Hello everyone ! I'm Hugo. I'm a french high school student. This year I've a project on new way to store electricity and their materials.I've done researches on super capacitors. But I've found only that "new way" to store electric energy. And for the material part, I don't know what I can search. So, could you help me ? Do you know other way to store electric energy except battery and super capacitor ? And could you tell me things like how materials are chosen for battery, why a material is a good conductor... ? Thanks in advance. Hugo

hi to all, i have some questions about glass silvering;i found this procedure:1) make a solution (A) with 1.4 gr silver nitrate + 17gr waterthen, add to the solution 1.2gr of ammonia 26% solution2) make a solution (B) with 9.2 gr potassium bitartrate + 4gr sodium carbonate + 17gr water3) make a solution (C) made of 5gr (A) + 5gr (B) + 100gr water4) put a very clean glass sheet (*) in solution (C) , and leave it in the solution until the glass silvering is done.(*) the glass must be very clean before silvering :to clean it, wash it with a 6% tin chloride solution, then rinse it with hot water. The author claims that with this procedure is possible to silver also plastic…

Hello everyone, I have to establish a recipe for preparation of a 1 M citrate-phosphate buffer pH 7.4, which should be composed of Na2HPO4 and citric acid. Both ingredients should be at sufficiently high concentrations to allow for preparation of the 1M solution at a final volume of approx. 50 to 200 mL. However, I am unfortunately not familiar with buffer calculations for chemistry. Also, on the web I have only found recipes for diluted versions of this buffer, that is also known as McIlvaine buffer and I am aware that there exist other buffer systems which are more suitable for buffering at a pH of 7.4. Please can you help me and propose me a recipe for a 1 …

Jupiter is made of hydrogen and helium or so I learned. These are the same gases present in the sun. Why doesn't jupiter explode or give birth to starts as nebulae do. Jupiter has even been supplied ignition several times when comets hit it and explode. Why doesn't the entire planet explode then. Another question, in absolute zero temperature and vacuum conditions, given enough time, can any gases or other organic material produce itself.

Hi, I'm having a hard time finding information on this and have searched the internet many times with no luck. I’m in a self-employment program and the path for the business I chose to start is the manufacturing of ammonia based smelling salts directed towards the fitness/sports industry (powerlifting, crossfit, etc), but in bottle form as opposed to the traditional snap open ampule type. I have done enough research to know that the ammonia gas is produced when water is added to a mixture of ammonium chloride and sodium carbonate, so basically I’m just trying to confirm if this is correct along with a few other things. • Is the sodium carbonate and ammonium chl…

Hello guys i am having a problem regarding schiffs reagent.....as we know schiffs reagent is used to test for aldehydes or you can say formalin. The Problem is that schifs reagent when acidified with Dilute HCL gives pink color with natural as well as formalin containing milk and also with the protein albumin...i want it to react with just formalin in the milk...please help me with this problem...ThanksP.S: Schiffs reagent should not give colour in natural milk as it does not contain Aldehydes....moreover if there is some alternative reagent for the same detection you can tell me that also....

I have a Papermate "Titanium" mechanical pencil. It's about a $4 pencil with a white eraser if that helps guess the chemistry. It is roughly 15-18 years old and has been used in various temperatures and also sat for long periods in a drawer during it's time since purchase. I probably have not used the eraser in maybe 2 years, but I definitely used it, including erasing, 2 years (or so) ago. I went to erase something yesterday and it was kind of sticking to the paper. On looking at it, getting curious, and squeezing it, I found that the eraser had become like a thick bubble gum. It actually has the consistency of a kneaded (charcoal art) eraser, but not the functional…

Hi all, Newbie to this great forum with a vapor trap question. I have distilled nitric acid several times recently - both using my vacuum pump and without. I really like the vacuum distillation method but want to perfect this technique with the inclusion of a vapor cold trap. I use a Gast vacuum pump - a great lab equipment that was bought used for $20, and do not want to damage the pump when used and being exposed to vapors. There is almost nothing about cold trap / vapor traps on the Tube or elsewhere for information on the subject. I've found items on ebay that sell from hundreds to as small as twenty dollars, but do not know enough about the items …

I have worked in a laboratory of a winery where I analyzed the free and total sulfur dioxide in wine with a manual titrator by the Ripper method. This method is usually a simple iodine titration where iodine reacts with sulfur dioxide according to the following equation: SO2+ I2+ 2H2O⟶ H2SO4+ 2HI The reagents used in the method I followed are slightly modified. Instead of titrating the wine sample acidified with sulfuric acid against an iodine solution, I titrated it against a solution of potassium iodide (a starch indicator is used to see the color change and distilled water is added to the sample). I have thought of the following equations to repres…

Hi Science Forum friends, I'm Ashley, an independent feature film producer, director and writer. I'm making my third feature film that involves a chemical engineer turned spy who is trying to evade assassination (she's expecting to be taken out by a nerve agent). Sounds dramatic, I know - but I suppose noir psychological spy thrillers should be a bit dramatic, right? As it stands I've written some material that sees my spy collecting drugs from a pharmacy, including naloxone, to mix with an unidentified chemical compound given to her by her spy ring leader. The idea is she administers the cocktail to herself (dropping a few drops in her coffee every da…

hi, i am new here. Thx for having this forum. i am learning about oxygen measurement device and i find it difficult to understand about clarck electrode. i don't understand why does clarck electrode need an external power source? i did find a literature that answer this, but it made me more confuse. it says " the electrode potentials of the anode and cathode produce a small voltage difference between them which opposes the flow of electrons from anode to cathode. This is because the silver anode is electropositive relative to the cathode. A polarizing voltage supply of 0.6 Volts is used, which removes electrons from the anode and supplies them to the cathode…

Hello i was trying to build a fuel saver system for my small engine 5.5hp 4 stroke. Its a fuel vapor system. But without going into to much detail about it, because at this point i think i have something good and dont want to tell many people about it. All i need to know is when my fuel vapor system is in operation it gets super cold and my engine dose not like it. What i am asking is, if i put to much air through Petroleum dose it go in a cold state. Or what happens to it. If i add heat from the exhaust will that bring it back to normal.

This is a story originaly written by a chemistry student (and later, a worker) that describes the chemical accidents he has encountered in his career (some of them funny, others not so much). It was first posted in the chinese forum [baidu tieba], which has then been reprinted countless times on other forums. So I figured I could share this story with you english speakers, since I am a chinese but I also understand english quite well. still I may make some errors in grammar, so please forgive those. for credit purposes, this is the chinese post I decided to translate http://blog.sina.com.cn/s/blog_6e45082d0102vwqh.html So here we go. The first incident…

Heating these common sachets in an oven for a given amount of time is supposed to make them hygroscopic again, is that right? What if in a microwave oven ? Would it equally work or has to be some specific 'material/formulation' ? An educated guess would work, as I have no means to confirm its hygroscopy after the 'treatment' Or, which household product can be used instead, it is to prevent condensation in a 0.25 litre sealed canister with electronics that will be exposed to cold. Edit: If any moderator can correct the spelling in the title; thanks.
