Hey guys happy you discussing this, I have notice than from all my friends that recently had kids, where one of the parents have brown eyes and the other blue eyes, the kids all have BLUE EYES, as you know Bb (B=Brown, b=blue) Brown is a dominant gene and in general most of them should have brown eyes. Has anyone else notice this?

While trying to do research for a bio/chem research paper on dislexia, i discovered there is very little imformation on it. So I was woundering if anyone knew something about it. From my own experiances with dislexia I have some idea of it, I beleive it is genetic because I think my mom has it and her dad has it and i have it, but we only have it very slightly, symtoms like difficulty with left and right and confusing p, q, d and b. I have a friend who also is dislexic but he sees letters upside down and has way more trouble reading than anybody in my family so i think that it may be co-dominate trait varying from DD normal, Dd slightly dislexic and dd total dislexia. …

About the researches that have been made how much can we manipulate the genetic code to construct things? such as a monkey of 3 arms, or genetic code mixing.. how much of this is posible. Can the genetic code of diferent kingdoms of life be mixed?

My parents are always saying "Oh, you don't like mushrooms, you must have inherited that from your father's second cousin twice removed!" (maybe I'm exagerating... but still!) But I was led to believe that behavior like that was purely how you were brought up and your surroundings. So my parents told me that they did a test with twins, seperated at birth, to see what they liked/disliked as they grew older. SUPPOSEDLY (since I don't have any sources) the kids liked the same type of toothpaste, the same food, etc. etc. But they were seperated at birth. I don't really believe that, unless I find the research on Google. So here's the question: Is it genetic, or is it your e…

Please forgive me if this topic has been discussed already, but does anybody know if any scientist has attempted at recovering DNA from dinosaur fossils, and compared them with living specimens (like birds, lizard, mammels, etc) to attempt at detecting their closest living relative. And have they used a molecular clock to estimate when their family tress diverged?

Hi, I'm just wondereing if personality is carried in genes, and the way we think. For example, the way we think - do we think in a similar way to out ancesstors?

When looking to some stats, there are an ever increasing number of children with allergies or other illnesses. Since we are sort of trying to cheat evolution in using technology to keep people alive that would have otherwise died or help a couple having difficulty to have children to have children etc... So my question/debate issue is : Does our DNA degrade ? with this i mean that, will our population contain an ever increasing number of individuals with illnesses (including allergies etc...), that could ultimately (or not) lead to the destruction of the species ? I know this is a pretty wild statement, and i am not convinced it is true, i find it just remarkable that …

This is just something that popped into my head. Say there was a way to permanently fuse your DNA with another person's. Would you slowly begin to take on the physical characteristcs of that person?

What do you think of cloning? I have really been thinking about this since I read the synopsis to the new movie Godsend that is coming out with Robert DeNiro. A major part of the movie has to do with cloning a couple's child who is killed by a car and bringing him back. Any thoughts?? Moral, ethical or otherwise?

I have been scouring the net looking for a statistical study (actually, just the results of one) on the proportion of different hair and eye colors among people. So far, I've been able to find virtually nothing. I thought I'd check genetics information, since knowing what genes and what combinations would make the necessary proportions relatively easy to calculate in a classic probability sense, but it appears that researchers aren't absolutely certain about the genes that decide these characteristics yet. I was wondering if anyone here knew of a statistical study I could reference or if there is more specific genetic information I could use to generate probabili…

will the genetic code for identical twins affect their thumb impression? if the genes coding for the identical twins are same then this may be the cause for the same thumb impression isn't it? and because of this there may be difficulty in the forensic findings.

I just heard notions of Dawkins' gene theory (organisms as packages/vehicles for genes). I can't access The Selfish Gene from where I'm at right now, so this question may seem stupid, unbased. If we take the car, we are doing so to go somewhere. If genes are independent mechanisms, then what is their purpose, their goal? Second: how do human properties like creativity, humor, musicality, etc fit in with genes' scheme of survival and replication? Why did genes allow us to develop things like that if it doesn't directly optimize survival chances, or even has a bad effect on survival(altruism)? Thanks

In biology in 10th grade, we were learning about aquiring traits and what not. And someone brought up if your social status can be inherited. I think it can be. But not directly. I mean with like your personality and stuff. Maybe if your parent were 'cool' or what not or 'nerds' would you be one to? your thoughts >

For a brief introduction: I am new to this forum, 14 years old, and to curious for my own welfare, directly in disregard of authority, and bursting with adolescant hormones. To place a grand finale on it all, I am intrigued by science. Now the query: I have come to the conclusion that the homo sapien would fare alot better if they had increased cellullar dedifferentiation, and could regenerate limbs, blood cells, brain cells, ect. This ability has been discovered in adult urodele amphibians, (newts for example), as well as echinoderms. I was unformed by my somewhat reliable readings, that we, those in the bio-tech industry, are quite a distance from actually being …
