about 8 months ago i developed muffled hearing in one ear that turned into ringing. then about 2 months ago i began to have a strange situation. at night time when lying back to watch tv i would get very hypersensitive to different noises that would come either on the tv show or in the room i was in that would startle me and make me on edge. i also have had the situation where when i am relaxed at night and trying to go to sleep i will get sudden outbursts of sound in that ear almost like a magnified sound of the ringing that lasts maybe a second. this repeats itself over and over as long as i am lying back in a relaxed state or going to sleep. i have had an mri which has…

Suppose we define 2 vision modus, as a priori function of the brain : modus A : both eyes are use together to count a moving point modus C : every eye is used alternatively, very quickly (CT) , or A seeing at infinity (CI) Then a) if a point is in the region seen by only 1 eye, then S says 1 point, A says 1 point b) if a point is in the region seen by 2 eyes, if focalised, A says 1, S says 2. Is this possible that in split brain operation this could happen ? We could imagine a PNL program to change this, maybe in the corpus. I imagined that A can learn from C modus, that is an object, let say a banknote is not seeable in both eye, that maybe th…

  3. This came up in the IRC channel, BoTox is botulinum toxin with an LD50 in the range of 1ng/kg and is the most toxic substance produced in nature. obviously not something people would pay to have injected into their face... oh wait... so, bearing in mind its toxicity, how much is actually in one of the injections? i tried the obligatory google but was overwhelmed by the guff of beauty sites that make less sense than ydoaps after he's been juggling nuclear waste for too long while eating bags of sugar.

I trust that there are many of you on this board who are in school and majoring in the sciences…especially if you want to get into medicine, and I am sure there are some of you that already are doctors, biologists, and medical researchers… Well I just wanted to get your opinion on something that I have been looking into for the past year and using myself. I am a 2nd year college student at the University of New Orleans and majoring in biology, and hopefully I will be getting into a premed program…but I am still undecided. Anyway, around the time I was 16, I started looking online for anything that could help me get rid of or help me fight a really annoying virus.…

  5. You agree that for male, masturbation up to pollution (orgasm), liberate genetic material....so it's quite forbidden. How about women ? If a woman masturbate, it should not come out ovocytes...so, if there is a liquid, what's this liquid ? Can we find this liquid somewhere ?

To get straight to the point, I got caught in a storm yesterday and got pretty wet and cold. Once I got inside, both my ears were sort of like when you yawn, except permanently. It was like that for most of that day, and at the beginning it was actually painful, although that went away. This morning I got up and my left ear was fine, but my right ear is still experiencing the same thing. I've since figured out that if I hold my breath and try to exhale (ie. elevate the pressure in my head) it helps until I let my breath out, rarely for longer periods. What really helps is if I lean forward, so my head is low. That removes the "open" feeling for up to a minute or two after…

Homeopathic 'remedies' are comprised of WATER. At normal doses, there is literally no medicine in the medicine. The analogy of a pinch of salt in all of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans is a valid estimate. It is mostly administered in pill form, where a drop of water is placed onto a sugar pill, or pure form, where it is sprayed into the mouth or consumed like syrup. Either way, why does anyone buy into this at all? Further, why do I see it in pharmacies?! I mean, I understand why some people may believe in the stuff (the world would be an amazing place if homeopathy was the craziest thing anyone believed in), but how in the hell is it among normal medicine on the shelves…

Hi, I appear to have come down with some sort of minor illness. I have a slightly sore throat, stuffy nose, and mild headaches. I'm not seriously inconvenienced by it in the day, but at night it's near-impossible to sleep for more than half an hour even if I stay up far later than usual. I'm sure some Nyquil would help me sleep through the night, but would it help me get better soon or could it actually slow the healing process? I haven't taken anything yet because I don't mind being rather uncomfortable if it means I'll get better soon, but I'd hate to put myself through unnecessary (though mild) suffering all because of some irrational fear of modern medicine. …

Why was the 60's, 70's, 80's better than now with high cost and shortage of doctors. I hear of long wait times in the ER why is that. Why is the cost so much higher than 30 or 40 years ago

Well, I ****ed up. I have an ear infection, and I've been taking motrin for it. A lot of motrin. STUPID amounts of motrin. I went to the hospital last night for a quick antibiotic prescription, and they gave me even more motrin. About an hour later, I got a nagging ringing sound in my ears. It got louder and louder for about an hour, and this morning it was a little quieter. I'm pretty sure this is the motrin and not the ear infection, because the ringing is in both ears, but the infection is mainly in the right one. Is ototoxic tinnitus permanent?

I have several friends and family members who have diabetes. Because of this I end up getting tipped on meidcal news regarding disease quite frequently. Lately everyone is abuzz about this new medical procedure that is apparently curing diabetes in the majority of patients... as well as high blood preasure, and obesity. It soulnds too good to be true, and I am working my way through the journal articles, but I felt that it is intriguing enough that I would clue folks in here in case they suffer from diabetes and haven't heard of it yet. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/03/080305113659.htm

  21. Hi if there are any M.D.'s out there or told individuals, I am just if anyone could tell me how many hours general surgeons or even specialized surgeons work in an average week? I'm curious because I am interested in this area of medicine, but at the same time I want to have time for other interest in my life. I am just wondering if this is possible. Is it rare to find a surgeon who works a 40-hour week? Thanks for your help! give me a suggestion.

Recent studies have shown that circumcision is correlated with a lower incidence of HIV infection. In addition, follow-up experiments were done in the years 2007 and 2008 which showed that circumcision "reduced the risk of infection of HIV" by 51-60%. However, in all of my research (which I confess is nominal, at best), I cannot find a proposed mechanism. Many circumcision advocates have cited these recent studies as evidence that the health benefits of the surgery outweigh the risks. However, it occurred to me that this might be a case of correlation, not causation, especially if no direct mechanistic cause can be identified. Perhaps those cultures which have a highe…
