswork (WAG) and give as much meaning as possible to such speculations, we do have some special rules to follow:

  1. Speculations must be backed up by evidence or some sort of proof. If your speculation is untestable, or you don't give us evidence (or a prediction that is testable), your thread will be moved to the Trash Can. If you expect any scientific input, you need to provide a case that science can measure.
  2. Be civil. As wrong as someone might be, there is no reason to insult them, and there's no reason to get angry if someone points out the flaws in your theory, either.
  3. Keep it in the Speculations forum. Don't try to use your pet theory to answer questions in the mainstream science forums, and don't hijack other threads to advertise your new theory.

The movement of a thread into (or out of) Speculations is ultimately at the discretion of moderators, and will be determined on a case by case basis.

I wasn't going to post this as a thread but instead of finding a way to forget the idea I've found one that might be plausible. I would have posted this in the Speculation thread but thought it at least deserved some critical review. The proposal is that nuclear detonation in a gravitational FoR produces a dark-matter micro-bh by transferring charge to mass. Rather than provide speculations regarding kinetic energy, time dilation and charge I would propose the following thought experiment? What would be produced if a falling nuclear detonation were entirely magnetically contained? I take no offense if this is moved to the Speculation thread

A Steady State Universe A Steady State Universe is possible to hypothesise, but requires: 1. The elimination of some currently held hypotheses, which become manifest as contrary to; 2. The acceptance of a finite set of new hypotheses. These new hypotheses are as follows: There are two fundamental particles of matter, the proton and the electron. Each fundamental particle of matter has an antiparticle which is distinguished by having an opposite charge and properties associated with this charge. Outside of this, the question of type (matter or antimatter) is entirely relative to the type of the fundamental particles of the observer. There is no …

Hi I had an idea that might interest some people here, and I would like to have some comment on that idea. There is a possibility that someday we will find a comet heading to earth and we will try to deviate it so it miss the earth. There are many senario's proposed, but mine is so simple: Take a big mass of nuclear fuel and crash it on one of the pole of the comet. Make it crash at a speed so the mass will penetrate between 10 and a 100 meter. The nuclear mass is subcritical so it wont detonate, but massive enough to come to a temperature of around 1000 Celsis. The interior of the comet is mostly water ice and the water will turn into steam that will exit by the en…

  5. I think the term ASTROLOGY as been polluted by modern horoscopes which I have no time for, One astronomical phenomena that comes to mind is the star of Bethlehem(super nova?) This event played a big part in the christian world. We do not yet understand our universe enough to yet say that Astrology plays no part in human events, We know the sun does. Planets/stars emit fields of energies which bombard earth everyday, do these effect us in ways we yet do not understand or have forgotten? Astrology as played a large role in shaping humanity. It should not be dismissed now because we think we have all the answers.

  6. Introduction As we watch various science fiction shows, sitcoms, and as I could name on to infinite possible activities as stated, you've all heard the famous theory of time, or perhaps has been mentioned at least once in our lives: Time travel. Now, time travel is not as sophisticated as it looks or perhaps sound. Actually, it is pretty simple. While to some, traveling through time, or perhaps back to the past or into the future, is somewhat filled with paradoxes and might just knock you out, is very easy to get past and explain this. Speed of Light While some argue that travelling at the speed of light is an important essence to traveling through time, and othe…

This paradox is pretty confusing, or is it? The grandfather paradox simply explains that, if we kill our grandfather(before sex), we would simply live on. But wait, what happens to the grandfather? To me, my hypothesis is the grandfather will disappear and another one will appear. But what happens if we didn't kill him, but instead we killed all his sperm? That means we wont exist, that means a new one will appear right. But to my opinion, no. My hypothesis of what probably will happen is the old grandfather will still be living, but another grandfather will be born into the world. Why? Because the grandfather hasn't died so he won't disappear but he also can't make love …

