  1. Thank you. I should’ve been more clear. I’m aware Japan has relatively light security. I was asking about heavier security elsewhere, and guns being the primary reason why that security in other nations is more proactive (as opposed to general threat levels and extra-legal activities, etc). Your link doesn’t support that, but that’s what was suggested. Doesn’t matter, though. I don’t need it even want a link so long as nobody’s arguing Abe would still be alive were he making this visit in Azerbaijan or Austria or Afghanistan or something. 3D printed guns are the bigger threat IMO. They’re already much more common than we’d prefer. It’s also easier to load your own shells and make your own.
  2. Nice assertion you got there. Would be a shame if someone challenged it and asked for a citation.
  3. That's not even as good as hearsay. That's like hearsay stacked upon the telephone game stacked upon a rather likely fiction.
  4. But alas, 'twas my education which allowed me to accurately call out to you the manner in which your conclusion is misguided and remind you how language is not static but instead evolves with local usage and culture itself. The funny part? I share your distaste of people using the word "energy" in some of the ways we hear it used, but our own distaste doesn't ipso facto make it "incorrect" or somehow "wrong." Be sure your own lessons are without flaw before trying to "school me" again, please.
  5. Usage is context dependent. It’s arrogant and willfully oblivious to how language and culture themselves evolve to call it is a misuse due merely to differing from how physicists use it.
  6. Unsure how changing the spelling of homonyms would help enhance understanding and comprehension of spoken language. Changing the word entirely makes more sense, but language itself evolves with usage and local choices so executing such a change would need to be grassroots rather than top down.
  7. Yet you apparently need me to draw you a picture. I can explain it for you, but I can’t understand it for you. There are meaningful and important differences between “wanting to be in the middle of what’s happening and more important than those around you” and “wanting to hold on to the US presidency,” despite the obvious overlap previously acknowledged. I have no current plans to further comment on this peripheral topic, so please feel free to keep having the last word and refusing to acknowledge any sloppiness or imprecision in your comment until your heart’s content.
  8. Agreed, but that’s different from this comment below, despite obvious overlap in the circles of that Venn diagram:
  9. But that’s not really thread relevant since he could’ve done all that without pushing his followers to hang his vice president.
  10. His aim was to retain power in any way possible. He tried to do this in at least 4 different ways. Storming the capitol or having his supporters storm the capitol was one of them. The committee hearings confirmed he and his team were talking about exactly this several days beforehand
  11. Also a lot of the heat will come from your own humid exhaled breath. Find a way to vent that more completely
  12. In an attempt to blunt the response to these hearings and distract from the damning testimony, Trump has accelerated his campaign planning and is likely to announce he’s running soon (per fivethirtyeight)
  13. Word salad nonsense
  14. No, not unless it’s on-topic and furthers discussion of said topic. As this is a thread on consciousness, your question has no place here. This question specifically:
  15. Magic eraser? Acetone? Gasoline or other solvent?
  16. Find out next time on… Americas Got Treason!
  17. Gripping and explosive
  18. Whatever the reason, is a good thing
  19. Russian missiles hit a shopping mall with over 1,000 civilians inside today
  20. The committee was not scheduled to meet again until July, but it seems they’ve obtained some sort of new evidence and rather abruptly have scheduled a new previously unscheduled hearing for tomorrow (Tuesday)

  22. Another way to say this is that it’s an emotionally manipulative exceedingly rare edge case where we all mostly already agree anyway regardless of which stance we take overall (life/choice).
  23. I’m reminded of the BLM protests. One group asks for agents of the state to stop murdering black people so often. The other group ignores that issue entirely trying to get us to focus instead on the one guy in Portland who broke a window while out among the other tens of thousands of peaceful protestors. Good times.
  24. Russia is making steady progress grabbing more control of the east and causing Ukrainian soldiers to withdraw and then there’s this: Russian missiles hit an apartment block and kindergarten in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv today.
  25. Indeed. Endorphins are very powerful. I’ve been growing my own selection of peppers and fermenting them into a mash base that I put on nearly everything. Absent that, Sriracha is like my ketchup. 🌶 No thanks. I love spicy food, but not so much that you can’t taste anything else… for a week. My BIL grew those last year and couldn’t even really cook with them. It was a waste, but YMMV
