What is classical physics?
Not really. Relativity, special as well as general, is purely classical. The distinction is due to Max Planck; classical Physics has no quantization, or effects thereof.

Physics and “reality”
I would have no problem taking that step also. I only mention 'things' because the questions are always"But what is an electron, really ?" or "What is a photon ?" or possibly your favorite "But what is gravity, really ?". How would it make a difference ? Everything we see ( contingent ) affects us through interactions. That which is not contingent does not affect us through interactions. IOW, whether it is there or not makes absolutely no difference to us, or the world around us. Why is it needed in our models, and, by Occam, why is it needed at all ? ( argument applies to religion/mysticism as well )

Sure. The version described in your link is a 'developed' version, JDAM-ER ( extended range ). Developed for Australia, it features fold-out hi-aspect rato wings for greater glide distance, facilitating greater stand-off deployment. It has a range of approx. 40 mi. whereas a standard JDAM has to get much closer to its target to deploy, as it has a typical range of 10-15 mi.

Physics and “reality”
Very much with you on this, Swansont. Physical models describe what 'things' do, not what they are. Our two most successful models make such accurate predictions that people, even Physicists, start thinking they are describing actual 'reality' They couldn't be farther from the 'truth'. As you already stated, Quantum Field Theory decribes 'reality' as fields on fields, all on a fixed background stage. General Relativity ( and LQG ) go one better and take away the fixed background stage to be replaced by ( another ) geometric field, which can be affected by the other fields. So where is the 'reality ?

No. I had two, but one sister passed away 2 years ago. The other is now very lonely and very needy. Oh, and all my furniture needs replacing because it's all scratched.

Believe those are called “missiles.” Not so much for added range, but newer bombs are not free-fall or ballistic, they are laser guided or have GPS guidance, which means they need a way to steer, hence, the control surfaces. See here Joint Direct Attack Munition - Wikipedia

Interesting. I would have thought you'd get the best range from a glider design, with very high aspect ratio wings ( ratio of span to chord ), which would allow for low loss of altitude with distance. I would have never thought a hypersonic design to be capable of sustaining the needed lift. PS I'm sure Airbus can do better 😀 .

Too many tangents (bots, trolls and socks, oh my!)
Due Process ??? I say round them up, and re-locate them to another forum. ( as was recently proposed with the homeless )

Should Homeless Addicts Be Removed From Cities?
Fair market value, or more accurately, just compensation, is decided by the courts, not the Government. Not that it would make much differene in the US, as the final arbitrer, the Supreme Court, is in the 'pocket' of the party that appointed them.

The last train derrailment was not that bad...
Turns out the problem that led to the New Palestine derailment, and subsequent burning of Vinyl Chloride, Di-isobutylene, etc., coould have been avoided had reccomendations from previous derailments been implemented; brakes on every axle of the cars. But the rail industry lobbied heavily the previous orange haired President, who waived the reccomendations. Just another of D Trump's wonderful legacies.

Homophobia, nature or nurture?
I feel for you, my friend. But that's a fight I can't fight

I don't know, Stringy. "Vernacular" sounds obscene and offensive to me ... 😄 😄

No Joke. Did you read about the derailment in New Palestine, Ohio ? I work in the chemical industry, with Phosphorus and Phosphine, on a daily basis, but that one rattled wven my nerves.

Should Homeless Addicts Be Removed From Cities?
I really hate disagreeing with Swansont because ( he's usually right ) I only have Southern ontario to draw my conclusions from. The 'cost' of building a house is not just the 'cost of building' that house. While the cost of lumber has doubled in the last two years, other costs, for trades, excavating, foundation, plumbing, electrical, etc, have not risen that much in the Niagara Region. On the other hand, lot prices have skyrocketed in this area, during the last 5 years. A building lot that used to cost $50000, now sells for $250000. Unless this is park land or protected land owned by the municipality or the Province, you can forget about the 'low cost' part of your housing plan. The only way it becomes attractively priced again, is if the land to be used is in an area that no one else wants. In other words, we are back to relocating people away from city centers. The economics make this unavoidable.

