I need a basic layout on how to go about answering this type of question. You have available an Hfr lac- ala+ vitB+ tetS strain of E. coli and an F- lac+ ala- vitB- tetS strain. You also have a P1 transducing phage and a tube of plasmids with a gene for tetracycline resistance. These are the only supplies you can use ( besides media and reagents). Describe how you can isolate a pure strain of E . coli lac+ ala + vitB+ tetR, where all genes of interest are present in the chromosome of the bacterium. Include gene transfer steps you would use, as well as the media ( m9 or Lb) you would use to select for successful gene transfers Would appreciate any help as soon as …

  3. Hi, I was wondering if anyone would know why there would be different beta-arrestin dynamics with the same GPCR constructs when tested in two different cell lines: HEK293 and Neuro-2a cells. All conditions are the same i.e. temperature, agonist concentration etc. The only difference is the cell type. Thanks

  4. Does any one know were the growth gene is located in our body? There is a gene to controll how tall we are correct? Hormones are turned on by genes correct? Well, just wondering if i modify the gene for growth , could i make my self taller or not? Im sure you can because people have differant genes for their growth because not everyone is the same hieght correct? So, just tell me the location of the genes or are genes located in differant areas or are they in same location as everyones? Thanks.

For a project, my teacher assigned a writing assignment where we are supposed to explain how Males and Females came to exist separately, but mess perfect with one another. I think my teacher may be a pro religion, but I don't know for sure. But I am having a hard time finding answers to the questions that we are supposed to use in our paper. Did males come from females? Did males and females sprout up at exactly the same time? Males and females are so different so how did they evolve to match perfectly? If there wasn't both male and female at exactly the same time, to evolve at the same time, then the whole process dies in one generation? etc. etc. I was readi…

Hi you guys, I’ve just got a problem about bacteria shape. At first, I’ve got a broth tube, which has 2 types of bacteria, with Streptococcus in it as a picture below. I’m pretty sure they’re Streptococcus. But after I’ve streaked my plate, it seems like they’re Staphylococcus. As it is a cluster shape. (As picture below) In my opinion, I think it is Streptococcus. Maybe it looks like cluster shape because they’re coiled freely. What do you guys think? Is it possible that Streptococcus can coiled freely that they look like Staphylococcus? Thanks for your answer. I’m very appreciated. Ps. You don't have to consider gram staining. Ps2. If you need …

Why is pneumonia more common during colder months? Could some pneumonia cases be caused by cold air inflaming the lungs and not an infection? This scientific report (from Page on ncbi.gov) says there is a higher incidence (+15%) in cold months. The article implies that cold air can cause pneumonia. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24989619

From my own observations I noticed that all around the world there is a very strong preference for fair skin over dark for, especially for women - it is so strong that it transcends all cultures and is present since thousands of years in some places (China, India). Some nations literally spend billions of $ each year to have skin just one shade paler than what they naturally got. Am I wrong - or maybe there's some evolutionarily-inbuilt mechanism that makes people like pale skin more, similar to the one that makes women with large breasts appear more attractive?

What I want to know is that, is there anyway for me to get directly into the PhD program if I score first class honours(Above 70% aggregate into my BSc) or would I HAVE TO do the masters to learn more into Microbiology?<Which is what I'm more Inclining on. Yes I am aiming high. I just wanna get in a lab and do research. Just love the idea. 5 years is a long time.

We have very limited equipments in the lab so the growth must be either in flasks or petri dishes. Any suggestion for such an experiment ? What kind of parameters can be followed and what kinds of optimizations can be made?

  19. Sexual imprinting is the process whereby a parental figure imprints physical and psychological characteristics on its offspring so that when an individual reaches sexual maturity it finds its self attracted to mates that resemble their parent. This makes a lot of sense from an evolutionary perspective because if an individual reaches sexual maturity there parents presumably did something right. Still an unsettling thought when thought about in the context of human psychology. Of course there has been a lot of theorizing about 'The Oedipus Complex', as coined by Sigmund Freud. The idea being that young children, particularly boys, become possessive over their parent of t…

Many people say life begins at conception. Actually it begins before that. Every sperm cell, egg cell and blood cell in our bodies are alive. The much more important question is when does that life become a human? That is the topic I am interested in. At what point can you say "that's a human". I know answer 3 is vague. I would have said "it's a human when it's viable to live on it's own" But I was afraid that would leave some wanting to say none of the above. The way I see this, the building of a human is gradual. It starts off as a fertilized egg. Then becomes more complex as the fetus develops. It may be a human when it is viable outside the mother. I do not …

Could velociraptors climb trees? I know that Jurassic Park depicts their claws as tools for killing people (not that the movie's been all that accurate), but maybe they could also be used for climbing to treetops. After all, if this is one of the dinosaurs that gave way to modern birds, velociraptor would need a good place to rest, assuming it could fly at all.

Firstly hear the testimony of retired Surgeon David Halpin http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JBYAy1eyZI The official inquest (I say again THE OFFICIAL INQUEST) found that the police started the investigation into Dr David Kelly's death BEFORE Kelly had been reported missing. They called it OPERATION MASON. You will notice that Dr David Halpin mentions (in 2011) the Chilcott Inquiry the results of this inquiry will not be announced until AFTER the UK general elections in 2015 . Nobody bleeds to death from the cutting of the ulna artery so says several surgeons who have treated attempted suicide cases Does anyone disagree with this?
