Somebody have an idea of the average density (kg/cm³) of animals ? More specifically; aquatic mammals. I know it depends on many factors, and it's not the same value for all animals, but I'm looking for an educated guess.

I heard this on the news today, and immediately thought it was a first sighting...not so, the clouded leopard of Borneo has been overlooked as a new species for over a century. Please see the article below. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070315/ap_on_sc/borneo_clouded_leopard

Alright, so I am doing a Science Fair project on the Ginkgo Biloba tree. Problem is, I can't find a list of smino acids for it, or the other three trees I am comparing it to. So here is what I am doing: Question: how does the Ginkgo Biloba compare to other trees in seed form, youth, and adulthood? Research: compare similar and different amino acids and DNA analysis of three other trees with the Ginkgo. (Hard part.) Expiriments: Compare the seed of a Ginkgo tree with the seeds of other, the young leaves of the Ginkgo with the leaves of the others, and the full grown leaves of the Ginkgo with the others. (Other trees; Maple, Oak, Conifer.) So my trouble is i…

  5. First of all let me tell you, I have a serious beef with Glenn Branch at this time. I have been sending e-mail correspondence back and forth to Glenn Branch. For the simple fact that I do not have my abstract put onto the internet (per my preferential choice!), Mr. Branch has decided to not include me on the Project Steve list. I'm an Evolutionist, and my degree is from New Jersey City University with a doctorate in Cell Biology. How did I get a degree from New Jersey City University in Cell Biology? The answer is very simple. I took courses at another university that basically would not allow my credits to transfer to their school at the time I was going to New Jer…

Realistically speaking on genetics what do you think humanity could really do with it. Now not to be entirely based in the realm of science fiction could genetics ever be a fountain of youth? What about taking the place of modern day machinery, such as transportation? Do you think genetics when understood in some absolute fashion will be able to aid people in space exploration? Overall I personally always thought that genetics or understanding it fully could unlock almost limitless potential in many regards, but then something always nags on me that such is not the case, so I thought I might just ask around for other opinions about my own opinion of genetics.

Hi everyone. I want to do an experiment on the growth of a certain kind of bacteria in acidic and basic environments. I have 2 questions: 1. How do I obtain a pure culture of just one kind of bacteria, without any contamination (preferably a non-pathogenic bacteria)? Do I need a sterilized lab for this? 2. How do I go about setting up the acidic and basic environments? I have pre-prepared agar plates at school that I will use. Do I just dump acid or base all over it? Or do I use some other way (like using the little discs of filter paper)? Thanks and excuse my ignorance. I know NOTHING about this.

Are there any medical whizz kids who can answer a question? In the last five years, I have had two medical check ups involving blood tests. Both times, my total cholesterol was rated as a little above the ideal. However, my low density lipoprotein (bad cholesterol) was very low, and my high density lipoprotein (good cholesterol) was very high, thus raising the total to the point which is supposed to be a little too much. Both doctors told me that my HDL was too high and I had to get it down. Neither told me why, or how. A google search had lots of references saying how good it is to have lots of HDL. Can anyone please tell me why it is bad to have too m…

I don’t know if this is the right place for it, so if the admins disagree that is fine of course. Over my lifetime I never knew that theology was so widely held. I grew up with an interest in life and at eight years of age I was making field journals and drawings of various life forms such as birds or slugs for instance. Dinosaurs and the entire variety of scientific knowledge was my normal reality. I was sadly wrong. As I have come into contact with more and more people I have found that science and its endeavors don’t have that much of a sway on culture as say theology. Not to say this is wrong but I do follow that a fact based reality is the best reality. I…

I would like to know this for a project im doing. What substance should I draw in.. say on a piece of paper, so that blood would follow it? So say that X substance, if I draw a line on the table/paper and drop a drop of blood onto that line, that blood should fill that line up without going over too much. Thank you for the help, and ideas.

Hi, I was doing experiment of extracting out plasmid DNA from E.Coli. I'm wondering why do we need to centrifuge the bacteria pallet at 4 degree celcius initially and at room temperature at near end of the experiment. My deduction is that at 4 degree celcius, all the enzymes present will stop its activity. This cool temperature will also prevent overheating of rotor. Can someone clarify this for me? Is there another conditions that tell us what temperature we should use for centrifugation? Thanks in advance for anyone who replies this message.

I had to write a one page essay and i would like to know if someone here could read it and tell me if i answered the question properly. write an essay discussing protiens , nucleic acids and carbohydrates as examples of polomers. give examples of polomeric forms of each biomolecule. i dentify the given examples of the monomeric units. what are the main functions of these three types of biomolecule ? Nucleic acids are very high polymers joined by ester linkages between phosphoric acid and sugar monomer units. The nucleic acid molecule directs the sequencing of amino acids in the synthesis of protein as well as its own reproduction. Protein polymers are sequential p…
