War Games: Russia Takes Ukraine, China Takes Taiwan. US Response?
You're right; my mistake. As many as 80000 Russian soldiers killed, or wounded, in Ukrainian conflict. As Many as 80,000 Russian Forces Killed, Wounded in Ukraine: Pentagon | World Report | US News

War Games: Russia Takes Ukraine, China Takes Taiwan. US Response?
Exactly my view Stringy. It is much easier to control the 'news' in distant parts of rural Russia, but if deaths from the affluent metropolitan western areas of Russia started to mount, controlling the news would become much more difficult.

It's my duty to battle the Left (split from War Games: Russia Takes Ukraine, China Takes Taiwan. US Response?}
While I can agree with the first statement about left wing dictatorships being responsible for a lot of deaths, I have to question the second statement, that democracy is a soft, and left, form of government. Your first statement mentions the many left wing dictatorships that are NOT democracies, does it not ? The third statement does not follow at all, and is completely wrong. In the first you mention how left wing DICTATORSHIPS have been disproportionately responsible for loss of life, yet the conclusion you draw is that democracy has "the worst record of bloodshed out of the competing systems of government". You seem to be confused ... and incel.

I am not D Trump. I know there are many people in the world more qualified, and suitable, of surpassing , or replacing me. I used CharonY as an example of one such person, for the reasons specified; so there is no resentment and no threat to me from my PoV. .However if I was surpassed or replaced by someone who is not more qualified than I am, I might perceive it as unfair, resent it, and see it as a threat. Alternatively he/she could be a type that, either through lack of education, or lack of morals, considers people who are different ( skin color, gender, sexual orientation, religion, etc.) to be his inferiors, and wronged, or threatened, when those people surpass or replace him/her. I don't see any mismatch.

The energy of the Universe
Again, you should read the link provided by Markus. You will find information such as "Although this way of calculating mass (known after its authors as “ADM mass”) has proved useful, it doesn’t allow physicists to quantify the mass within a finite region. Say, for instance, that they are studying two black holes that are in the process of merging, and they want to determine the mass of each individual black hole prior to the merger, as opposed to that of the system as a whole. The mass enclosed within any individual region — as measured from the surface of that region, where gravity and space-time curvature might be very strong — is called “quasilocal mass.”" Do you have an aversion to reading ?

War Games: Russia Takes Ukraine, China Takes Taiwan. US Response?
70-80 000 Russian soldiers dead by latest estimates. Mostly from rural areas of Russia, where there is little opportunity; where life is hard, and death comes easy. Nobody sems to care about these kids. But V Putin's forces must need to replenish those dead soldiers if he wants to hold, or seize more, parts of Ukraine. The problem is he cannot order a General Mobilization, as that would mean conscription for everyone. And when the more affluent Russians from St. Petersburg and Moscow see their kids going off to Ukraine for the 'Special Operation', and not coming back, there's going to be some explaining to do.

The energy of the Universe
It doesn't. But the papers it references might ( I haven't read them ). Due to gravity's non-linearity, mass cannot simply be weighed , as the gravitational 'field' is also a source of gravity, and the two are difficult to separate. Gravity gravitates, and the 'field' adds to the energy-momentum ( mass ). The article discusses methods for 'isolating' the mass from non-linear effects. And methods for using that isolated mass to determine angular momentum. Maybe you should read it ...

I would also like to add to CharonY's ( always ) excellent post, that the 'threat', or resentment, is perceived, and so must be examined from the PoV of the perceeiver. If someone surpasses me for a promotion, or any status altering movement, and I know that they are the right person for the job, there is no perceved threat. CharonY could be a wheelchair bound, Pakistani, lesbian woman for all I know, yet I don't resent, or feel threatened, by his ( her ? ) position as moderator, or his ( her ? ) title of Biology expert. Now, if Peterkin was awarded the title of Physics expert ...

What do you regard as the most basic operations in Mathematics ?
Identity function is a process, additive, multiplicative, etc., that leaves the original value unchanged. If the value returned cannot be the same as the original, it has no 'identity', and no other operations are valid. Sorry I'm not using 'flowery' mathematical language, but identity function is usually used in set theory. Or maybe I'm just not remembering correctly.

Is any operation valid without identity ?

And I said For gross contaminants, like 10 k or 14 k gold, lab grade equipment should work. But you may be right about higher purity grades.

The energy of the Universe
Except that mass is also ambiguous. Some of these problems seem so simple, Markus, such as quasilocal mass, in GR, being indicated by the difference in curvature of a two-dimensional sheet relative to Minkowsky flat. The hard part seems to be finding a method for which mathematical tools are available so as to allow computation. More of a mathematical problem than a physical one. Then again, at this level of theory, there's very little difference.

