I do not speak English but I'll try to do my best. In school I have to support or refute the following proposition: "There must be more students in science and maths if we want to prevent that the technological progress in the western world comes to a stop." What do you think about this? I hope it will be an interesting discussion with pro and contra arguments. Thanks!

Ok. I don't want anyone beating me up for this. But here something that i was thinking about. How know when u have cotton clothes. Lets say red in colour. Why is it when water is dropped onto it, it goes darker. Any colour in this case. Even though water is transparent. I have an idea, but I'm not giving it out. Just so that i don't influence any other ideas!!! Thanx

Is it frightening to anyone else how similar our world is to Farenheit 451? Not in all actual manifestations, but in mentality, we're goin down that road. What i think the problem is stupid people getting in power. Stupid people in media and buisness feeding us crap, as said in farenheit 451 : man not born equal, but made equal. Society is covered in so many freakin rules and unquestioned mentalities of stupidity, all these things are programming us not to be self thinking individuals. I think the concept of Farenheit 451 goes deeper when combined with the Matrix. I heard that matrix is a remake of some other movies about reality, i haven't seen them, so I chose the …

Sorry about the downtime last night. As a result, the server time was several hours ahead of the actual time. The time was just reset to the accurate time. Thus, all new posts will not show up at the end of the thread until the time is LATER than the last post in the thread. Everything should be correct as of 6pm eastern time tonight. Again, sorry about the inconvenience. We're working on a dedicated server right now.

It’s a small world” is such a casual saying, but ever thought what it actually means? The theory of “six degrees of separation" claims that any one of us can be linked to any one else on earth by a chain of six contacts on average. It’s a fascinating research area, especially when harnessing email and the Internet. I am hoping that the Scienceforum community could help me with a small experiment in this area, toward my university final project in web media design, the small-world-network , http://www.small-world-network.com . It’s short, confidential, won’t lead to spam (promise!), and will help further research in a field championed by Stanley Milgram and, more rec…

It is the rainy season in Singaopre now. This question crossed my mind as i was sitting on a bus. It was raining outside and i was looking out of the window. I realise that water droplets tends to stick on the glass surface. Instead of falling down and off the glass surface due to gravity, it did not. I find this really surprising. And after that, i read a book "The stuff of life" describing water and its properties and stuff. Two words caught my attention, "surface tension". I was wondering has it anything got to do with that. Need someone to enlighten me. Thanks.

Well, i'm feeling really tired. For consecutive days i've been sleeping rather later. I only tuck into bed at 1am. So, i always find myself very easily tired. Not only that i realised that my lips are very pale (grey in colour) and my eyelids are very light pink. My finger nails are also very light pink. I don't really know why. Is it possible to do with me not sleeping early? or my diet? Or what? Sometimes, i have some difficulty breathing... but it is not that serious. It is more like i'm not breathing enough oxygen.
