  1. The tech industry is flexing its muscle. Facebook suspended Trumps account indefinitely. Twitter suspended him forever. Many of his cronies including Steve Bannon have had their YouTube accounts blocked. It’s similar to what they did to Alex Jones for spouting his conspiracy nonsense a few years ago. Along the same theme, Parler (the safe space to which all those living in Trumpistan and QAnon territory fled when they got tired of being challenged on their BS on other platforms) was removed by Google from the play store yesterday. Apple then also removed it from the App Store today. However, removing Parler from the stores just means new users can’t download it. Existing users who previously downloaded can keep using until the iOS is updated to a version beyond what the app is approved to support. So, it’s still out there circulating lies and disinformation and lathering up the lightly educated. That is, until tomorrow... Now Amazon who hosts Parler on AWS has given Parler 24-hour notice that it will be removed from their hosting servers tomorrow. It’s being taken out to the woodshed and shot. All of these things are happening because of the death threats and incitement to violence happening so consistently on Parler, due to the unsurprising predictable cesspool it’s become. The activities taking place there break the terms of service of all of the tech companies. What do you think about that? Is this an unacceptable obstacle to free speech? What happens when it’s less easy for those deepest in the Trump cult to no longer use widely available social media to align with the likeminded and to spread their nazi like messages? 8-Chan again? Back to AM radio, maybe? Does this just prompt them into the streets sooner with their loaded long guns aimed at their unsuspecting neighbors? Marching with torches screaming “Jews will not replace us?” Something else?
  2. One could argue that democrats desire for criminal justice reform and for releasing nonviolent offenders... for allowing felons to vote once released... is a bigger more comprehensive way of achieving the same thing. One could also argue that this interesting exchange about who supports voting more is off-topic from the insurrection discussion.
  3. Yeah. That’s not what happens in the US. It is, however, what most democrats advocate and what most republicans stand in opposition to.
  4. This has been one of the more interesting things about people’s feelings regarding Trumps misdeeds. They’re so accustomed to learning of things happening in secret and behind the scenes and recognizing those as being bad that they’re almost blind and oblivious to the misdeeds when they happen in the open and are literally being shown to them on live video.
  5. No. People have been known to be fired for asking for a few hours off to go vote. Many can’t vote at all because they can’t afford to lose their job. Early voting helps with this, but that’s being blocked by republicans in many states, too.
  6. Charles Manson never killed anyone himself. He’s in jail for inciting others to violence. Other than Trump being POTUS, is hard to find differences, especially in context of the cultish behavior

Like this one? Me? I laughed harder at this one:
  8. Ha! It’s been some time, but I’ve seen that one. Amazing what we’re capable of. I’ve spent many tens of hours with a chainsaw, but don’t think I could be as precise as he was with it
  9. I’ve also seen stories saying a man tazed himself to death in the testicles, but I’m trying to be extra cautious of unverified sources right now. Fake news is now real... sadly.
  10. Doh! Totally missed that. Thx!
  11. Cautiously optimistic, even though our politics will remain toxic. One take I heard about all the impeachment / 25th amendment talk is how it may primarily be intended to pressure Trump into leaving voluntarily. Basically, it remains an option which they’ll hold in their back pocket and can use at any time, but is mostly intended as a lever or nudge to get him to exit the office without a big fuss... paraphrased, “We’re not effing around anymore, dude. You WILL be leaving no matter what it takes.”
  12. I really wish you’d stop derailing the thread by asking me to defend claims I haven’t made.
  13. I've not made any claims whatsoever about bias on this forum. That was you guys, remember?
  14. I disagree. Prove me wrong with a direct quote, if you'd like. Earlier, I was primarily referring to the claims of hypocrisy, but what’s super funny is how you did it again right here in the sentence immediately preceding your request for me to find an example. Thanks. I try.
  15. This thought crossed my mind, too. Good call out.
  16. I said our default position should be to assume that the woman is telling the truth in majority of these cases. Also, none of this is about excusing violence during BLM protests while admonishing it during StopTheSteal protests. See the difference? I'm American, remember? I brought a gun to the knife fight.
  17. Reporting suggests Pence is no interested in pursuing the 25th despite his anger at what's happened. I also find it interesting that already 2 members of Trumps cabinet have resigned, likely because they're too afraid to cast a vote if the 25th is employed.
  18. This was already boring last night, but just to clarify in hopes of moving along: * MigL introduced the idea that members here support violence during protests (or look passed it / ignore it) when it's executed by people supporting a cause with which they agree. The implication was one of hypocrisy. I was one of the members implicitly being charged with this * I challenged that. I have a vastly different recollection of these discussions and recall ALL of us saying violence is not okay and that we deplore it. I requested a direct quote or two as evidence to demonstrate what resulted in MigLs alternative understanding in case I was mistaken * You spoke up reinforcing MigLs claim and said something to the effect about humanity being doomed if we on SFN cannot see how hypocritical we are being * I asked you the same thing I asked MigL... Again a plain and simple request for an actual quote or two which led you to this conclusion. My supposition was that you and MigL have misinterpreted the intended meanings of posters here, that you're arguing against caricatures and fictions and frankly strawmen * You flippantly blew me off, I said thanks for confirming you couldn't support your claims with evidence, and now we've repeated this exchange 2 or 3 times... Me: Please share a quote. You: Nah, no thanks. That's fine dude, but again... You're asserting things about the behaviors of members on these forums. You've been challenged on the validity and veracity of your claims. You've been asked to back them up. You have refused now at least 4 times to support your assertion with actual posts despite those entirely reasonable requests. It's too bad too, because this is a text-based medium so it's actually possible and not terribly hard to quote someone in support of our assertions... That is, of course, so long as we're not here to act solely as an insufferable... well... Yes, I do... and I appreciate the very clear reminder of that fact here.
  19. Unlikely... they've shown themselves to be rather spineless these last several years so I wouldn't hold out hope that they're willing to do anything other than lay low and run out the clock these last 2 weeks.
  20. Did you cast personal aspersions and fail to support them with evidence when asked there, too?
  21. Thank you for taking the time to address my request and provide context for your comments. +1 Hopefully the additional context I added to mine was also helpful I would also say nobody was saying violence was a way to change laws and challenge them in court, so we may be talking a bit passed each other on that front.
  22. Thanks for confirming you’re unable or unwilling to support your claim.
  23. Is accurately describing it as a false equivalence the same thing as dismissing it? And still not seeing any quotes...so at this point it remains possible it’s little more than a fiction or caricature in your head.
  24. We must be reading different threads. I recall ALL of us saying that there’s no place for violence but that we support the cause. Again... feel free to actually quote someone. Until then, that which can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence. The forces which gave us Trump are getting stronger, not weaker. And yes, there’s a massive difference between asking for our police to stop murdering black people and some small handful of people going too far by breaking a door at the local Target store... and baiting millions of people for months to believe that their votes were stolen from them and getting them to think their freedoms are being pissed upon... lathering them up until they start consistently threatening civil war, talking openly about murdering their neighbors, and just yesterday actively stormed our government capitol (both in DC and local capitol buildings across the states) in an insurrection attempt complete with weapons and bombs.
