  1. -Staphylococcus sciuri -Paenibacillus glucanolyticus -Bacillus circulans In relation to humans, of course. My understanding is that P. glucanolyticus is just a type of Bacillus circulans, but I'm no expert so I may be wrong. Just been doing a bit of reading. Also, in what amounts would these have to be found to be harmful? Or does that not even matter? I read something about Staphylococcus sciuri being harmful if there are over 100,000 CFU/mL, but not sure if that makes sense. I really appreciate any help with this. Thanks!

  4. Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) have taken over lighting because they are more energy efficient and can provide better lighting than incandescent bulbs. The body's biological clock works in rhythms that are set by the amount of light and dark the body is exposed to. Therefore does LED light interrupt our normal sleep paterns?

I'm having trouble figuring out whether or not what I'm deciding to do for my experiment would work Or not. My experiment is testing whether or not cells become desensitized to insulin. Pretty much what I'm going to do is get liver cells(I hope) and have different cells in glucose concentration, then add insulin to them until the glucose levels come back to normal. So pretty much I'll be testing if over time, the cells stop taking in glucose due to them becoming desensitized to the insulin. Please give me feedback on whether this would actually work or not, and if it does, tell me whether it's the right way to do it, or if it's even a good experiment to run. Thank you an…

Disclaimer: Sorry if my post is not in the right place or for any mistakes. This is my first post. I am saying this with the assumption that we are in global change which is causing major extinctions. Also ethics are not the main concern here. I do not want ethics or global warming to be the main topic of discussion. I make the assumption that we cannot stop the changes made by people to the environment. Point of view: With that aside. In younger grades the ecosystem is taught as being something like a tower made of tiny blocks. Each block being something like and organism or a material. When you remove a block from this tower sometimes it can cause it to fall. This…

  11. Hello guys. Thank you for your attention! Did anybody do NSF before? I came across some problems in this test. Hope you could give your opinions. The protocol I used: 1. Deprive mice (C57BL/6) of food for 24h/16h. 2. Put one mouse to a white box ( 50x37x20cm) with 2cm bedding, and a filter paper with one pellet on it in the centre. The light intensity I use is ~1100/~1400 when measured in the centre. 3. Start the stopwatch once the mouse is in the box, and stop it as soon as the mouse sits in the centre and starts to eat. The problem is almost all the mice ate very quickly, so the latency to eat was very low (~30-150seconds). However, in most articles, the la…

  12. As much as the hype goes for crispr technique it's simply an enzyme with a molecular scissor that is able to indentify a correct strand of DNA. Now if we can replace it with nanorobotics it could do the same task with possibly higher precision. But at this stage of nanorobotics it seems we are still at an early stage, or that we can borrow the ideas from somewhere. What do you guys think and how much progress have we made on nanorobotics? P.S. You might be able to program and control the robotics wirelessly

Hello, just wondering about something I came across. Why does the pulse slow down quickly after physical exertion when breathing through your nose. My theory is along the lines of less oxygen per second so that the cardiovascular system conserves energy by slowing the pulse. Could anyone clarify, thank you in advance:).

  14. This is a discussion. We know from studies that sitting down for more than 5,6 hours a day can decrease life expectancy. A lot of that sitting down is at schools and universities (around 7 hours a day) which could do negatively for their future. Another point to consider is that some children are more active than others with some returning from school just go straight back to sitting down for homework. My question for you is: Do you think that we could increase life expectancy marginally or at all by getting children at schools to do more standing up during lessons (especially in double lessons) and to be more active during school time?. This would also go along with livi…

  16. I was wondering if there is any biological organism out there which does or can produce either hydrogen or deuterium. If so, which one? And if possible to answer, how? On that last one I wouldn't mind being directed to a place where I can be informed more extensively like a book or documentary if it's too much to explain in short, though a summary is preferable.

Hi, I am new to this site so bare with me. ha I need some much needed help, I am currently in a debate of sorts with a person and he sent me this, I would appreciate any info on how to answer it. I have a few idea's but looking for some guidance. I believe he is hinting at a god behind these things. But since science does not know all.. some cases we do, but saying god is behind it is an extraordinary claim that has no evidence to back it up. So Occams's Razor can come in and take over. But I would like to know about the subjects in question below are answered by science or rather points to science but not known as of yet. - Cheers Here it is: "thank you so much for the c…

  20. Northern quolls in the North Australia are learned to not eat toad by using specially prepared sausages causing vomit. http://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2015/sep/10/cane-toad-sausages-on-menu-in-attempt-to-save-kimberleys-northern-quolls Once they learn toads are not eatable, they spread this knowledge to their offspring. Such learning what is eatable, what is not eatable, or to avoid predators like cats or dogs, could be adopted to save other moribund wild species.

Hi there, I was wondering about the topic of mind palaces mainly seen in recent Sherlock Holmes films and TV series. From what I have heard some people can do something like this with memory where they take a piece of information and add it to a mental room like an office and imagine them adding the information to a file or draw. This is I believe is called the method of loci. What I don't understand is if this method developed by the Ancient Romans and Greeks can be used by anyone or only specific people that are born intelligent. Hope this makes sense, all comments welcome

  24. "scientifically " <--- sorry I would like to say hello to all of you. I am just a High school educated nobody who likes science. I am IN no way smart, I was just searching the internet for a place that I could post this thought / question and get some replies. I have always thought about , what if you could raise a human in as near perfect conditions for their entire life into adulthood including everything highly controlled during the birth to warrant the best baby possible ? No expense is too much and you get top scientists and doctors including Dermatologists. You raise them in a room that has the same filtration system as Intel has in their chip…
