NO IT'S NOT!!! π£ This argument is commonly known as reductio ad absurdum See above... My turn, I'll ask you the same basic question that I ask @J.C.MacSwell. Why draw this line in this sand? Besides I'm insinuating nothing, I'm outright saying that you're succumbing to 'our' insidious bias; for instance, world cup football: in the male version the English team is called England, but the Ladies are called the lionesses, in Australia it's even more pronounced misogyny, they're called the matildas.

No it's not, you're arguing for the status quo to be kept sacred; the one where society determines your gender, or sex if you prefer, with a quick glance between the leg's of a newborn baby, even the doc's that need glasses are believed, almost, without exception. And common sense prevails (π), I understand that it's hard to 'imagine'... the possibility that some sense is uncommon, some people are just not suitable for the Olympics, I guess... π

What is the Purpose of Life ?
Everyone forgets about the society that lives within, no one's free of 'them'... mwa ha ha... π€

We should start calling you Reg, for comic affect... Because most people fit neatly and trans people fit nearly... Your going to have to explain this, you seem to be contradicting yourself; earlier you said you could empathise with them??? Be fair, most playing field's are meant to be level, it's not their fault they're boring... No it's not!!! they're not asking you to believe them, they just ask that you accept them; and I'm struggling to understand why the defence, singularly refuse's to do so, it makes no sense, it's not rational... π£ Page 68, "Is the parrot dead yet?"...

Well then, I'm surprised you oppose a playing field for everyone to exploit.

OK, so that's your fundamental reason/excuse (bolded mine); No is my answer, they aren't needed in this argument, until we have actual data from live gameplay... The thing is, for empathy to work one needs to have resonant experiences; for instance, if you've never felt the urge to wear women's underwear, you'll have no idea why a transvestite wants to dress up. Is it? When did we decide that? How would the inclusion of a handful of trans athlete's, alter the revenue in, any sort of, a meaningful way? It's more likely to increase revenue, at least until the novelty wears off... π

All you tried to do is justify, what you believe... That's a why of sorts, but not an answer.

I have no idea, you haven't answered me yet.
-
Transgender athletes
That's still not why, are you being deliberately obtuse? In fact, this thread kind of mirror's the trouble 'real' women had back in the day...π
-
Transgender athletes
But that's still not why, so please try harder.

Transgender athletes
So, why haven't you answered any of my question's, directly? I challenge you to provide a single example, in this entire thread... If semantics is your only weapon, "then I can't even talk to you"... π₯±

Transgender athletes
OK (sigh) for fine read "Also note that, from the very beginning of this thread, I have never been against trying to accommodate transgenders in recreational level sports." You could try to actually answer my question's, with a reason, rather than resorting to an excuse to dodge.
-
Transgender athletes
So? Nothing to see here folk's, it's entirely irrelevant to the question posed, again... π£
-
Transgender athletes
Way to miss the point. π You argue that recreation level sport is fine, and my question is, why does the word elite change the argument?
-
Transgender athletes
It's difficult to understand what difference the word 'elite' has on the argument; can you clarify please? And the only way to do that, is to let them play and 'then' analyse the results; banning them first is just putting the cart before the horse...

AI and the actors strike
For me this is similar to the miner's strike in 80's UK, in that the bosses don't need to produce coal anymore; they have already lost IMHO. This, for me, is just the first skirmish in the on coming war for the jobs that an AI can't do, on a 24/7 shift basis... You'll be pleased to know that at least the theatre will remain, relatively, immune to AI overlap. Edit. cross posted with @StringJunky. Kids will always love a "Punch and Judy" show on the beach, surely... π€

You and me both, sister... A grown ups sense of fairness is still there, still innate, it's just more sophisticated than a child. A rational adult can see the nuances of such an appeal to fairness, if I may get back to topic, above and beyond, "that monkey got more than me for the same shit that I did. π£" No, "it's more important than that" an old English football clichΓ©. The thing is, they do think that; for a reason/excuse that eludes me. There is no rational reason, which is why rational argument is so ineffective. Hence page 65 and a confused Dr Who...

There's only one way for us to ever truely know who's 'more' right; it has to be, let them play first, and then gather the evidence to substantiate who's 'more' right, and if your 'more' right, then we adjust the rules to handicap their inclusion, simples... π§ It's strange because it's not logical, in the context of the thread; no one is just allowed to declare themselves a male heavy weight boxing professional, especially when they're a twelve yo girl. π Maybe it's because you're allowed to play... Fair warning (@mistermack) that's a thinker... π€

Transgender athletes
That's a strange argument, ATM such people are potentially certifiable (that's how); we're talking about people who just feel more comfortable as a different sex, to what others perceived them to be. Ohh FFS, grow up... π₯±

Has anyone bothered to ask a woman about this? I have yet to meet a competitive woman that wouldn't happily take on a man... At anything... π€

A definiton is also arbitrary, as are the rules of the game; I don't know what the problem is, nobody's suggesting that we let a twelve yo girl take on a professional heavy weight male in a boxing ring. Just let the people who think their female enough to have surgery, play with other females in the appropriate category; it's not going to destroy the sport if the occasional trans person wins a game, jeez; it's not like the floodgates will open, for all the cheating 'men' who will pretend to be trans by sticking their tackle between the leg's. But if it does then employ a border force sargeant to do the strip searches, problem solved...

How would I know? More to the point, how would you know? It's like insisting that anyone who wants to parcipitate in this thread, should have a recognised degree or equivalent level of understanding...
