Hello Everyone, I'm currently an IT Recruiter/Project Manager looking to go back to school for Computer Science, more specifically software engineering. Currently I have a Bachelor's Degree in Business, and eventually want to pursue a MA in Comp Sci. I'm looking for Post-Bach or secondary Bachelor programs to gain some technical knowledge before I try to get into a master's program. I've found programs at UMass and Tufts, http://www.cs.tufts.edu/Other-Graduate-Programs/post-baccalaureate-computer-science-minor.html https://www.cs.umass.edu/content/second-bachelors-degree Was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to where else I could look? I'm …

Hi there, I have an optimization problem and I could really use your help. The problem is related to computer vision and machine learning and it consists in identity matching. I have a person in a video which I represent by a set of features, like color, position in the video, compactness etc. I can follow this person in the video for a while, but then the person interacts with another person and it is impossible to distinguish which person is which. At a later point in time, the two people part ways and I am able to distinguish again the individuals and extract the new set of features for both of them. Now I want to establish the pervious identities of the newly …

Here are the most basic Logic Operations: AND ([math]\wedge[/math]): The intersection of two statements, [math]A \wedge B[/math] is TRUE when A is TRUE and B is TRUE Example: "It's dark blue" = "It is dark [math]\wedge[/math] It is blue" OR ([math]\vee[/math]): The union of two statements, [math]A \vee B[/math] is TRUE when A is TRUE or B is TRUE, or both Example: "Xittenn drinks tea or coffee" = "Xittenn drinks tea [math]\vee[/math] Xittenn drinks coffee" NOT (¬): The negation operator, ¬A is TRUE when A is FALSE Example: "I am not a liar" = "¬ I am liar" Implication ([math]\longrightarrow[/math]): One statement enforce another, [math]A \righ…

Hi all, I’m about to graduate with my bachelor’s in BiomedicalSciences, but I’m not very interested in going to grad school in healthcare. I’mthinking about switching to the field of computer science. While I don’t haveany background in computer science, I spend a lot of time on the computer andthink I could pick up the concepts quickly. One thing I’m worried about though,is that I don’t really consider myself a very creative person. I’m not good atcoming up with ideas and such. I feel I am stronger with retaining informationand applying it through analysis and decision making. Do you think this willhinder me in computer science? Can you guys give me some qualities th…

Is it science fiction to assume that some time in the far distant future, the unpredictable, computers will be so fast and AI programs so advanced that humanity will be able to check all possible combinations of four billion zeros and ones that are needed to store a video, 2 to the 4th billionth combinations and find out which ones make sense. (Assume that about four billion bits are needed for an hour's movie of good quality, the number doesn't matter) Did digital technology, the manipulation, storage and transmission of light and sound with numbers, made the expression: …

Hey guys , how are you ? well, I am creating this topic because I'm starting my studies in fuzzy logic (I am taking a major in computer science here in Brazil) and I would like to hear advices about applications of this kind of logic in the computer sciene field. I have read about neural networks, about intelligent systems (which make use of artificial intelligence resources) and I need something to focus in. My project is to study and understand sice the beginnings, basic concepts and so on, and within ~3 months start trying to create/optimize applications of fuzzy logic in our field. Any opinion/advice/suggestion is appreciated. Thanks in advance

I know there is an "education" section but I felt this was more towards computer science specifically. I currently just started my path towards a Computer Science degree and actually am going towards an Associates of Applied Science first which involves, from what I know, more programming and actually what I am going for is called "Programming Specialist". Computer Science takes a lot of Mathematics and though it is tough it usually is more simple to study for because you can grab a problem from the book and work it out. If that is not enough for you then you can look at or reference another 50 problems regarding that same concept. Because of this the Mathematics part…

I ve been trying to acess some websites at work, but they are blocked via proxy, wich means, the only way you can access the internet is if you type a certain proxy (172.16.0.1, port 8080), at the control panel of your browser. I can only use the internet browser. If I try to change the proxy, to enter the blocked websites, the internet doesnt work, so my question is, Is there a possibility to unblock the websites without changing the proxy configuration? Thanks, avoba

