Why can't people post ideas that could seem all like garbage to "smarter" people or community based on the fact they can't do the math to prove anything when i thought science was all about speculations, challenging ideas, theories, sharing an idea, helping others resolve someone's question that they don't know the answer to. something that sounds like garbage or impossible can somehow have truth in it look at many scientist that got laughed at and bam we use their science today. way back people thought we were the center of the universe or the earth was flat and the people that got laughed at saying the world is round and we are not the center of the universe. you may th…

My timezone is GMT and there is currently no allowance for summertime. I have tried all the settings I can find, but the listings persistently show timings of posts to be 1 hour ahead, whatever settings I choose. How do I set the time correctly please?

I was looking at the ban list and I noticed that many of them are sockpuppets(different accounts of same user) of original users who had been banned. Couldn't the IP simply be banned or are the users simply using multiple access points(I am a customer of IP.Board so I am assuming that users can be IP banned)?

Posted Today, 10:47 PM Rajnish Kaushik, on 16 Jan 2014 - 10:35 PM, said: should i b getting this? ! Moderator Note Anything addressed to moderators should NOT appear in a thread dedicated to some other discussion — that's off-topic, and hijacking the thread. A more appropriate place would be in "comments, suggestions and support" and should probably include a more specific description of the issue, such as when you posted it and where it was posted. Please confine discussion here to addressing the OP. (For what it's worth, posting just to say you will post something isn't really a great example of a quality, on-topic post.) I shouldn't have to say…

i feel like the moderaters on this site dont really care about the people that post and just think they can run everything and rule everyone. i will rant what i want when i want because that is my human right. anyway i dont think you can become a self taught theoretical physicist without some help. study some theories and works of theoretical physicist. if you already a physicist then learn just the components that make up the theoretical part.

For some reason I am not getting notifications when someone PM's me. Also, is there a way to get a notification if someone replies to a thread that you started. Thanks for reading, or replying

Hello all, It has been over a month since I've joined Science Forums, but never have I realized how awesome this Forum is. Up in New England, because it has been snowing, I have been stuck in my house. Because of that, I have gotten back into my hobbies, remote controlled cars, programming, and a new hobby, called Arduino(that I would have never even known about if it weren't for this forum) So, to tune up my RC's, I head over to my RC universe forum, that I hadn't been on for over a year. I had never noticed it, but it had over 500 Forums!!! Way to big, I had to use the center mouse wheel to scroll to the way bottom. And with that amount of forums, you w…

Anybody know what these 'appropriate' channels are? Why is it okay to publically criticise a member's contribution but not for a member to publically criticise a Mod's contribution? They should either both be public or both be private.

Hi guys, To day I don't want to talk about issues or problems but about a mobile app for science forums. I'm not a programmer or some thing like creating apps but I think there are so many best guys to do this. So, Why aren't you guys create android or iOS app for science forums like physics forums. It would be cool for us to surf around.

I just invited several of my science-minded friends to "Like" the SFN Facebook page (because I think this is a great community, and would like to share it), only to find that no one has posted anything on it since 2010! Now, I'm not one of those that has Facebook open in my browser 24/7 (honestly), but it seems like the administrators of this site should want to generate as much support/interest as possible, no? Facebook is, in fact, one of the most relevant ways to do so nowadays...just sayin' I am of the opinion that we need more scientific thinkers on this planet, and this site is an open door into the world of science (preaching to the choir, surely). Let's …

I've run into a problem recently where I go to edit a post, and when I switch editing modes and back, the quote tags moved. i.e. text that was originally quoted is no longer included in the "quoted" section. Also, all of the markup tags appear (background, size, color, etc.) in the text body. It's a mess.

I was thinking, could there be an implementation of a feature where when a user posts a post with a Latex equation and if the equation is wrong(let's say people make minor errors without knowing it) and instead of having to make a post saying the mistake in the equation the user who sees the error can just click on the code(or some other mechanism) in the post and edit it from there and give reasoning to why it was edited. Of course, the user who edits it must be a certain rank, but it would save posts. I don't know if it would be possible, but it is an idea.

I think that moderators suppress discussion on some things because they are unorthodox, I think that this forum suppresses your right of free speech. I believe in Timecube and I understand it, and moderators here are inexperienced with Timecube--they don't know anything about it, they haven't gave it a chance, and they call it stupid, like children, blocking it off from the rest of us. We cannot discuss it and give it true reconciliation because the moderators suppress our right to, just because we might prove them false, on the offhand. Some things may be hidden from you to keep you submissive... -wisdom.

These 1-2 minute load times for pages are making the site unusable. I thought maybe it was a temporary problem, but it's been happening consistently for several weeks now.

Why is it that only the Ignorant people are allowed to judge, move topics, give warnings and abuse their power on this site? Everything, well, almost everything of mine has been judged, removed or abused because of lack of an Understanding in the Field. If a person is not Ignorant in a certain Field, how does he/she not have an Understanding of it? And if a person is Ignorant in the Field, why is he/she allowed to remove, judge or abuse without any consequences? I Understand this is "your site" and I have to follow "your rules." "Abusing power will only hurt yourself." Shouldn't a man/woman with the most Knowledge,Wisdom and Understanding be the one judging other…
