  5. Listen to the whole album and try to work out the time signature on each piece. A work of genius. Blue Rondo a la Turk (my fave) the first track on side A is written in both an unusual 9:8 and has a 4:4 side rhythm
  6. And it seems that one must refresh to see it even when posted. But I like the rendering, and loads of extra gadgets on right click. The hover to zoom is very useful for those of us with imperfect vision
  7. \( equation in line \) \[ equation in block \] checking \(F=ma_{centripetal}=mr \omega^2 \) \[ \omega^2=\frac{a_{centripetal}}{r} \] Straight [latex] tags no longer work - although [math] tags apparently do - but it is much quicker to type as above
  8. [math] y = \int f(x) dx [/math]
  9. inline \( y=x^2 \) check \( y=ax^2+bx+c \) display \[ x= \frac{-b\ \pm \sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a} \] \[ y = \int f(x) dx \]

At least for Toyota that might be difficult http://www.toyota-global.com/showroom/emblem/passion/ The old one was really impressive (flying kanji for toyoda)
  11. ... Excellent post as always Mordred. And because I could never contradict you on physics, I will take this opportunity to take a mild shot at your nomenclature It's Yukawa coupling and Higgs (no apostrophe; named after him not his possessive - which would mean anyway that the apostrophe would be after the s ) Now awaiting the Skitt's Law moment...

I have learnt that Forensic no longer means what it used to mean. Forensic means to me "pertaining to the courts of law" and "suitable to being part of the factual pleadings in court" - it seems that through the use of forensic as an adjective in front of words like science and medicine has morphed the meaning such that Forensic now means Forensic Science.* So regarding the discovery magazine article - that may well be the first forensic science but definitely not the first forensic investigation; just off the top of my head Cicero details some forensic investigations (often forensic accountancy) and that would be 1400 years earlier * I also blame CSI and its ilk
  13. ! Moderator Note Tar - which bit of the above mod-note did you not understand? Do not pollute this thread with your poorly understood ideas of cosmology. You will not be warned again
  14. ! Moderator Note Huge diversion in which Tar seemed to challenge theory without background, aim, or reason has been broken off to speculations. If we are discussing Philosophy then do so - using misrepresentations and shoddy understandings of current theory in an attempt to shed light on the philosophy of science is doomed; if you start your logical argument with an incorrect premise then all that follows is pretty worthless. Please stick to the topic - and use examples you actually understand otherwise members will, unsurprisingly, take issue with the abuse of the theory rather than the point it was meant to illustrate Do not respond to this moderation within the thread
  15. Mantraphilter has been banned for a combination of reasons; hijacking, abusing staff, and a request for us to "kick him off this site for good"

“For instance, on the planet Earth, man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much—the wheel, New York, wars and so on—whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man—for precisely the same reasons.” Douglas Adams - The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy
