why i can't delete my account? i don't ask my messages to get removed i was thinking i could delete my account and then create a new one, using the same email address so i guess i would first have to change the email address of my current one, then drop it then i could create a new account using my real email address if you propose to manually do it, please don't but add a button so everyone could i think keeping only posts but deleting username/avatar/signature etc, would be good.

I have no skill here, but it's an idea. It seems like it would be possible to create a robo-mod, separate of the forum software, that would take whitelist or blacklist requests from a pinned thread. It probably will need to un-delete accidentally deleted threads. For security, run from any system or VirtualSystem or any network or 5Gbs/month hotspot. It only needs the scripts and the account password. It would navigate with the keyboard: Tab + Enter to navigate; arrows and Ctrl+C/V to copy/paste thread titles; Ctrl+Alt+T to open Ubuntu Terminal and then to paste posts or titles into Bash scripts, scripts which then decide whether to repeat the same macro or execute a new macro that will execute a new script, for example a script that deletes the second or third thread in All Activity after the top ones have been whitelisted. Possible hurdles: it will need the power to un-delete threads that are not whitelisted in time, or else it cannot run constantly and run on a whitelisting principle --it shouldn't accidentally delete a whitelisted thread if it doesn't have to reload the page, unless it isn't whitelisted in time--; it may need to ignore troll posts by simultaneously copying the username or user status and the user's posted content, which are in separate boxes; the robo-moderator would preferably have forum privileges limited to deleting or undeleting threads; OR ELSE, it needs a very clever algorithm for combining the lists via commands like Bash diff command; Ubuntu Terminal, which would take script prompts, only takes paste commands via mouse and not keyboard. *KEYBOARD NAVIGATION: mouse navigation would have to respond to differences in box size, but the keyboard can hit Tab 27 times or 27 + 5*Z number of times.

How do you delete your forum account? I can't find the option anywhere. Thanks.

Delete my account and all my posts, please.

Last I heard, Admins were going to change the account name, but leave the posts up so the threads make sense. Seems to be the best compromise. The name is obviously important and personal, and we don't want the others who participated to look silly, and we can stand by our commitment not to delete posts made in good faith.

What are the GDPR requirements for handling personal data in forum posts: Under GDPR, forum posts may be considered personal data if they contain information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person . This can include names, email addresses, IP addresses, and other identifying information. To handle personal data in forum posts in compliance with GDPR, forum owners must obtain consent from users, provide users with the right to access, rectify, and erase their data, and ensure that they have a lawful basis for processing personal data . Additionally, forum owners must be transparent about the data they collect and how they use it, and they must not use the data for any other purposes than they have told users . If forum posts contain sensitive data, such as racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, or trade union membership, additional requirements may apply So as you can see, GDPR does apply in my case. My USERNAME is my real name and it is linking the posts TO ME. I will once again request that you delete all my posts and my username / account as I do indeed have rights under the European GDPR. This will also be the last time I am asking, before I include a lawyer in this.

Well I misspoke in that thread, I meant that people usually throw that idea around about black politicians Obama was a good example, especially with all of that different conspiracy stuff, a lot of black people I've met said they saw him like that Honestly I've been slandered so much by you people since I joined, every time I post the only responses I get are people going out of their way to insinuate problems with my posts and being manipulative, trying to insult me and generally holding me to a completely different standard than what applies to everyone else Like you ignored the fact that he actually asked me to explain all of that, and as a matter of fact, so did he And you'll probably pretend that he didn't ignore it because it's opportune I don't see a reason to be here but there's no way to even delete my account so 🤷♀️

Yeah. And I once lost a posting, because I did not tick that checkbox. I was writing a posting, was interrupted, and only after more than an hour I wrote further. But when I pressed 'Submit Reply' I got the message 'You are not logged on' or something like that. If I remember correctly, when I I logged in again, my later additions were gone... Maybe it was even everything. So I think this would be the best way: use 'Remember me'', and have your browser delete all cookies when you close it. So the combination of Strange's advice, and that of Stringjunkie, is the ideal combination. It has one additional advantage: by having to type in your password once a day, you will remember it in the end. (OK, beecee logs in at least 10 times a day, don't you? ). Real cases I encountered at other fora: users whose email address (with which they opened their forum account) was infiltrated, and they had to open a new one. Then, a few months later, their computer broke, and they got a new one. So they have to login again, but because they always had 'Remember me' activated, they forgot their password, and their password could not be retrieved anymore, because you need your email address for it. So they had to open a new account.

I couldn't activate this account as I used a hotmail address but that's sorted now since I used a gmail address Just to let you know, since I was confused, I'd created another account (I don't remember the username to be sincere but it's on the same IP so easy to find) so it's just 2 I have right now.. and tbh, I tried to email the staff on this email in the announcements but my hotmail account got temporarily locked cos there was apparently suspicious activity which I don't understand, so it would be easier to create another account to PM the admin which I did but that account turned out to be a mess so I decided to try to change my email.. it seems that hotmail addresses are being rejected for some reason? so you might want to check that out? Pffttt, sorry for the longish story, but I don't have any good reason to keep my other account anymore so feel free to delete it since it's against the rules anyway. Sorry for the bother.

new note to self: Don't sign up to any websites where you cannot delete your account, and where you cannot read the instructions on how to delete your account before signing up! Every web site has a way to delete accounts, and yes their posts are removed.. so what? This is just a crooked way that websites can claim "millions" of users so they can charge more for adds. Like the song goes, "Once you check in, you can never leave" very dishonest.

I was wondering if its possible for a mod to delete my account? I don't wish to be a member of this community anymore. If that is possible, I'd like to have it deleted please. Not banned. Thanks.
-
I persistently repeat my demand. Delete my account and all my posts, please.
-
Surely it would be an option to allow users to delete their accounts without deleting their posts and answers. I'm sure other websites manage this; it just means said user's profile is no longer viewable and their email isn't plugged into the website and linked to the account.

How to delete personal account and create a new one?
imatfaal replied to Vexen's topic in Suggestions, Comments and Support
You can't. You can edit your posts for a limited time - but you cannot edit or delete after that certain time. You can even change your user name for a short period after joining. But you don't get to delete your account and start again. -
Some answers to frequently asked questions (or paraphrases of questions) that have come up in moderation efforts or in the Support forum. This will be amended as needed. 1. Someperson is wrong! Why don't the moderators step in and do something? We don't do that. The role of the staff (when acting as staff) is to enforce the rules, so we don't make determinations on who is correct. We do, however, participate in discussions as members of the site, and may weigh in in that capacity, but generally do not mix the roles of enforcing moderation and participation in a discussion. (Some "housekeeping" actions, such as moving posts to a more appropriate area, can still happen while participating) 2. Why was what I posted called a hijack? Or off-topic? The topic of discussion is set by the first post in a thread. If your post is such that it changes the discussion from what the original post(er) (OP) was talking about to what you want to talk about, you are guilty of attempted hijacking. Posting your own pet theory anywhere but in its own thread in the Speculations forum is always considered a hijack. Off-topic is related to this, but this usually arises in the context of commentary on an answer or a subsequent post to the original. Rather than continue the side discussion, a new thread should be made. 3. What is soapboxing? It's when you are simply making a speech, rather than engaging in a discussion. This is what blogs are for. 4. Why was I yelled at for copyright/plagiarism? Copyright is a set of laws that protect things that people write, and mean you can't just paste entire screeds here without permission (and simply existing somewhere on the internet is not permission). Under the provision called Fair Use, you can post small excerpts for review and commentary. Copyright also protects pictures and drawings, so anything posted here should be done with permission or under some form of Creative Commons license. Plagiarism is an ethical violation that occurs when you present material as your own. That is, you have not attributed the work of others. Whenever you are using the creative work of others, you should post an attribution and whenever possible, a link to the source material. 5. What gives you the right to censor me? This is not a public place, and we are not the government, so any such free speech protections do not apply. The price of participation here is that you agree to follow the rules. The people who run the site are well within their authority to remove posts that violate the rules. Moving posts to an appropriate section is not censorship — your words are still there. There are a number of threads where this discussion has taken place. The search function should help you find them. 6. Will you delete my account or remove some post I made? No. We don't delete accounts. If you don't want to participate anymore, it's a simple matter of not coming here. We don't generally remove posts, because doing so after the fact is disruptive to conversations. If you aren't going to stand by something you post, you shouldn't post it. 7. Where is my post? Sometimes posts/threads get moved. Though we try and leave a trail, it doesn't always happen. If you go into your profile, you can click on either the topics or posts box to find your material. If you hover over your user name in a thread, there is a "my content" link. A third option is to use the advanced search function and type in your user name as the only entry, and you will get a list of everything you've posted. 8. Why was my thread locked? Threads are locked if they are duplicates or if the staff decides they have run their course. The latter happens when the thread originator is not engaging in useful discussion — usually by ignoring critiques and simply repeating the same points over and over again. 9. Why was my post moved to Speculations? This has its own FAQ 10. I was expressing my opinion. Why are you asking me for links? This means you probably weren't merely expressing an opinion. An opinion is a personal, subjective view, but if you are asserting a claim as an objective truth, i.e. something that others must accept as truth, then it's not an opinion. And in that case, it's perfectly reasonable for someone to call you on it and ask you to support your claim. Any factual reason(s) you might have given in order to justify your opinion are similarly open to a call for a link to confirm it.

I had a similar problem and had to open a new account. I was unable to change my username. Please feel free to delete or suspend my previous account. -
If that was a potential course of action, would the forum software allow for a sub-moderator account status that had the ability to hide spam threads until a full moderator can delete it and ban the spammer?
-
I would like to not have this account anymore...anyone know how to delete? Or are we prisoner on this?

Hello, I'd like to delete my account but recently found out that deleting accounts isn't an option here... I know that it is possible to ban members so - out of curiosity I was just wondering why it isn't possible to delete accounts too... I understand that deleting old posts of members that want to leave would be problematic but I've always wondered what forums do with the inactive accounts when they start piling up?

As a simple member of this forum, what I would accept is: "We deleted your post"' I propose the following: create a new account called "moderators staff" and use this one when you want to delete someone's post. Then it will be clear that it not the act of any Imatfaul or other, but the result of some concertation between the staff members, a collegial work. And why is Imat hiding behind the protection of other mods. Is he too young and feable to defend himself?

There are no qualifications required. The existing team decides whether or not a nominated individual should have the permission to move, delete, and edit posts/threads added to their account. That's really it.
