If you get down in the mud with pigs, you end up smelling like one
Along these same lines, in districts where Democrats KNOW they're going to lose, some are strategically switching parties to vote for the non-MAGA republican candidate. A clear example is Liz Cheney who's policies run almost 100% contrary to nearly any democrat, but since she's still better than the MAGA alternative some Dems are changing party registration to lend her their vote. This isn't about acting in an ideal situation. It's about strategic choices when the only choices are evil and slightly lesser evil. You go with the lesser of the two. It's the wife's fault the husband keeps abusing her... obviously. 🙄

And sadly not enough citizens have nut allergies nor the common sense to avoid the anaphylaxis it so often generates.

I'm sympathetic to this point. I'm also unsure what else one might do to overcome the challenge you cite. If Republicans are redrawing district lines to keep winning even when they get fewer votes... and if it's the winners who get to redraw district lines... and those who lose elections have no power to make things better because the power goes to those who win... regardless of how they won, the winners get to choose what happens in the next election... What else do you recommend be done to move the situation to a better place? Again, I'm sympathetic to the situation you cite. I share your desire for more integrity. We align completely on the need for the US to be better and elections more fair... But should the Democrats keep bringing plastic knives to the Republicans proverbial gun fight? How does that allow things to get better since those who win get to make the rules which shape who is able to win in the future? Unilateral disarmament is not an effective strategy here, IMO.

Woodworking: Amateurs, Craftsmen, & In-Between
I did begin with a card scraper before starting my 4-5 hour sanding session with headphones full of music and nostrils full of fresh air.

War Games: Russia Takes Ukraine, China Takes Taiwan. US Response?
Probably Harry Potter, who is as equivalently fictional as your scenario.

Those frame pieces are the cherry. Paduuk is a more exotic african wood and is seen as the center reddish square in the piece. Not yet. I have a few hand planes that are old and need badly to be repaired and tuned. I'm sure if I had one that's well dialed in I could attempt to hand plane end grain without too much tear out, but for now I don't see it as worth the risk. Tear out that late into the build / that deep into the project would be devastating. Drum sander is easily the right tool for the job, but they're big and they're expensive. Lol. I can actually think of a few relatively easy ways to achieve this if I had a CNC machine to do it.

Never. Just Tightbond III. Waterproof. Food safe. Stronger than the wood itself. Definitely joint the surfaces first for a clean bond though, and ensure the joint isn’t glue starved from over tightening clamps. Worst case? If it fails 3 years from now, I can simply rip it quickly on the saw and reglue. Good as new. You can’t put an end grain board into a surface planer without extreme risk. Some idiots try, but I’m calling them idiots for a reason. The blades too easily catch on the fibers, throw the board at 200+ mph. Board explodes. Planer explodes. Body parts hit by flying debris explodes. Some do it and take 1/64th” passes, but it’s not even worth the attempt IMO… even though my throbbing shoulders are trying to convince me otherwise. I spray adhesive 60 grit sheets to a flat piece of ply and rub the board back and forth for a few hours until all cubes are dead level with each other.

No, I saw a few pictures of a few different designs others had done and kinda stared at them for a while until I figured it out. One square piece. Two pieces with that same size square plus another half square off the side of it cut to 45. Yes, whenever possible I did a whole row. Let it dry for 45-60 minutes, removed the clamps, and started the next row. 8 rows total, each 5 cubes tall. Once all rows are combined into a single board, you then spend an eternity sanding it totally flat and wishing you had a drum sander.

I can try, but with an occasional wipe of mineral oil and application of bees wax thinned out with said oil, it could theoretically outlast my children. Maybe a quick sanding and refinish once per decade etc. Thank you! I started with a simple face / edge grain one, then some more basic patterns on my first end grain ones. This is by far the most intimidating one I’ve tried yet. Good luck if you decide to try. Worst case is you make some new firewood and try again. If you buy, $200-250 is likely what you’ll spent (farmers market, craft shows, Facebook marketplace, etc)

Woodworking: Amateurs, Craftsmen, & In-Between
Thanks! Since it’s end grain, it has an almost “self-healing” quality and is easier on the knifes edge, too.

Woodworking: Amateurs, Craftsmen, & In-Between
Built another end grain cutting board. Gave several of various designs out as gifts over the holidays, but think I’ll keep this one for our own kitchen bc I really like the optical illusion. Approximately 13” x 9” x 1-3/8” and constructed using cherry, maple, walnut, and paduuk.

Gun control, which side wins?
It seems Abe is a bad name for people who wish to lead nations and not get shot.
-
Gun control, which side wins?
Of course But you can get gallon sized bags of them for cheap so would only do that if times were really tough

Had to necro a 4 year old thread to keep grinding that axe of yours, eh?

How accurate is the views number under posts?
Not very accurate, or at least not informative. Mostly web crawlers and search engine indexing. As for real people, it’s basically the same 3 people who keep coming back to read new replies.

Gun control, which side wins?
Thank you. I should’ve been more clear. I’m aware Japan has relatively light security. I was asking about heavier security elsewhere, and guns being the primary reason why that security in other nations is more proactive (as opposed to general threat levels and extra-legal activities, etc). Your link doesn’t support that, but that’s what was suggested. Doesn’t matter, though. I don’t need it even want a link so long as nobody’s arguing Abe would still be alive were he making this visit in Azerbaijan or Austria or Afghanistan or something. 3D printed guns are the bigger threat IMO. They’re already much more common than we’d prefer. It’s also easier to load your own shells and make your own.

Nice assertion you got there. Would be a shame if someone challenged it and asked for a citation.

War Games: Russia Takes Ukraine, China Takes Taiwan. US Response?
That's not even as good as hearsay. That's like hearsay stacked upon the telephone game stacked upon a rather likely fiction.

English Language - words, meanings and context
But alas, 'twas my education which allowed me to accurately call out to you the manner in which your conclusion is misguided and remind you how language is not static but instead evolves with local usage and culture itself. The funny part? I share your distaste of people using the word "energy" in some of the ways we hear it used, but our own distaste doesn't ipso facto make it "incorrect" or somehow "wrong." Be sure your own lessons are without flaw before trying to "school me" again, please.
-
English Language - words, meanings and context
Usage is context dependent. It’s arrogant and willfully oblivious to how language and culture themselves evolve to call it is a misuse due merely to differing from how physicists use it.
-
English Language - words, meanings and context
Unsure how changing the spelling of homonyms would help enhance understanding and comprehension of spoken language. Changing the word entirely makes more sense, but language itself evolves with usage and local choices so executing such a change would need to be grassroots rather than top down.

January 6th Committee Broadcast
Yet you apparently need me to draw you a picture. I can explain it for you, but I can’t understand it for you. There are meaningful and important differences between “wanting to be in the middle of what’s happening and more important than those around you” and “wanting to hold on to the US presidency,” despite the obvious overlap previously acknowledged. I have no current plans to further comment on this peripheral topic, so please feel free to keep having the last word and refusing to acknowledge any sloppiness or imprecision in your comment until your heart’s content.

January 6th Committee Broadcast
Agreed, but that’s different from this comment below, despite obvious overlap in the circles of that Venn diagram:

January 6th Committee Broadcast
But that’s not really thread relevant since he could’ve done all that without pushing his followers to hang his vice president.

January 6th Committee Broadcast
His aim was to retain power in any way possible. He tried to do this in at least 4 different ways. Storming the capitol or having his supporters storm the capitol was one of them. The committee hearings confirmed he and his team were talking about exactly this several days beforehand
