  1. Most people don't think that deeply... So basically, your grandfather agrees with me??? The greater good of what? We are all equal, equally capable of not being special: and I blame you/dad/mum/friend/colleague/countryman/etc. in case you were wondering!!!!
  2. Gravity was a force potential before the inflationary period and that potential has been realised ever since.
  3. I'm not sure America's got 20 years, if this trend continues...
  4. indeed, the difference is understanding; for instance, I know how a car works, but I couldn't teach you how to fix it...
  5. What do you think the moral equation is? When is it ok to kill? Is a thread I started a while back, which seems a more appropriate thread, to post your answer.
  6. I think one of the main reasons for societies increasing numbers of depression is, we are encouraged to believe we're special and that if we aren't "the best we can be" we fail, full stop. That somehow our parents are automatically imbued with parental love/obligation and if not, my none-specialness is their fault. I think it's important to forgive us for being human; kryptonian's can just fuck off... Way to read the room... 😉
  7. Pro-life is a dichotomy; for instance, if we choose not to procreate, who's gonna feed the wolves???
  8. It strikes me that this is a question of recognition rather than volume; for instance, in a penguin colony even the loudest baby (and they do have to be loud) won't be heard from the other side of the colony unless it's cry is unique and distinguishable. A human baby only has to make enough noise to be heard in a relatively quiet environment with only a few competitors, recognition would come when the parent see's it, rather than a unique cry.
  9. Did I though???
  10. now you're wrong thrice, it's not my fault that you don't understand why... 😉
  11. The needs of the many, yadayadayada; is it fair, yadayadayada. Is it scientific? Not in this thread/society; let's stop pretending this has anything to do with science; it's pseudohomophobic, at best...
  12. Well, you were wrong the first time, as I explained; it's like watching the replay and expecting the goaly to save it this time round...
  13. Now you're wrong twice...
  14. Wow, that went south quickly; here take a toke...
  15. Think about what you can control...
  16. You don't, you can choose to hold your breath, but the autopilot will kick in before you crash.
  17. And that's another strawman, the argument was about how an off-cut can lead to an unintended machine i.e. an emergent quality. As machine's become more complex, other emergent qualities 'should be expected' the nature of which is impossible to predict; therefore the premise of the OP is demonstrably false.
  18. If everyone wins, what's the point of playing...
  19. Because women want to play and people want to watch. It's you that doesn't seem to get it, sport is a story and jeopardy is what pays the bill's; the FA cup for instance is open to every team in the country (ignore the gender), a non league (semi-professional) club will occasionally (by which I mean every year) win against a club 100's of place's above them, sometimes they do it twice (by which I mean nearly every year); the press descend and suddenly everyone is more interested in them than they are in Liverpool or Manchester united, the best pay day in Forest Green Rover's history and as a fan, I remember that year; I can't remember who won the cup though...

All I'm asking is, why is it important to you?
  22. If I win with a lucky shot, it's down to my dedication (the more I practice the luckier I get); if you win with a lucky shot, you took an advantage (and that's not fair)...
  23. What stage of understanding are you?
  24. Have you ever tried to wake yourself (and no, I don't mean did you set your alarm clock.)? You can consciously attempt to become unconscious; but what you can't do, is flip a 'sleep/awake' switch.
