  1. Indeed, though simpler would be mortise and tenon connections with square/rectangular dimensioned stock, then round over the corners and edges with a router and some sandpaper. Could use dowels or biscuits instead if not comfortable cutting own mortise and tenons. Similar connection

I was working out, not eating Twinkie’s. Lol
  3. Well, except for those bits where they used a magnet, an angle grinder, and a welder. Lol I also don’t often work with large diameter dowel stock, though totally appreciate how cleanly constructed that corner joint was ✌🏼
  4. Smacking the face means board feel matters here. After sanding to 220 or 300, I’d apply some satin sheen hard wax oil. If, however, it was a very porous wood, I’d first do a skim coat with Timbermate to close the textured pores. Once done, a French style polish with paste wax. That should feel like butter when smacking the nose/forehead and all without making it look plastic-ey 🪵 😍

Lol. Nice^ What got me thinking about this topic was how rhythms and movement are everywhere... our heartbeat, our circadian rhythms, the day night cycle, the phases of the moon... we feel/hear within the mothers womb... the swooshing and flowing of her movements and her rhythms... it's everywhere. And I realized, this is common across animal species, and likely fish too... these cycles and movements and waves... we upon hearing and feeling these waves often dance to them, enjoy music as another type of wave. We even seek out music based on our mood, and our moods change when listening to different music or sounds. So, why not fish too? We're not THAT different in this context, after all. And this thread seems to have confirmed that, even if only a bit.
  6. Your point is clearly correct. I was imprecise with mine. Thanks for bringing this clarity. As Phi highlighted already, the answer depends on what it will be used for... under what conditions... will it be hung on a wall and left alone, or will it be used as a bar top with glass bottles and keys and plates of food smashing against it hour after hour day after day? Will it be used as a spoon in hot cooking liquids, or will it be supporting the 2nd story of a house? Will it be in direct sunlight where UV protection is an issue, or in a dark drawer or closet somewhere? You seem to want to keep this private, which is fine, but if you want a better answer then I'll need you to please ask a better question. I have some experience here and would like to help you.
  7. That’s a very big question. What will it be used for? Under what conditions?
  8. Doesn’t this apply equally to all folded paper airplanes?
  9. Any liquid penetration into unfinished wood surfaces, whether pure water or chemicals of various sorts, will speed deterioration. Wood can last a very long time if properly stored and with air circulating equally across all sides, but even minor differences in humidity on the sides (like if one side is pressed against something while the opposite side is exposed) will lead to more rapid cupping and warping. Instead of worrying about how to clean untreated wood, recommend instead you wipe it with some quickly evaporating mineral spirits and apply a quality finish to protect it if the piece is important to you. There are film finishes like poly, hardening oil based finishes, hard wax oils, e even just an annual application of paste wax would be better than nothing and leaving wood raw.
  10. Yeah. I went for a cheap joke and it wasn’t even very good. Lots of bombs have fins and land better than my attempt at humor just did
  11. I’m not the one who, in context of THIS thread, couldn’t figure out what accidental leaks were being described
  12. Believe those are called “missiles.”
  13. Apparently our ability to have clear cogent exchanges
  14. It does seem like there’s an uptick in bots being deployed by their designers into discussion forums as part of their broader training strategy and ML. I’m wary of most new posters myself. It’s getting worse… fast. Request to use the report button is entirely appropriate, though.
  15. Lol. Boeing shade. Meanwhile Raytheon is sitting in the corner sending paper airplanes into orbit, but it’s top secret
  16. Hang Tony Fauci! Yeah. Pretty much. We’re obviously still failing, too.
  17. We’re never going to know for sure which origin hypothesis is exactly correct. I’m uncertain, though, why this is the issue getting everyone agitated? Wet market. Lab leak. Both should be made safer as a good general practice, but in terms of the origin of SARS-Cov2, who cares? None of these agencies are saying it was deliberate or for militaristic reasons. Of all the lessons humanity needs to learn after this pandemic, I don’t feel that even makes the Top 10 list.
  18. Evidence from my kids suggests otherwise. Not possible that’s innate 😂
  19. Except, yes. It does. All biological and chemical markers confirm this, even without the subject being accompanied by conscious awareness.
  20. Found this pretty cool. Thought some here might react similarly. “Boeing engineers’ handmade airplane shatters a record by flying nearly the length of an American football field. <…> Their design was inspired by hypersonic aerospace vehicles and they practiced for four months before making their attempt. <…> “We tried to mimic the design of various hypersonic vehicles, which travel at speeds over Mach 5 (five times the speed of sound). So, we decided to call our plane Mach 5,” Ruble said. <…> Ruble and Jensen studied origami and aerodynamics for months, putting in 400 to 500 hours of creating different prototypes to try to design a plane that could fly higher and longer. <…> We found the optimal angle is about 40 degrees off the ground. Once you’re aiming that high, you throw as hard as possible. That gives us our best distance,” Jensen said. “It took simulations to figure that out.“ Video at the link: https://onfirstup.com/boeing/BNN/articles/duo-s-paper-airplane-seizes-guinness-world-records-status-1?bypass_deeplink=true
  21. There is ambiguity in source of our own sexual preferences, but homophobia regarding the preferences and practices of others is decidedly not genetic. Because their local religious leader(s) said that God said it's bad. Because it makes Jesus cry or something. End program.
  22. Incorrect. All it means is NOT*theist. No conclusions can be drawn regarding other beliefs.
  23. I had the same vibe. You're fishing in the wrong lake given the fish you wish to catch.
  24. I disagree. It was only a decade ago I was advocating in favor of prop 8 and gay marriage etc. We can all be advocates. That convinces more to become allies. That’s the cushion we need to prevent such legislation from moving forward (even up there in the Niagara region). ✌🏼