Introduction Are we already travelling at the speed of light; But in frames? For instance, as I move my hand or perhaps walk towards a friend of mine, the future, perhaps me already there with my friend, is actually a frame of reality. Picture this, a flip book, and as you flip through it extremely quickly, but you stop suddenly; and then flip to the end of the book, you would see a future frame; and that is what this theory is about. You can travel at the speed of light but the frames could go haywire and burn out. But perhaps, we already are; this theory has possibly infinite frames, as we are going throughout our lives. For instance, if you're sitting on a chair, ther…

Hey guys. I guess I'm wrong with this random theory about time, but since everyone here is smarter than I am I was wondering if anyone could see if this theory is wrong, or right. Here it goes. I have been thinking about time for a while now, and how it works. I kept thinking about how time is affected by speed & gravity. Anyway the theory is that time might be the limitation of how fast everything moves, and there might even be a time barrier. With the 'time barrier' I am referring to c, as nothing is apparently faster.

As we learn more about time travel we have to familiarise with paradoxes, such as the grandfather, or parental paradoxes. But here's some paradox and theories made by me to mess with your mind. Are challenged enough to solve these paradoxes with great ease? Limour/Limited Colour Paradox: Can you think of a new colour not yet discovered? Laziness Paradox: If someone states, "I am too lazy to sleep", is it actually true? Matter Split Paradox: If I were to get a piece of matter, such as cake or a rod, and repeatedly cut it into half, is it infinite, and would it run to as stop? Assuming we cut it even though it is an atom thick. Fundigm Boredom Paradox: …

  12. Before arguing that it's possibly the most intellectual theory, and I should shut up or shut it, then just hear me out. Parallel universes are thought as infinite, and as it could go on forever and beyond space and time are other universes that perhaps defies the laws of physics and logic cannot be. Pigs shall fly in one universe, so on and so forth. But what are universes in? Are there a spheric figure or cubic shape that stands on time and space itself? Universes are actually thought to be infinite and is creating several stars and is expanding, and is actually incalculable of its diameters and shape due to our current technology, but if there were universes and they be…

I don't know if this question belongs on this forum so feel free to move it to the Trash Can if you want but I have often wondered about this: How would have our history (especially the history of space exploration) have been different if the Earth had a moon with a breathable atmosphere? I think that would have changed it dramatically.

PHYSICS OF OPTICS AND TIME Any corrections, different point of view and criticism will be appreciated pls. ABSTRACT: A brief proposition on the nature of light waves and how it affects the measurement of observers. For example, when a disturbance is created in the waves of light due to the motion of an object, this disturbance does not just die out of existence. It goes on to affect the observation and measurements of all observers who depend on the light waves for their observation and measurement. This change in the physical property of the light waves can make physical measurements of different frames to appear relative depending on the magnitude of the disturbance …

when an object moves from point say A to point B , it disappears at that position which is A and appears in position B, it disappears to become energy and appears again as mass, this process is not noticeable because atoms disappear and appear in sequence, if we think of motion as above , i.e an atom moving by jumping from point a to point b, it will change into energy = mc^2 adding to it the energy which it possesses by force. friction: I said above an atom will change to energy at each jump and to mass again , and the total energy will be: mc^2+ 0.5 m v^2 , we notice that the kinetic energy is only (0.5*m*v^2) the quantity (mc^2) appears and disappears in something …

The positive mass is how much matter there is and the negative mass is how much energy disappeared from vacuum to form mass , it is possible to have negative energy , in relativity energy comes out of mass by the square of speed of light increament here I would like to present the equation in opposite direction i.e huge energy produces little mass by the reciprocal of the square of the speed of light factor , by the idea that mass was obtained by making huge work, then the same energy is released by the same equation. by the arguement above when mass was made by work done , something left which is the negative mass qauntity, it is the same as when collecting heat e…

  17. A new study by Oxfam found that the richest 1% of the world's population will own 50% of the planet’s wealth by the year 2016! It shows the ever widening gap between the rich and the poor in capitalist countries. This contradiction is prevented from exploding through the following means: 1) an abundant technical capacity that is spent in the production and distribution of waste, planned obsolescence, environmental destruction, military products, space junk, cheap gadgets, low-cost technology, and affordable luxury goods that are spread to the broad strata of the Earth’s population, thereby increasing the overall standard of living but at the same time concealing the radic…

  18. Do you believe it possible for human technology one day in the distant future to be capable of preventing the heat death of the universe? I personally see no reason why we could or would not. Likely, humans will eventually understand how/when/why matter and energy initially originated from without breaking the first law of thermodynamics (perhaps by starting their own Big Bangs in sub-universes).

