  3. I know there're two ways in which catalyst works--adsorption and by forming intermediate compounds. Simply, a catalyst stick to the surface of the reactant and increases their chances of collide with each other. That increases the reaction rate because the speed in which a reaction occurs is depends upon the rate in which the molecules collide. Is it because of their electron configuration that they don't react(catalyst)?

    I came across an article on Polarized Hydrogen on the internet but only one. I am curious if any one has any more information on it. What I read was that at very cold temperatures Hydrogen will spin at high rates polorize itself and emit energy. Does anyone know of any more studies concerning it or is it false.

    Has anyone else noticed the "theoretical gap" between organic and inorganic chemistry? For example, the geometries of main group, and organic compounds can be approximated with the VSEPR theory. However, this breaks down in the d-block. d-block coordination chemistry requires the use of the Kepert model, Ligand Field Theory, or Crystal Field Theory [Equivalent to MO theory in the main group]. I'm quite familiar with all of this stuff, but it has always bothered me that there is not at least some "pseudo-unified" model of chemical bonding.   7. I've got a friend who has a sonicator/de-gasser, whatever you want to call it in his house. He told me that he would like to see what would happen if he sonicated an un-opened bottle of champagne; I need to know if that would be dangerous? I mean it would obviously make a huge mess, but would there be any actual danger in doing that?

  10. Hello, just wondering about ionic compounds and why they come together to form crystalline lattice structures (when they are solid.) It seems to me that in order to form a crystalline lattice structure, each molecule (or formula unit) needs to be attracted to each other. And since NaCl, for example, is supposed to have a neutral charge, one molecule of NaCl should not be attracted to another NaCl molecule (or anything else for that matter.) I can understand covalently bonded compounds being attracted to one another and clumping together, since they share electrons and will be slightly polar due to the sharing.     Hi, I'm working on a science fair project on Alzheimer's and it's basically all about the protein Tau being hyperphosphorylated... I know in this particular case, that phosphorylation is used to activate this protein (tau), and that kinases and phosphatases that add and take awat those phosphates. The only requirement is that it be something with food, and that we have an actual hypothesis (i.e. don't just make your experiment "I wonder how many antioxidants are in blueberries").   20. I'm wondering if there is any way to purify (remove stabilizers/impuritys) Hydrogen peroxide. I've searched the forums and only seen people trying to concentrate H202, not interested in concentrating it just purifying it. I use peroxide for various things including as a mouth wash after i brush my teeth, my concerns are it says on the bottle along with using it as a mouth wash not to use it for longer then a week.   21. Hi: If all other factors are constant, does a lower pH indicate more entropy than a higher pH? I ask because chemical reactions that lead to a decrease in order, often increase the acidity of the environment. For example, our consumption of fuel increases the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere.   23. I have a bottle of lotion on my nightstand (don't ask) along with some pennies. Occasionally, some of the lotion spills on the pennies, and the lotion turns green.     Hey guys. New to this forum...first post. I have looked endlessly to try and find out how to make this material but apparently no one knows how...or has no reason to try. Ill keep it pretty simple. Im trying to accomplish what this guy did in this video. Basically needs to be an opaque gel like material that when you run something across it or put something ontop of it it move away...and then it moves back. http://inventorspot.com/articles/delightable_excites_and_delights_8050 I've experimented with some ridiculous househould chemicals with lackluster results. Either it's too thick and won't return back or it's too watery and looks like crap. Any ideas?
