I was wondering since computers are images of human's, would it be possible to implant or upgrade human limit's like let's say a computer has an external harddrive would a human be able to have external a brain(s) that wirelessly connects to a storage house for mechanical brains or can there be implants so that human's would be able to achieve perfection or would virus's and bacteria just adapt to try and combat these new adjustments. I have heard alot from timothy leary and michio kaku that through the possibility of quantum computers, we would be able to make androids, but the through the same technology the same can be appiled towards making adjustments to the human bo…

Recently filmed with a programme whereby university science staff try to get involved with primary school education to inspire students as early as possible... seems to be an increasing trend in this part of the world. http://www.test-tube.org.uk/videos/pages_janice_school_visit.htm

  4. I thought I'd make a thread dedicated to linking to skeptical inquiry and/or debunking sites and books. You guys can add anything you want here that you find is good. Anyways, here's for starters: Quackwatch Skeptic's Dictionary Donald Simanek's Pages The Demon-Haunted World by Carl Sagan

Would this possibly work as an interesting primer video for say an educational purpose to stimulate say open dialogue in a class on the subject. In advance if the link does not work please let me know. Also its in a entertainment format but again I am asking about it in reference of a more social context also educationally.

I'm currently doing a biology experiment with earthworms, testing how they react to EM fields. My question is, what kind of EM field does a 6 volt battery give off with a closed circuit? And, how far does that EM field extend?

Im having a hard time deciding on a major . I really like building new innovative things in my garage ( im a certified welder/pipefitter ) . I have a interest in all science ( especially physics ) . I wanna be in a field of invention and creation . I'm not talking like creating a better q-tip , I mean building the impossible or creating something never thought of before . That is very appealing to me . I am kinda thinking either engineering or physics . If you guys could give me some ideas or advice i would appreciate it . Thanks , Watts

Hey guys and girls, I have to write a 1500 word essay on the following questions, Does Science consist of 'facts'? If so, what are these facts, and how can we be sure that they are 'true' or 'correct'? If not, what does science consist of? Can anyone offer any advice or any comments on this?

Is it? Currently Im majoring in Psychology with a minor in Sociology. I was thinking however, getting a major in Sociology as well would be beneficiary - although it may take an extra semester. (Currently Im a 1st semester Sophomore). Just wondering what you thought. I'll probably go through with it, but as far as grad school is concerned, will it help a lot? for example, if it was between me and someone else, and it looked like this: Kid - Major in Psych, minor in Soc. 3.8gpa. Me: Major in Psych and Soc. 3.2gpa Still think they would take me over the other guy (even though he has a higher gpa)? thanks

Hello I came across a secondary school physics teacher recently who said that he explicitely teaches his pupils that gravity is not a force. His reason for this is that gravity is the field and weight is the name given to the force of gravity. This is giving me quite a headache for the following reasons: Pros of teacher's argument: 1) He's right, as in nothing he said was factually incorrect. 2) Looking at the big picture, its kind of good that the teacher had a deeper knowledge of the subject than most science teachers. Cons of teacher's argument: 1) He's just trying to be a smart-rse. I have a physics degree and no-one from my school teachers right up t…

Help I clearly shouldnt be doing a degree in forensics if I cant do this!! A suspect in a shooting incident had his hands swabbed with 5% nitric acid. The swabs were then extracted into 20 cm3 of nitric acid. A portion of the sample solution was analysed by atomic emission spectroscopy and a response of 125 mV obtained. Next a 0.100 cm3 of a standard solution containing 40 µg of lead per cm3 was added to 10 cm 3 of the sample solution and the analysis repeated. A response of 157 mV was obtained from the "spiked" sample. Calculate the amount of lead recovered by the swabs in µg.

I'm currently volunteering at a local backwood elementary school, where i work with 5th grade elementary students and teach them hands-on biology, chemistry, and earth-science. Nothing too complex, i think the most confusing thing i've taught them is oxidation/reduction pathways. We like doing hands-on experiments, fun things that teach them something while they have fun and spark their brain (hopefully) into thinking scientifically. We just finished studying the human body, and are now studying noncyclic photosynthesis. Does anyone have any ideas for simple science "experiments" (not actual experiments but demonstrations i could do; they think they are experiments)? we h…

I'm starting college in three months. I've declared my major as Electrical Engineering at the moment. I work with computers, I enjoy that work, however, I don't want a career focusing on computers. Electrical Engineering seemed fun due to the technical aspect of it. I've always had an interest in physics and an even greater interest in the cosmos. If I switched majors to physics and wanted to get into something like astrophysics, what career opportunities would I have? Is the salary generally pretty good in this field? It's may seem a bit over confident, but I am planning on pursuing whatever field I chose to a Ph.D. What kind of work would I be doing with a Bachelors whi…

  21. I know this guy who is currently in his 6th year at university as an undergraduate doing his bachelors in engineering. His program is surposed to be 4 years long. He has extremely low grades, with an extremely low borderline fail (literally) GPA (GPA = 2.0 or 50+%), and his academic record is also full of failed courses with courses in the 0 GPA range (20+%), with additonally certain failed courses almost every year. I have a hard time imaging him being able to find a job because most employers look at transcripts when you go straight out of university, especially so for technical engineering jobs. It is also quite impossible to talk yourself out of the fact that you…

Hey Guys, My name is Tara, and I am new to these forums. I have really been having alot of trouble deciding exactly what I want to major in. I really love any sort of Biological science, but I also have such a passion for the environment. Originally, my major was going to be a Master's in Environmental Science, however, I have really been reconsidering. It is a very big decision and I want to make sure I choose properly. Any suggestions? or opinions? I just wanted some feedback from some environmentalists and some biologists. Thank you! --Tara Schumacher

I'm having trouble thinking of a project our class could submit for our physics project. It could be something that can be used in lab activities for kinematics and dynamics. i think our teacher expects lab materials or equipments. however, i think they already have almost everything (i guess). to be quite original, i was thinking of submitting a lab procedure for a certain activity. but i still have to ask her about that. about the lab equipments, maybe you have something in mind;)

I've got an assignment to do for chemistry, and it's the history of the periodic table, and I've got quite far on it, but I'm stuck on the similarities and differences. For similarities I have that they're separated into rows and columns, and are arranged by atomic weight, and for differences I have that the original table didnt have groups or periods, the lanthanoid and actinoid series werent there, and that the elements werent categorised so specifically. But now i'm stuck So I was just wondering if anyone could give me a hand with the similarites and differences, because I really can't think of any more . Thanks.