Hi! This is my first topic My name is Miguel Angel, I live in Peru and I applied to the universities listed in the title (Richmond, Oberlin and Kansas) with the Fulbright asociation in Lima. I also applied to others (University of Gonzaga and Kettering Universities), but I believe those three are the best ones. I want to major in Computer Science, and I have been accepted at those universities. I have been reviewing the Computer Science program and departmetns in each of those 3 universities, but I would like to hear opinions about which of those would be best to attend. Which has the best program? Apparently Richmond is the most selective and recognised of the th…

hello everybody I am writing a program in java that draws a square fractal recursively. The program starts by drawing a rectangle in the center of the window (1/4 of the window). Then I need to draw 4 smaller rectangles attached to the corners of the first rectangle. Then I need to draw 3 smaller rectangles attached to the corners to the corners of the previous rectangle and so on. Each one of the succeeding rectangles is half the width and height or the preceding rectangle. The output should be like the picture at the end of the post I am new to computer science so please help even with a pseudo code that can explain the steps and calculations to draw the…

so here's my challange. the first place contestant will recieve 10 american dollars from me. each player will start off with 10000 points. two players will face off at a time, and wager a certian number of points for each turn. the player with the lower wager will win all the wagered points from the player with the higher. however, the average of all wagers must be 100 points for each player. (that is, if i select any 100 bets, i should come up with an average of 100 or more for those bets your program produces.) once a player drops below 100 points, he loses. the game will be elimination style, once you lose, you're out of the contest. here's your function defini…

Hi guys, I'm writing a simple program which takes similar values from a user at the keyboard. But I've run into some issues and I'm not sure why. It MUST be to do with the conversion specifiers but I just can't figure it out :/ Here's the code: /* * File: main.c * Author: daniel * * Created on March 27, 2012, 6:49 PM */ #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include "main.h" #define MAX_LAT 52.75 #define MIN_LAT 51.5 #define MAX_LNG 6.5 #define MIN_LNG 4.75 #define REQ_LAT 0.1 #define REQ_LNG 0.2 /* * This function takes a location value from the user and if any ships are * within 0.1 latitude or 0.2 longitude of this position the func…

i was thinking of posting a programming challange a month, both to help people sharpen their skills and to get some conversation going. would there be interest in this? if so; here's my first programming challenge. most computer people know how to convert numbers to binary, but ternary computers are also possible. my task for you is to write a program that can convert a decimal number to a ternary (base 3), and then be able to preform basic operations with two such numbers; addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. for extra points, also convert a decimal to balanced ternary, and have similar operations with them.

This is a quote from an essay about the history of Project Gutenberg from their website: So, apparently at the time computer time was measured in it's value in money, can anyone tell me what that particular amount would have amounted to in terms of time? Does anyone know how many computers there were at the time? What kind of places had computers? I suppose DARPA (or whatever the acronym is) had them, how many universities had them? Did companies have them?

In the original post we discussed computers being able to use more than just 1s and 0s. The length of computer instructions needed for any digital task would shrink considerably. Now it might be at that point. http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2008/04/scientists-prov "Building an analog computer in which you don’t use 1s and 0s and instead use essentially all shades of gray in between is one of the things we’re already working on," says Williams. These computers could do the types of things that digital computers aren’t very good at –- like making decisions, determining that one thing is larger than another, or even learning.

A very pure idea existed reguarding computation and how to buld an OS that really works, and I've heard about it though a mixture of various sources including information from the premotional materal for Chromebooks and a talk about the idea from the person who coined the turm object oriented. Instead of trying to describe high level properties about this and have a lot of what would be reasonable doubt about it's realisticness, I'm going to show how simple implementation of it could be achieved. I'm a programmer and could implement almost none of this myself, However I don't consider that it would be too complicated for the right group of people. Create a new OS …

I was wondering how 0 to 9 and letters are saved on Microchips physically and read.According to me,these letters and alphabets might be 3D printed on microchips in micro scle or nano scale by removing/digging out Atoms/material wherever we want on nano/micro scale and then read by lasers and mini photo voltaic sensors by reflection of laser beam. There should be frequency and voltage measuring devices for each laser beam output signal.I would like to know more information on this.I was surprised that most computer science graduate professionals graduated from India don't know this.Infact commerce 12th standard students can opt for computer science in India without physics …

Reference :http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claytronics Claytronics is an abstract future concept that combines nanoscale robotics and computer science to create individual nanometer-scale computers called claytronic atoms, or catoms, which can interact with each other to form tangible 3-D objects that a user can interact with. This idea is more broadly referred to as programmable matter.[1] Claytronics has the potential to greatly affect many areas of daily life, such as telecommunication, human-computer interfaces, and entertainment.I will and some people like to know more about such technologies and other related future technologies.

A couple years ago I got in a fight, I got a boxers fracture on my right ring finger and right pinkie. They didn't heal properly, and I don't have very good control over them. Is computer science still a possible career for me? How fast are you required to type in a computer science career?

Greetings! I was working on my current Java program today in Eclipse and got confused with what I had made (I know!) with all of the differences between console and GUI. So, I found a way to have an instance of a console box with GUI, which is exactly what I need. Here is the link : LINK. I have it working, except for one exception. There is a thing that the author of that has written: to change his file of IoEscape to a Try/Catch. I tinkered around, but couldn't figure out how to do that. You will see once you read the article. Please help me get this to work! Thank you in advance! -Briddell