Homophobia, nature or nurture?
I fully understand that, and that is not the issue. My post was in response to And I must admit a mistake. I read it as 'dehumanize' in my hurry, instead of 'demonize'. My apologies; but why was offense taken ? I have my own ideas as to why 'wokeness' is not looked on favorably like 'enlightenment' of the 17-8 century, but that is a subject for another thread.

Neutrino Disconnect
Seems the insult is well deserved; I didn't say 'massless', I said 'weightless' ( big dfference ). Tell you what; let's do a little experiment ... Next time you go sky diving, bring a bathroom scale with you. As you are falling, place it under your feet. If it reads anything other than zero, I will publicly apologize to you. If it reads zero, you will publicly admit you are a 'crank'. Deal ?

Should Homeless Addicts Be Removed From Cities?
I did like Peterkin's breakdown of problems associated with building large numbers of affordable housing in, near, or far from, major cities with large homeless populations. Also I would think that for the first year or two, recovering addicts don't need the stress of a job, nor a public transit system to get to one. That can come later, after de-tox, when they have the confidence to get back into the 'rat race'.

Should Homeless Addicts Be Removed From Cities?
Due process involves a reasonable hope for defense against a charge. But is someone like D Trump gets elected again, and with the help of his cronies on the Supreme Court, passes a bill making living on the stret, with no fixed address, a minimum 2 year prison term, a lot of people are going to jail. So no, I'm not trolling you, but I've been discussing stuff with you for 12 years and I've gotten used to it. And you have made a proposal; build more housing. it was that proposal that made me question where you would build the housing, and whether it would involve re-location similar to Alex's plan.

Should Homeless Addicts Be Removed From Cities?
We can't relocate our homeless to Europe, Studiot; Republicans would see that as free 'vacations' for the homeless, while Democrats see it as internment at Auschwitz. My home area in South Central Italy ( Irpinia region ) has hundreds, if not thousands of abandoned houses. People relocate where the jobs are ( Rome and North ) leaving windows and doors open. Houses 'abandoned' so pay no taxes. Many parts of Southern Italy offer houses for 1 euro. Then again, everyone wants to visit Italy, no one wants to actually live there.

Should Homeless Addicts Be Removed From Cities?
It is not a red herring; simply an example of how quickly due process can become irrelevant, and something that was legal can become illegal at the whim of a fewpeople. Start paying attention to the details. Your 'cure for homelessness is to build more affordable housing; seems like a no-brainer. Where will you build them ? In prime downtown real estate where the cost of building and the room to build would be prohibitive, or are you also going to 'relocate' the homeless to areas where there is room for a lot of housing to be built, and for reasonable prices ? Sound like you are planningJewish ghettos and NAZI camps also ...
-
Should Homeless Addicts Be Removed From Cities?
Equating Alex's plan with NAZI concentration camps or Jewish ghettos is a gross abuse of the 'slippery slope' argument. Really ? You have to ask ? Where is 'due process' for women who could decide what to do with their own bodies last year, yet, are now criminals if they get an abortion ? ( because half a dozen SCJustices decided so )

Should Homeless Addicts Be Removed From Cities?
whatever the causes this is a problem that is growing. And not just for homeowners where the homeless choose to make their encampments, but much more so for the homeless themselves. Solutions need to be found and discussins need to be had. And while I ( and many others ) don't agree with Alex's methods and ideas, it did open the door for discussion involving people like Markus who have first hand experience in the field. The worst thing that can happen is shutting down the much needed discussion ( especially by city councils and governments ) because someone suggests an unpalatable idea.

Should Homeless Addicts Be Removed From Cities?
Our Liberal Government decriminalized cannabis products here in Canada, with Government oversight on the growers, middlemen, and local dispensories. The result has been that you can get a widervariety of products ( gummies, creams, rtc.) but a baggie of smokable is more expensive than from a street level supplier. ( we are also allowed to grow 4 plants per person for personal use ) I only mention this because you wrote 'conservative' instead of 'republican', as it should be.
