  1. I heard that it would not make that much (strategic) difference. Don't know the reasoning behind that. Can China afford to take the side of Russia against Europe?
  3. Skip outside or you may divide half the crockery into pieces. I often use the leftovers and incorporate them into tomorrow's meal but broken bits of china would probably send me to the dentist's chair and reduce my bank balance.
  4. I was wondering whether the direction of the resultant wave differs from the other 2 waves and if that might cause a slow down. And what about the interactions with particles .Do they slow down the wave ? Is what I though, too but the waves from the electron are not moving in the same direction as the light wave ,are they?
  5. Ah yes ,but the distinction btw the quantum and the classical model is far from second nature to me. But thanks for the reminder.
  6. So interactions with particles don't "hold up" the passage of the light? It is the presence of electrons which create their own wave which interferes with the light wave, producing a resultant wave to move at a speed lower than c?
  7. As I heard it light moves either at c or at zero with no other speed in between.Everything between interactions is the vacuum where the speed of light is c and I confess to knowing very little of the processes that actually go on during interactions with the medium,or how long 1 such interaction might take (which slows down the overall speed of light in any particular medium)
  8. Shiny bright objects are not always what they seem to be. "A shape-shifting robot that looks like a cross between a Lego figure and the T-1000 from Terminator 2 has been filmed melting itself to escape through the bars of a miniature jail cell." https://www.bbc.com/news/av/world-us-canada-64668021
  9. Our enemies have honied voices 😀
  10. That seems to me a de facto belief that there are more important matters to occupy one's time. (It is only when these seemingly quaint belief systems infringe upon one's political freedoms that mindset becomes a kind of head in the sand)
  11. So the title of the thread should be changed to."Anti-theism ,nature or nurture" Rather confusing otherwise. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antitheism "I'm not even an atheist so much as I am an antitheist; I not only maintain that all religions are versions of the same untruth, but I hold that the influence of churches, and the effect of religious belief, is positively harmful." Christopher Hitchens
  12. Hey ,I am starting to find this thread a bit distasteful(and how do we define "tossed"?) 😀

Will Nikki Haley be in John Bolton's best books seeing that he will be 75 in November and so will have to pass her proposed Senior's mental competence test if he wants to be President?
  15. That is how I feel about people who do things differently from me.They are wrong. I live in an egocentric world that I have to reason myself out of on a continuous basis 😀
  16. We would have to ask a similar question of "heterophobia" https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/heterophobia I don't think (m)any would claim that such behaviour had a "nature" component. It is all very murky .. maybe just a "self uber alles" part of human nature?

I saw Bolton on CNN about an hour ago attacking the administration for allowing it to pass over US territory on the basis that it may have had a nuclear bomb in its payload. Seems a bit of a fanciful argument. Was he scraping the dregs of his powers of argumentation?

Living in the past seems to be a near guarantee of failure in warfare .(there must be exceptions but I can't think of anything obvious)

What is good for the goose is good for the gender. Is spying a good thing a priori? If foreign countries keep secrets that are potentially detrimental to one's own is it not natural to spy(and also to discourage spying)?
  23. Here is one I just copied and pasted from iNow's other site A charro, with his big hat, his boots and his gun hanging on his waist went to a bar and approaching approaching the counter asked for a double shot of tequila. While the bartender was filling the glass, a beautiful woman took a seat on his right. The charro took another shot and started to flirt with the woman. She didn't show any interest on him. So, he presented himself as Juan. -Hey, bonita, mi nombre es Juan, do you see? I have my hat, my boots, my gun, I'm a mero mero charro. And you, what is your name? The woman had a beer and answered him with total indifferece. -My name is Albert. -Albert?! -replied the charro, but... I think that is a male name. -I will explain to you -said the woman- I'm a lesbian. -A lesbian?! -asked again the charro - and, what is to be a lesbian? -I will tell you this way: I love women, I always look for having a date with a woman, I dream with women. My deeper wishes are to have a different woman having sex with me every night. - She ended her beer, left a tip over the counter and left the place. The charro had some more double shots of tequilas. A group of young men who just came into the bar at that moment and saw him and approached him. - Hey! Look at here! A charro! Look at his hat... his boots... his gun... -said one of the young men. With great curiosity they asked: - Sir, excuse us please, but... are you a charro?... a real charro? -I'm not sure anymore- replied the other very pensive- I think... I think I'm a lesbian.
  24. If that is the case then we do not seem to have any corresponding greater than c speed out to which we could extrapolate even in theory(I think) Any discussion I have heard centres on how we might detect a tachyon if it existed.(no ref, sorry)
  25. Slow posting speeds suit my slow brain(even then I struggle)
