Well yesterday in chem class my teacher mixed powders together and they began to mix into like a paste. However he doing this on a board with water under the beaker. When he lifted up the beaker the board was frozen to it and he measured the temp of the solution and it was -40 C..... I was really cool... Now i was wondering are there two chemicals or more that can mix together as liquids and freeze instantly... So as soon as you put the liquids together they are completly frozen?

Im a smart kid and a quick learner, as well as being interested in the subject. so, any tips on where/how i could start learning chemistry? thanks for any ideas.

Hello Everyone, I am a student from California State University East Bay (formally known as Cal State Hayward). My group and I are currently conducting market research on spectroscopy as part of a course requirement in our entrepreneurship course. More specifically, we are studying the uses of infrared technology in institutions, pharmaceutical industries, and other research industries from a marketing point of view. We have created an online questionnaire in regards to the applicable uses of infrared technology. The questionnaire contains 17 short questions plus a comment section at the end for any additional information you may be able to provide. The questionn…

In my chemistry clase I had to proform an experiement that proved avogadro's law Equal volumes of gases under the same temperature and pressure contain equal numbers of molecules. no i need ot know why this is significant in the relm of chemistry as a conclusion i am not a quimico and have no idea why the volume of 1 mole at STP is 58.016 cm3 of Hydrogen gas is important

Can anyone suggest a titration (or other experiment) to measure the acidity of orange juice? The main problem that I'm faced with is that using an indicator, it is hard to notice the colour change since the orange juice itself is coloured. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I would like to know some cool easy experiments i could do. I have a large assortment of chemicals and lab equipent. Stuff id like to do is synthesis (of simple stuff even) precip. reactions, things like making gases, making color chagimg reactions, etc. Pretty much any hobby-chemiust should kno wat i mean. Thx for the infoooo

Have any of you had a professor that told you, and the entire class, on several occasions "This will not be on your exam" only to make at least a quarter of the final exam exactly on what he told you he would not put on it? I had that happen to me this morning for my organic chemistry exam, and I just wanted to know if this prof's just a jerk, or if this stuff happens more often than I think.

Imagine a perfect steel cube in 2 halves with a tiny cavity in the center of it, enough to fit perfectly a quantity of explosive. these steel halfves are then bolted together perfectly, and the explosive is of a quantity not large enough to rupture the steel container or allow any gasses out. the products of detonation from this explosive X are Carbon Dioxide and Nitrogen, only. what will happen when to explosive X when triggered (I`ll avoid the term detonate as I`m uncertain if it will). I have many ideas in my head as to what will happen, ranging from detonation and liquification of the gasses, to compressing the inner cavity of the steel into a new subs…

I dont think that this is the right forum, but I figured that since you have bunsen burners in the chem lab......... Anyways, I was wondering, is there anyway to attach one of those jets that are in the lab onto a mini propane tank? If so, where can i obtain a jet. I cant stand using my alcohol burner anymore, it can barely boil water. Thanks!

What would you predict to be the approximate chemical shifts for the following molecule? I just turned my room upside down trying to find an old sheet, and the one that I do have seems to be a little off. Help please?

When copper(II)pentahydrate (CuSO4.5H2O) is heated, the deep blue color changes to the white color of the anhydrous salt (CuSO4). Why does this happen?....I know it has something to do with the splitting of d-orbitals....anyone know?

i was thinking that if you have a more concentrated acid then there are more parts acid per part water. going by that surely a higher concentration would therefore produce more yield or end product. because there'd be more acid for the other reactant to react with... however in a recent experiment i did i found that varying concentration varies the rate of reaction, but does not vary the total yield produced... i was wondering why that is?

I was wondering if anybody knew how to purify Activated Carbon in the lab. It's ash content is about 4% which i know is small but we still need to bring it down further. Dissolving in acids doesn't remove all the residue. any ideas?

Hi there this is my first thread in this forum, firstly thank you all very much. one time i read about making kno3 from (manure,dirt,ashes,..etc) and i have found the way in this forum before i enjoy it, but the way was so difficult for me because the steps of it have no explain it was so simplified(too short) so of course i have too many mistakes, the thing i need from you friends to explain this way for me more and more and if you can add some pics,or something else, or to find me this way on a good website and with a good explaning and to be easy to do... i attached the file that i got from this forum in the past but it is not explain everything, you will find some…

I am reading the book Quicksilver which has the running theme of alchemy and natural philosphy. Well, at one point someone discovers that you can get this cool stuff that glows by boiling some urine, so it gets demonstrated in the courts. Anyway, can you realy extract phosphorus from urine? If so, how? Has anyone here done it?

if you have an exothermic reaction then heat is given out. so temperature increases... temp change is a positive value yet delta(temperature) will give you a negative number because the change in temperature, final temp value is greater than the initial temp. value, so the temperature change = initial temp - final temp = negative number. so we have: positive change for temperature negative delta(temperature) why is the change in temperature (delta) is negative whilst there is a positive change?
