  1. And the counter argument is that once you move away from scientific explanations, then any conclusions you draw are specious to the point of fiction. Without scientific rigor or ability to falsify hypotheses, then you're sharing little more than opinions or preferences. Doing what you propose moves us into a space where suggestions that god created the universe are functionally equivalent to suggestions that unicorns created the universe, or that the universe came from mashed potatoes, or from the wand of Harry Potter. Those aren't explanations. They're unfounded assertions. They perhaps make you feel better psychologically, but they "explain" nothing whatsoever if validity and accuracy are your goal.
  2. An interesting finding, adding to other existing work that had already similarly pointed in this direction. Perhaps some of us truly are just "wired" differently. What do you think? https://neurosciencenews.com/spirituality-brain-neurotheology-18845/
  3. Gravel also slows the water. Slows erosion. Some water seeps downward into soil. The rest (that which is above the layer being absorbed into soil) flows away through the pipe. Downward perforation placement is correct, as is ability for underlying gravel to saturate
  4. Not just a chance, but a high likelihood. Depends on intensity and duration of exposure Also, this isn’t a megathread. That was a bit presumptuous 😂
  5. You can’t be serious? This sounds rather naive even if I stipulate your premise that transparency is often hard to find in China. MANY people know what’s going on and they need to be 007 to do so.
  6. Even just this week the courts had to strike down a law related to social media posts that got passed by the Republican legislature in Florida and signed by Republican Governor Ron Desantis for being against the first amendment. Once again our nostalgic friend is posting based on fictions and mythologies
  7. It’s horrible. All six of them won a trophy. We need legislation to prevent that!! [/sarcasm]
  8. Thank you for reminding me how even ridiculous children can post dumb things on the internet And you meant swat, not swap.
  9. I reckon you fellas do, tho. No worries.
  10. Unsure why that earned a neg rep, but even in the face of cultural appropriation I wonder who cares
  11. Why deny any of it? Race is a social construct. Also, more to the point, who cares?
  12. I agree with you. This is not a formal refereed debate.
  13. Ok. It’s not tho You’ve also quoted me out of context, which I didn’t do to you. Whatever tho
  14. The 6 I referenced were the cisgendered people that folks claim are facing unfair competition, not the number of trans athletes, though obviously there’s a correlation. It was also a number used for humor to convey a point than it was a precise count.
  15. Not really, no. I’m not saying Holmes is an idiot and therefore his claim is wrong. I’m showing where you claim relies on fallacies and is little more than a personal preference or opinion. If, however, you disagree and feel you’re being personally attacked, then use the report post function so I can be dealt with properly. Now THIS right here is much closer to a personal attack. And this too:
  16. Oh well. So much for asking you not to quibble when the basic gist was right or you avoiding asking me red herring questions.
  17. Perhaps, but that is not what happened here. Let me repeat the same point you seem to have missed the first four times. You claim the universe could not have come from nothing, or that it’s always been here is not a sufficient explanation. Then in the next breath you state that it’s perfectly fine to assert god came from nothing or has always been there (I paraphrased, but that’s the gist so please let’s not quibble). That is why you’ve been rightly accused of special pleading. Protest all you’d like and ask a bunch of irrelevant red herring questions. This is what you've been doing. More below in hopes of not having to explain this a 5th time: https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Special_pleading
  18. In case it wasn’t clear from Phi’s response, Holmes, that is not something that can be configured here in the UI. It’s that way at the software level, and this site uses, but does not own or code that software.
  19. Except for all those logical fallacies being pointed out and which you consistently ignore. Special pleading is the most obvious one, but your appeals to personal incredulity have been rampant, too.
  20. But these bills are directed at middle schools and high schools where the kids are less than 16-17 years old
  21. Totally understand, and please recall I wasn't responding directly to you... People are directly affected, and I feel bad for all six of them.
  22. There are hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of thousands of athletes. Transgendered people have already been competing with them incognito. Transgendered humans also make up much less than 1% of the population. I reject the idea that there will be a huge impact, and struggle even to see a marginal impact on fairness and competition, but acknowledge it. I also acknowledge that people feel differently and that’s okay, but while your individual motivations / rationalizations may be pure, at the broader societal level this isn’t about protecting athletes. This is about attacking transgendered humans. Millions upon millions of athletes out there. Maybe a few hundred (or even a few thousand) transgendered examples… many of whom were already competing outside of our awareness. Isn’t there a saying that applies here… something about mountains out of molehills… being penny wise and pound foolish? Perspective.
  23. Unless the defecating animal is sick, then their feces is unlikely to harm the person ingesting it. It’s mostly water, harmless bacteria, undigested food, and some dead cells.
  24. I don’t disagree
  25. God, why do people care so much about this ridiculous topic? Isn’t this just the next gay marriage?