Old Abrahamic religious mindsets in new IT companies
I guess it is true. The human mind looks for patterns and connections; and often finds them when they are not really there.

various types of gold are alloyed to silver, copper, zinc, etc. This affects the density. I would think accurately weighing the sample, and determining its volume by water displacement, would yield a density which can be compared to pure gold. It would be as reliable as your weighing/measuring equipment.

War Games: Russia Takes Ukraine, China Takes Taiwan. US Response?
So far the situation in the waters around Taiwan is all bluster. The number of intrusions into Taiwan's territorial waters and warning zones are worrying, however, as there is no way to distinguish an actual attack from just another intrusion. I sure hope that Taiwan's missile defense systems are 'locking on' to every single intrusion into their airspace and territorial waters, as an indication to the PLA that they could, if they so choose, take their assets out. I remember in the run up to the 1996 Taiwan Presidential elections, the PRC similarly got their panties in a knot, and started firing missiles into Taiwan's waters. President Clinton sent the 7th carrier group ( Nimitz ) to sail through the strait of Taiwan, along with the 5th carrier group ( Independence ) as back up. I don't think anything of the sort will be tried this time as China has grown much more bold, if not more powerful militarily. But I'm sure a couple of US carrier battle groups are on their way to the area, and US Air Bases in Okinawa and others in the west pacific are on alert.

It's my duty to battle the Left (split from War Games: Russia Takes Ukraine, China Takes Taiwan. US Response?}
I noticed you said "so many of our fellow citizens", "some white men are mostly", and "many are mad". I guess that means you and CharonY get the point I was trying to make. Much appreciated. Oh, and none of this was in any way supportive of Greg A's ideas.

It's my duty to battle the Left (split from War Games: Russia Takes Ukraine, China Takes Taiwan. US Response?}
So your solution is to judge theiir 'goodness' by appearance, the same way people have judged blacks, Muslims, gays, etc. in the past ? I thought we were trying to get away from that; to build a fair equitable society where people are not judged by skin color, gender, sexual orientation, religion, etc. Is that too horizontal ? Strong association is much better than blanket statements concerning all men. Thanks for that. One of the most attractive women I can think of, is Linda Hamilton in Terminator II, carrying a Franchi SPAS shotgun. Not exactly a 'shrinking violet' relegated to the kitchen, or raising babies. Then again, my mother was a strong woman, who, unfortunately passed away young.

And I'm saying ( again ) discrimination is bad, no matter who it's applied to. We are all people, and should be treated as such. You seem to be saying that some are 'priviliged' in our society, and so it is OK to paint all 65 year old white males with the same broad brush as misogynistic, drunk,wife abusers. The argument seems to be, I want a 'horizontal ' scale applied to bigotry, while you want a 'vertical' scale, with differing levels of bigotry being applicable to different people. Am I using your terminology accurately ?

It's my duty to battle the Left (split from War Games: Russia Takes Ukraine, China Takes Taiwan. US Response?}
I see. There is nothing arbitrary about vertical fairness, or horizontal fairness. You can even assign a 'degree' of difference between the two. You are just one step away from a mathematical relationship bettween angle and 'fairness'. And I was asking Phi for elaboration, not your 'interpretation'. I guess that includes you; but I suggest you speak for yourself. And I tought that's what I was doing by politely asking some members not to paint a group with the same broad brush. Not calling anyone a shitheaad; but some of their behaviour ...

How did genetic capacity for allergies not get weeded out?
We seem to be discussing two different issues. In one case a substance is injested/absorbed/inhaled that produces a type of response which harms the system, and causes inflammation or outright cell/system death. It is a 'poison' to the cells/system. In the other case, you have essentially a harmless substance, that is injested/absorbed/inhaled, and which causes an unwanted over-reaction by the immune system. Typical would be pollen and the overproduction of hystamines by the system. ( some, like bee stings, would involve both reactions )

It's my duty to battle the Left (split from War Games: Russia Takes Ukraine, China Takes Taiwan. US Response?}
I would be careful in saying 'some men' and not simply 'men', implying all, and in which case you'd be proving Greg A right, with your gender bias. If I made disparaging comments about women, as some have about men, or a cultural group like Middle Easterners, without stipulating that it is a small subset, I'm sure the usual suspects would be handing out demerit points like Halloween candy. Just saying ... BTW, Phi, you really seem attached to this vertical hierarchy vs. horizontal group of equals. I think what is important is not the arbitrary direction that you assign to it, rather, the inherent fairness and equity. A fair monarchy is more desirable than a Marxist Politburo. ( but maybe I'm still not understanding you properly ) Further to Swansont's comments, some are so rich , they can go into orbit in their own rockets in vain attempts to outdo each other ...