  19. THE HOLE’S “FOOT-PRINT”, GO BACK IN TIME! EXISTS ANY RELIABLE DETECTOR WATCHING THIS PHENOMENA? The aim of this post, for me is to grasp the “natural concept”, caused by the ” weirdness “ of moving “things” back in time. As this thing (Hole) is positron, an antimatter particle, some other questions derive: 1- Is it “moving back in time”, “a mode of movement” for whatever antimatter particle? 2- The its given name--- “hole”--- has the same natural meaning as hole = emptiness, nothingness. 3- The DIRAK’s sea, is full of positrons, does this mean that space is charged only with positive charge, or I am wrong? How is it linked (or has it any link) with electric constant…

  20. I wanted some insight on mmy question, i joined a forum just for that, sorry if im off subject......... So im a newbie. My question is about the quantum entangelment and how it corelates to the multivers theory. the theory of a parallel universe does make sence to me, what doesnt make sence is that there is an exact opposite of me, in that universe. the quantum entagelment shows that 2 particles can be connected even at a vast distance and each particle does the oposite or an alternative to what the other particl does. So, since my body is made up of millions and millions of these particles, what explains how my particles are assembled together in the paralell univers…

Hello to everyone This is my first time here (or anywhere for that matter) as an observer of our science community. I crave for knowledge, develop my own theories, and I am certainly curious about what the general circulating beliefs are in relation to what surrounds us. So I will start by saying, that my intention is to start a thread on a very controversial subject (in my perspective) theorized by Newton. And I aim to smash the idea that you can not travel faster than light, and the association of light-speed to time. This may be an extended discussion, so I first want to know if there is interest to get into this before I spend any time on it, so I don't en…

I was watching Suskind (string theory and M theory, lesson one) describing a Feynman diagram of the collision of two pi mesons into a Rowe meson, then a quick decay back into two pi mesons. Then he described a single pi meson changing into a Rowe meson with another quick return to the single pi meson. He went on further to explain the math describing the second reaction was not a lower-equivalent of the first to the degree one would have expected. If this is a correct interpretation of the lesson, does that indicate the 2 pi mesons of the first experiment merge and become a single "double" Rowe meson? How does this square with the uncertainly principle against two particl…

I believe that we are in half of a double universe. That we are in something like a ball. If one side of the ball is squeezed and there is a rubber band on the middle, one side shrinks and the other side expands. When one universe shrinks, it compacts together and eventually gathers enough energy in one place to cause what we call "The Big Bang." Once the Big Bang happens, the universe that shrank begins to grow with the force of the explosion. This process takes billions of trillions of years to complete in this theory of mine. However, if this is incorrect, how did the universe have enough energy to cause the Big Bang to begin with? This theory is likely as far as I am …

My names Ryan, I'm 18, living in the UK and attending College studying Software Development. I have been interested for a very long time in Quantum Physics after studying a little in school and later watching many video's. After time away I always seem to find a new video, article or something related that brings me back to looking at it again. And well 2 days ago I got drawn back in again. I was on youtube watching some technology video's and saw a quantum physics video. After about 20-30 minutes it finished talking about d…

  25. If Dark matter accounts for the majority of space, can we theorize that matter within this space are in analogy, "like a gas bubble in water". Contained fields of matter, held in place by dark matter. And that this containment is inverse, Thats to say that instead of the force being from the core of the matter outward (Gravity), it is inverse, from the borders of it's interaction"s with the surrounding dark matter, inward. All planets and it's various materials, are but bubbles of elements and compounds and other forces like electromagnetic force, contained in the fabric of dark matter. Their particular inversion force, can be directly attributed to their…
